The grandma arc was definitely nice but it could have been done in one single episode without creating a character to directly dispose of afterwards in my opinion. More small things like that

If those are what you refer to as filler then I wouldn't mind more of that, because the grandma arc was great.

Quoted:
I think the story progression is too small. I'm still enjoying it but it feels like they made a good story with a list of important elements and started to write arcs as big as possible to contain one such a single element. With shounens and stuff like that I don't think that matters, because the main attraction of those genres isn't providing a story to think about. But Koe no Katachi lives of its story progression and how that story keeps the reader on the edge. There are no action scenes, no jokes and whatnot contained in other genres.

They established a great start with the history arc. Then a very good meeting arc. Bridge arc was definitely needed too. The rest of the arcs felt like introducing new characters just to lengthen the plot to me. There's a conclusion hanging above the story like Damocles' sword(they kill each-other, kill themselves or the reconcile) and the story never moves towards it. It only tries to add to the feelings of the reader while I think the goal is to ride on those feelings, not try to keep them as long as possible.

I said it earlier, but I think this kind of story shouldn't have a long duration or it will die out. Unless I got the totally wrong impression and this is supposed to be a soap.

Well, I definitely see your point, but I disagree, I don't think the story progression is too small so far. I was more worried before, when they started to steer off the main storyline, but when I saw how well it was handled and interconnected with the main storyline I stopped worrying.

Currently watching Psycho-Pass.

I'm at episode 6, so far so good. Pretty nice animation, the characters are okay, especially Tsunemori Akane, she's a pleasure to watch.

I'm a bit bothered by the plot. So far it feels like every episode doesn't depend on the other. Hope it changes soon.

Finish it as soon as you can and pay attention to everything that is said. The plot comes together nicely.

I just finished Psycho Pass. I'm impressed.

At first I thought it would be a generic crime investigated - case solved all in one episode, with no particular plot or character development. I've never been so wrong.

The plot was amazing, it had a tiny bit of Ergo proxy's touch. The ending was great, it was a bit bittersweet imo.

Character development is the best thing about this anime though. Especially Tsunemori Akane, she was done insanely well, from the rookie who blindly followed the Sibyl system to the cold eyed professional inspector.

Can't wait for next season.

Shakugan no Shana

I tried watching Shakugan no Shana but just couldn't get all the way through it. Somewhere an episode or two into the flashbacks I just stopped caring and have never gotten around to coming back. It doesn't help that, at the time, I was looking for things in a more romcom vein.

Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai takes place in a different setting, with magic and early industrialization combined(think steam engines and machines powered by magic). Some more magical girls.
Kaze no Stigma takes place in a modern world but has magic based on elements(fire, wind, earth...)
Darker than Black has some elements.

I never finished Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai, either. I didn't feel like its magic system was particularly strong, in that it was using magic that basically did whatever the plot needed it to at the time and there wasn't any clear restriction on what kinds of things magic can/cannot do and how hard those things are. So it felt like, after a while, that the fights tended to boil down to who has the largest "power level" without ever really going into what that even means. Also, I just couldn't bring myself to care about the plot much.

Kaze no Stigma's okay, but overall not very good. It's about elemental magics, but once again we've got a protagonist who just gets to be stronger than everyone else and beats them up because he's strong and stuff. The anime was just fairly weak once all is said and done. You could watch it if you want, but don't expect terribly much.

Darker than Black's great. Totally watch it. It's got a much better idea of how to create interesting powers and tell an interesting story with them than most anime. One thing that works very well in its favor is a much lower power scale than many other anime, so that they don't get bogged down with awesome all-the-things-are-exploding visual effects and instead concentrate on what people are actually doing during action sequences. Also, it's not a story about growing and overcoming obstacles, so it avoids a lot of the stereotypical-shounen vibe. Go watch it.

Finished Log Horizon. SAO and LH are both great in my opinion, but I liked SAO's art better. I don't know who I'm quoting, but I read something like "SAO is for MMO lovers and LH is for anime lovers" and I think that sums it up nicely. SAO goes a bit more into sci-fi too, which I can appreciate. But LH's story is great too. I'll follow both series when their season 2s come out.

SAO straight up has better art than Log Horizon. I don't even think this is controversial. Log Horizon's clearly pretty cheap, production-wise. Still, its main strength is that it actually sits down and thinks a lot harder than most other stuck-in-an-MMO anime do about what being stuck in an MMO would actually mean. So even though it's got some plot holes and doesn't do pacing well and has very low-budget art and isn't very good at plot focus, it's still a breath of fresh air. All the other stuck-in-an-MMO anime I've seen are using being stuck in an MMO as a vehicle to tell more standard anime stories, like SAO being a shounen power fantasy. I was really surprised at just how fast LH jumped out at me as being something I really enjoyed. Good character design, immediately likable characters, and well-timed humor probably helped a lot with that, which gave the anime time to let me know that it was going to deal with politics and logistics and stuff.

About this season, I've now realized that a few shows are pretty bad. Seikoku no Dragnar is pretty bad. It's forgotten to show vital events about how people get places or find out things a couple of times, and the fanservice is hilariously over the top. Oh, it also just kinda' springs major plot elements out of nowhere, waiting until they become relevant to ever bring them up. Overall, it's a super safe skip.

And Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara is even worse. It's clearly some kind of harem show, but it's really bad at believable character interaction, reducing most of its characters to just repeat gags after their initial screen time. And it's also got some romance-game nonsense going on with the flags (FYI, this is NOT a healthy way to think of other people). And it's also maybe a fantasy show? It's being pulled in so many directions at once that it doesn't have enough time to do anything well, so it doesn't do anything well. Oh, and a few of these silly additions are recent developments, so as the show goes on it might get even more bloated and therefore worse. I'd highly suggest skipping it unless you enjoy incompetent harem anime.

I've also been watching Makakucity Actors and I'm not sure what to think. It's taken it three episodes to get through opening events and character introduction, so it might be in a position to start having a plot soon. So I can't really say much about it, because nothing important has happened yet. There isn't any real conflict yet. And, as a result, there isn't a real reason to watch the show yet. The art is done by the same studio that did Bakemonogatari (etc.), so it's kinda' interestingly weird. I'm not sure that the style is something I really want to see that much more of, though.

About Makakucity Actors, since it is pretty dialogue heavy like alot of other SHAFT animes, it was rather easy to follow than the manga/Ln. that's already a plus lol

Well, you might like it as a lot of other people do, but I think it's meh. It really isn't anything special in my opinion. I've read series far, far superior to it.
Note: I'm writing about the manga, but I doubt the anime is any better.
I got about 100chapters into the manga.

Hue, it's probably my top 1 anime of all time along with shinsekai yori, which you should check out if you haven't yet. You could argue that Psycho Pass is a tiny bit better, but I'm sure that if you enjoyed one, you'll love the other just as much.
