In all seriousness, I thought Heimerdinger saw some success as a top laner?

Eeeh.. I don't know, I've played this game maybe... 3500 times now? Have never encountered one while playing top (which I play often since it's my main role), have never seen one while playing any other role either.

I can't say it doesn't work (since I have no interest in playing it myself and have - as I said - never seen anyone else play it), but in my eyes he's not a top laner. Simple as that :P

You see him in low elo, as opposed to high elo.
As for him in top lane, I cant imagine what his purpose would possibly be considering hes far worse than most other ranged top laners (not counting adcs).
As for Shyvana I think he'd actually be pretty bad against her, simply because her burnout can destroy any turrets he puts down and farm at the same time until he runs out of mana.

Basically MOBAFire.

From experience alone, I'd have to say, in order, Teemo, Olaf, Dr. Mundo, Renekton, Riven, Jax. Each in their own way. Some are straight-up counters, others scale well and can go even (or better) in lane.

The Wukong pick makes sense. He can be safe with poking with Goku's cloud+Q+monkey-business-jukes. And he can counter her engage in teamfights as well.

Also, she's lost my must-ban status for Vi. Her nerfs haven't weakened her enough, but I've been getting the vibe that people are learning to pick/play better against her.

Completely irrelevant, but I just wanted to say that the origin of the cloud-pole-monkey-business-jukes did not begin with Goku, but the Eastern legend of Sun Wukong (who Goku is inspired from also). Which, not so oddly enough, is where the whole idea for Wukong comes from.

On-topic, it seems you need someone with just as much aggression and coupled with a strong wave-clear/pushing power as Shyvana does. In other words, alternatives to Shyvana are probably your best choice.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but i think man dinh warwick does alright against shyvana. WW can't push well, and his damage isn't anything special, but he'll definitely be able to outsustain shyvana, and also set up ganks really well - especially after level 6

His wave clear is nonexistant and that's probably going to be a huge issue.

This is the same problem with Nidalee top (I know you hate Nid top, GD). I ended up getting stuck as Nidalee top against a shyvana, and this is essentially what I did. I poked with auto's and killed the front line of minions while she farmed. i would occasionally unleash a q or forcer her into a bushwacker. I did almost nothing in lane. I would poke until she would retreat than would clear to her turret hit the turret hard. Then leave and gank mid - B - get items - Void Staff was my first item after tear then Morello into boots. I went 1/1/1 with her in lane. She went 1/2/0 My jungler ganked about normally to push her back. I would push the lane out and then leave with him to go get blue or get opposing red, gank mid, return to top and continue on.

While I could not kill her without help, nor could I really prevent her from farming. I did enough damage to her during laning phase as was able to adequately farm and assist my team while keeping her from snowballing. She only outfarmed me by about 40 minions. However, because I was able to assist other lanes while she was busy pushing lanes or being wary of my Spear (I would hide in the bushes and Poke her to setup when I would leave lane to assist others. By the end of the game she was unable to prevent me from snowballing on her carries and we won.

Winning lane is not just about being able to dominate your opposing lane partner it's about how much presence you put on the game as a whole that is a positive. She couldn't get kills she couldn't get my turret for 20 minutes, and she had no impact on any other lane. I had a presence at mid and jungle, and was able to get her turret at 15 minutes with the jungler's help. This is how you handle Shyvana/Renek/Mundo if you are playing a more assassin type champ top lane.

I had wondered about Warwick as a few Pros had played WW into either Shyvana or Dr. Mundo, but then again, they are Pros, so maybe it's just because they are so much better mechanically.

The thing with Warwick into Shyvana, is that you end up having to tank a whole wave to a part wave of minions just before the front of the tower if you want to get ANY sort of farm. Its terrible for you early on, but post 6 your sustain should be strong enough to be able to do it. Just expect Shyv to wail on you with her abilities as well.
