[9.8] Kalista Guide by misterfirstbloodBy misterfirstblood
Even though Kalista is one of the hardest AD Carries to handle, it was one of my best Champions last season. My Winrate was around 70%. I wanna tell you my experiences with Kalista and give you some tips.
It makes me happy to see her finding her way back into the game.
+ It's extremely rewarding to be a mechanically better player than your enemies.
+ Shines in Teamfights.
+ Very nice powerspikes.
- You are dependent on your support.
- Very long ult cooldown.
- You might need a little bit peel against some teams.
- Hard to master.
- In a 1v1/when your support dies you just have 2 abilities
TARGET RANGE: 250 / 300 / 350
Martial Poise: Kalista's basic attacks deal 90% AD physical damage, miss if she loses sight of her target before they hit, and cannot cancel their wind-up except by selecting a new target within range, but dashes in the target direction after issuing a movement command during a wind-up or right after casting Pierce.
The wind-up while dashing is only reduced by 0.66% per 1% bonus attack speed compared to the standard 1% per 1%. Additionally, Kalista begins the game with The Black Spear, a unique item.
Active - Oathsworn Bond: Kalista hurls The Black Spear at the target allied champion, beginning a short ritual during which both Kalista and her target are unable to perform any actions and her target performs their death animation. Upon finishing the ritual, the target becomes Oathsworn to her and can rebind to a different ally before 5 minutes.
"The oath has been taken."
TARGET RANGE: 1150 SPEED: 2100 COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Mana COOLDOWN: 8
Active: Kalista hurls a fast and narrow spear, dealing physical damage to the first enemy hit.
10 / 70 / 130 / 190 / 250 (+ 100% AD)
If Pierce kills its target, the spear continues onward, transferring all of the dead victim's Rend stacks to the next enemy it hits. This can repeat indefinitely until the spear reaches its maximum distance.
COST: 20 Mana COOLDOWN: 30 Recharge Time: 90 / 80 / 70 / 60 / 50
Passive - Soul-Marked: While Kalista and her Oathsworn are near each other, she gains 10 - 27 (based on level)% bonus attack speed. Additionally, their basic attacks apply Soul-Mark to their targets.
If both apply Soul-Mark within 2 seconds of each other, the target takes bonus magic damage, capped against non-champions, and cannot be Soul-Marked for 10 seconds. Soul-Mark executes minions below 125 health.
Bonus Magic Damage:
5 / 7.5 / 10 / 12.5 / 15% of target's maximum health
Kalista stores a charge of Sentinel periodically, up to a maximum of 2 stored at once.
Active: Kalista summons a Sentinel by her side to scout the target area.
COST: 30 Mana COOLDOWN: 14 / 12.5 / 11 / 9.5 / 8
Passive: Kalista's basic attacks and Pierce each lodge a spear in her target for up to 4 seconds, stacking up to 254 times.
Active: Kalista rips all lodged spears from nearby enemies, dealing physical damage and slowing them for 2 seconds, with spears beyond the first dealing reduced damage.
20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 (+ 60% AD)
25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45%
Rend resets its cooldown and refunds 30 mana if it kills at least one target.
R: Fate's Call
TARGET RANGE: 1200 EFFECT RADIUS: 1100 COST: 100 mana COOLDOWN: 150 / 120 / 90
Active: Kalista draws her Oathsworn ally next to her, placing them in stasis for 4 seconds.
During Fate's Call, Kalista's Oathsworn can click on the target location to launch there, stopping at the first enemy hit, knocking up all surrounding enemies and landing themselves at their basic attack range relative to the target hit.

"They shall not have you."
I personally like to stack a lot of life steal later in the game and get Scimitar/Bloodthirster. But sometimes depending on team (soraka for example) im going to buy more damage with rageblade, phantomdancer or infinity edge. (As long as you don't rush it before runaans)
Buy Last Whisper or Guardian angel only if you really need it.
Its trendy not to use fleet footwork as standard rune in the current meta so why nor push Kalistas Damage also? Increasing the damage of your main damage source (E) sounds very legit then.
Because blade of the ruined king is one of your core items Overheal fits very well to kalista. Alacrity + Coupe de grace will finish your runes in precision tree up.
In second tree I recommend you to go in Inspiration Tree. Cookies and free boots will give you Powerspikes earlier and increase your impact to carry your Midgame.
-Stack some spears into a cannon minion and try to kill it with Q. If your Q scores a kill, the spear will continue onward, passing all E stacks from the dead victim to the next enemy it hits. Gives you a good chance to engage / slow or deal a lot of damage.
- Short trades are fine as long as you can heal up and your enemies don't. Just trigger your W passive and hit 1-2 spears and disengage and heal up again. You don't always have to all in.
- After getting runaans you have a very strong pushing/waveclear power because every single auto attack could probably place 3 spears instead of 1 and 1 kill is enough to reset your E's Cooldown.
