So I've been subscribed to MrRepzion for a while, but when I saw the video below (a response to a video based on this article from what I can tell) I was actually incredibly disappointed because he seemingly spent half an hour denying that anything on the list was a problem when he has, in some instances, little to no experience with these things besides how a particular female gamer he knows has been treated.

While I think the general tone of the original video was very overdone, but in some cases the original points are actually very true. I'd like to hear the opinions of other male gamers on the topic though though, because I can complain about being discriminated against as a female gamer all I want but that won't get me anywhere.

my opinion on the original points presented (as a female gamer):

can't watch the video on this ****ty internet but I can say pretty easily that as a male gamer I don't have to worry about someone using my sex as an insult towards me, ignoring me based on my sex, dismissing my opinion based on sex, etc

From what I've seen of her videos Anita is usually pretty bang on too.

that guy is cute so I'll search up that address of his parents and then ask them for his home address

but seriously I think most of these points they made (the list) are basically made by people who don't really play multiplayers often and are some old people who don't know anything about gaming of today

That article is the most ridiculous thing I've read in a long time; it lists countless things that have nothing to do with gaming industry and communities specifically but rather with the current status of western culture. I'm also appalled that the writer has the audacity to make claims – himself being a critic – without any real proof, reliable sources, or studies; it's all just a bunch of stuff probably based on real-life experiences from women he is acquainted with.

The writer seems to have a very poor understanding of the market, western culture, and human behaviour in response to minorities as a whole. First of all, most of the video games are catered towards an audience that primarily consists of male teenagers simply because those are the people who are most likely to buy it. Secondly, western culture has a very strict point of view on gender roles which causes the (fe)male behaviour we see today. The fact that some men think women are terrible at video games because they happen to have a uterus, well, that has nothing to do with games themselves. However, we musn't forget that this exists for a reason; generally speaking, more men than women are actually interested in video games and everything that surrounds them. Though, more on that in a moment. Thirdly, I'd like to address the fact that the writer seems to be clueless about how people act regarding minorities. If someone fits the category of a minority, then they're special, and because they are, people look at them differently. This is something that happens all the time, and some people use this to their advantage: Female gamers who also do blogs or something along those lines can use the fact that they are a female gamer to their advantage because they are a minority – I've even seen black people use the fact that they're black to their advantage in totally unrelated situations. The writer seems to think that it is a male privilege to not get views based solely on your gender, but I'm not entirely sure on that. The fact that I'm a Caucasian male from north-west Europe is not something I can use to get a blog/website/stream going.

As long as the majority of the consumers regarding video games is male, video game developers will focus on that majority and cater their design towards that. Throughout the years we've seen some obvious changes though; most video games got the option of a female playable character such as Pokémon; not all games cater towards a male audience; female protagonists, deuteragonists, and tritagonists are far more prevalent; etcetera. The video game industry, especially the designers, are more catering towards a female audience these days; games such as League of Legends, Hearthstone, and the Dragon Age series are some solid examples of this. Now, I'm not arguing that sexism isn't present, or that certain tropes regarding female characters in games aren't there, but this article is very skewed, misleading, and overall poorly written. The author doesn't focus on the real issues and definitely isn't capable of choosing a real subject: Being a Woman in a Male-Dominant World or Female Representation in Video Games.

P.S. I've had my fair share of harassment as well, so I know that's a real issue but that has nothing to do with video games as a whole, but rather with human behaviour, stereotypes, and gender roles in the western culture.

"Privileged" male here:

Call me an oblivious supressor of women, and while I can't find myself to even like the voice of that Repzion dude (not the type of podcaster I like to listen to), but he is absolutely right to discredit this polygon article:

Feminazis trying to extend their reach.
Or at least ******** people come up with to rake in some attention.

Not wanting to slash at the female gamer community at a whole, but if some of them really think this is an issue, only this comes to mind:

1) Put all the harassment you get in relation to all the benefits you are granted without a slither of effort.

2) Most of the harassment, like alread mentioned, is done to you by underaged male teenager (biologically or mentally)!
Not blaming them for everything, but from that EXACTLY group of people comes the biggest part of the toxic community, not only for online gaming, but for the whole Internet!

They pick on you for no apparent reason, being disrespectful, following no logic and insulting everything left and right even while being completely in the wrong.

And because they pick on you for that trait you have (being female), you're special?
I'm german for example, so I have to listen to that Nazi **** since forever, how special do you think I am ? (And yeah: I realize the irony of calling them feminazis)

You got some problems? Show 'em and be done with it.
