Tosh, I was seriously asking. If you enjoy something enough to dedicate 4 years worth of time your skill level should increase over that time. I'm sorry but you're 100% wrong and you shouldn't call people out for asking serious questions. Even playing this game casually given enough time you'd expect increases in game knowledge and mechanical skill which are the two biggest factors in determining how 'good' someone is at LoL.

If in 4 years your game hasn't seen marked improvement it means that you are experiencing problems with how you process information as it pertains to the game. With 4 years of experience you should have learned what works in a given situation: can I all in this Renekton as Shyvana right now or will I lose the fight...etc.

As far as mechanical skill goes once again no matter how casually you play that should just come with time spent playing the game. When I flash do I stop moving? Wow that isn't good it should be movement>flash>movement not movement>stop>flash>stop>movement. So you realize early on that you need flash to be fluid and although you mess it up a few times when you're new to the game you eventually get the hang of it. If your mechanics aren't improving it means you literally have given them NO thought.

Just my two cents. No Tldr read what I ******* wrote.

tl;dr

But on a more serious note, you're wrong. You're confusing leisure for serious competitive use. Let's take the topic away from video games for just a second so you can comprehend this scenario a bit better;

Jimmy Gibs likes this idea of bowling. Jimmy Gibs bowls somewhat frequently since the company he works for offers free bowling alley access. Jimmy Gibs has never bowled before, so he decides to give bowling a shot. Jimmy Gibs sucks at bowling. He sucks so bad that he can only muscle a mere 60 points per game. It didn't bother him because he simply enjoyed bowling. Over time, he picked up a trick or two and was able to bowl an average o 90 per game on his second year in. His third year in, he finally made it up to 120. This isn't significant, but to him, improvements happened slow and steady. He never bothered to try to read any guides or to watch any of the other bowlers bowl. Heck, he tried a league or two once just for fun, but was scared to participate since he wasn't up to par with the rest of the competition. That forced him to slunk back into his casual setting. Well, from time to time he did start to watch a bowler or two, and when he did, he learned a few tricks that improved his game. Finally, he decided in his fourth year that he wanted to get serious about bowling (Primarily because his boss is an ******** and he wants to quit to become a professional bowling player). So he decides to go the extra mile this time around and join a bowling group to get some tips on how to improve his game, and probably find a mentor or two to help him improve his technique.

But unfortunately, he was met with "LOL! BOWLING FOR 4 YEARS AND YOU CAN ONLY BOWL 120? LAWWWWLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!".

Case in point. I was the same way with CS. I was the same way with pokemon even and I played pokemon religiously as well as CS. But the thing was, I played it for fun and as something to pass the time with my friend's. I learned a thing or two along the way (EV training, IV training, Sniper Positions, HOW TO ****ING AIM IN CS LOL), but honestly, I was still a lower end player because I never really made an effort to try to understand the game better or the advanced tactics that separate the decent from the pro. I just played public servers with random people who were either worse than me, just as bad as me or an ******** pro player who would shove his **** up our ***es for funsies. I wanted to win, yes, but at the same time, it was just a game to me. I'd try rated matches and win some lose some, but I never made that much of an effort to try to get better. I just cruised through the games, had my fun and called it a night.

Continuing on with your post,

that's a ****ty example with flash. You're making him out to be a ****** with that example, when all I think is OP's problem is probably more technical stuff, like timers, ward locations, counter-picks ect. That's **** I picked up when I got serious about LoL. Before that, I just cruised on from game to game with literally a 50/50 win to lose ratio.

My two cents is that you've got no grasp on casual vs dedication. OP admits that he ignored fundamentals and wasn't serious about the game as much as he should be. I suggest that you honestly give this a bit more thought before you open up your mouth and say something ignorant.

Again.

And what the **** is the point on saying "You've been playing for 4 years and haven't improved!?". Like, why are you telling him things he said? I mean,... he's the one that said them.... And you're pretending like there isn't a ****load of players UNRANKED. Meaning that that's probably a ****load of people who don't dedicate a lot of time into learning LoL and just cruise control through it like any other game. Like how I did with pokemon and CS. At least this guy made it to bronze. That isn't much, but it sure is better than unranked. And the thing is, this guy wants to get better. Like, he pointed out how ****ty of a player he is after these 4 years of cruising along. He wants to change. Why are you going to sit there and post stupid **** like what you just did? That's not helping. At all.

