blizzard has become the copycat company. literally anything that 'makes money' blizzard tries to copy now.

blzzard has never been original, they generally take genre's and make them more enjoyable. Do you think WoW was the first mmo? absolutely not, they took aspects of other mmo's and improved it.

Blizzard makes good games, generally better than any competitor out there, that's why their successful, not because they're some groundbreaking and innovative company.

But wouldn't improving on a genre be considered innovative? If they're making current genres better and more fun, then clearly they're doing something different to innovate within the genre.

Oh, holy ****, I just found out that Duncan Jones will be directing the Warcraft movie.
He doesn't have a lot of movies under his belt, but I'm a huge fan of Moon. It was a fantastic movie. And Source Code is rated well (haven't seen it yet).

Also, he looks kind of like a wookie. That's always a plus.

Oooooooooo. Maybe his films will finally get the recognition they deserve with such a big name franchise under his belt. Moon and Source Code seriously deserved more attention :/

Ya probably, my point is saying that it's a TF2 copy or that Blizzard just rips off other popular titles now-a-days isn't entirely fair.

It's not like Warcraft/Starcraft and World of Warcraft were the first RPG's or MMO's ever released. Blizzard is innovative in the sense that they take other genre's and improve them.

^ Agreed. The customer doesn't (shouldn't) care about what's original, it cares about quality. I used to play hours of TF2 every day (before the store and all that), but if I like Overwatch better I'll play it.

I'm actually pretty excited for this, I haven't been able to get into TF2 like I used to so I hope Overwatch can bring this oddly casual shooter-like experience to a new level, or just give it a fresh look.

Though I don't think this will be a lot like TF2. First of all there are too many classes. The learning curve will be high, and it'll take a lot of playtime to understand and know all the abilities in the game. I don't think it'll be as casual as TF2, but more like CSGO matches, you can't leave until the game is over. I also don't think the game will contain the same level of humor and potential for funny WTF moments (like seeing your blown-up body with a random arrow indicating where your lungs are when you die). I wonder if the game will be as moddable as TF2.

I just hope the game will be a single-payment pay-to-play game. I know this sounds super salty but TF2 changed so bloody much when it became free-to-play. If they make it like this I think they'll be able to get a decent share of former TF2 players for free.

i disagree, customer should care about originality, to an extent. i'm not saying everything has to be 100% original but if people truly didnt care about originality there would be so many carbon copies of damn near everything littering the market.

Let's not lose sight of what a company aims to do.

A company doesn't aim to be different. A company aims to make money.

In order for someone's game to be recognised, there are two main ways in which they can get their game to be noticed so they can roll in the cash. One is to make a game that is perceived to be at the top of its genre by many. The other is to make a game that's different or unfamiliar to any experience we have.

We already have games that are very similar on the market. Look at all the MOBAs coming out. But a lot of them aren't thriving due to how congested the market is, which is why we are still seeing many games in different genres. They offer something different from the norm, so if someone is looking for something different, then the company will make profit off these people.

That's why I think your assumption regarding the same game on the market isn't entirely correct, nor is it entirely wrong. It isn't the originality per say, it's just what consumers want. Not all consumers want originality, but if a genre becomes saturated, then they will. People will still flock to Battlefield and CoD for FPS, and LoL and DotA2 for MOBAs because they're the 'top' of their genre, not because they're new.

I don't think companies want to make original games for the sake of originality, nor do viewers want to play games for the sake of originality. They want to make something that will bring in money and something that is fun respectively.
