My suggestion entails creating a system utilizing "@username" that when placed in a message would alert or notify that user somewhere that they have been hailed, referenced or asked for. Perhaps a panel could be added to either the main page, the users profile, or even a separate page altogether. It would have scrollable list of sorts with the messages where your name was referenced. The user can then navigate directly to that post so they can reply.
Some measures would have to be created however to avoid abuse, maybe x amount of tags in y amount of time to avoid spam, and only z tags can be done at once, though the tags cannot be for the same individual.