Just.

Wow. Videogame egos. It's legit.

Now, this guy is asking for help. Like, he's legitimately putting himself out there to ask "Guys, I suck and I really need your help". How about you be a good little boy and share a point or two on how to improve, rather then being a condescending ****? Can you do that for your dear old Uncle Toshabi?

I'm still trying to figure out where exactly it says he hasn't improved.
If someone is in Bronze 4 years ago, and is in Bronze now, then clearly its reasonable to think the people in BRONZE have improved at the same rate as he has, instead of assuming that he's ******ed. Also there's the fact that not everyone learns skill at the same rate as other people, and that some people are clearly stuck in silver after playing for 4 years, and the fact that you could be being patronising.
But w/e.

Basically MOBAFire.

I could say to my classmates with bad grades 'you've studied XYZ course for years how do you still not understand the syllabus?'

Hell to make it more relevant to League I've played since S1, some of the people I know irl have played before me since the beta and are currently Bronze/Silver. Some things just don't come naturally to people, whether it's instinctual or learned.

Not saying I haven't been guilty in the past for saying **** like, "HOW do you just not GET IT???!!!" but it doesn't make them a freak of nature because their mindset isn't as competitively oriented as mine.

Anyways more relevantly good luck with your climb ^ ^ Keep faith

The difference being: This is a videogame. You idiots are taking this too seriously. If a person hasn't improved in skill (much) in a videogame, who cares? It's a hobby. This isn't the same as with classwork. And much like any other hobby, some people plateau at a point because said hobby isn't a necessity in life. There isn't an urgency or need to improve. Mommy and Daddy won't get a phone call from Riot saying "You're son is still in bronze ELO >:T". And fact of the matter is, that's how any hobby works. If everyone improved just by doing their hobby all these years, we'd see a lot more professionals out there.

There has to be a need/want to improve that's followed by dedication and proper follow up. This is the time when OP legitimately wants to get better. Why you can't grasp such a simple concept is beyond me.

I thank you all for your feedback and found it very insightful. To those who asked "how can you play for 4 years and not improve?" It is a valid question. But do take time to read my full post at the beginning. I have improved a lot in the four years I have played. My gameplay in all lanes with multiple champions have improved by leaps and bounds. Now you are probably asking why I am still in bronze if I say I have improved so much. Well that is entirely my fault.

When I first started ranked and lost horribly, I placed myself in bronze. Mind you that was season 2. In season 3 I placed in bronze again and stopped 23 games in. I didn't continue with ranked to try to improve. I had a tendency to get discouraged easily back then and gave up. Now I have put those feelings of discouragement behind me. I dont take other players (ie: trolls) as serious as I used to and I go into every game giving it my all, only focusing on how to help my team improve as the game progresses.

I do enjoy watching a lot of diamond and challenger tier matches when I can. But I will be sure to check out some of the twitch channels mentioned in the previous comments. Again, thanks for your support and I will keep updating in the forums as I progress.

And Lasty, its ok. I understand what you're saying and completely agree. No need for people to get all in an uproar. I knew what I was getting myself in when opening this thread.

And Toshabi made good points as well. Lets keep this thread as close to nontoxic and possible. Thank guys.

I don't have much imagination to come up with a vivid example like Toshabi's, so I will just stick with logic instead. The point is that after you grow toward a job/hobby, you and the job/hobby have to grow together or else you will lose the attraction and give up on it. YOU DO IMPROVE, despite how marginal and in category that nobody sees, you do improve.

You always get so worked up about very little, he (C4 lasty) just asked an honest question and I quoted his comment since I was literally about to ask the exact same thing until I saw he'd already asked it. Chill the **** out, its a pretty understandable question to ask.

A +rep is always nice, and if I helped you out, do give one (or more) of my guides a read! Feedback is very welcome, and if you liked them give them a vote!

The topic was requested to be dropped by the OP.

Regardless, I call out stupid comments. Get used to it. If you have further issues with why I called you all out, feel free to PM me. Otherwise, refrain from continuing this discussion on this person's ranked thread. Further comments regarding the previous topic posted on this thread (not made by the OP) will be ignored by me.
