1. Introduction

Basically Ezreal is a magic caster. This is the reason why most guides will focus on AP. But Ezreal can also be played as AD Ezreal. This build will be presented in this guide. The secret behind this is his skill Mystic Shot which scales with AD, has a low cooldown and low mana costs. Along with your auto-attack, lifesteal and his ulti, Ezreal is able to do lot of damage and can kill even DPS champs like twitch or teemo in an 1vs1.

3. Summoner Spells

Heal is just a suggestion. If you prefer Ignite then feel free to use it instead.

The reason why I use Heal is the following:

If you got stunned or were chased by fast champs like Yi or Warwick it can save your life by survive till your flash ability or arcane shift is ready again. It's also helpful in mid-laning or against DoT-spells like Morde's ulti, ignite or poison.

Flash is a must have in my opinion. Flash + arcane shift can save your life most of the times. You can also use it to chase squishy champs or get into battle from behind a wall.

4. Masteries

I go for 21/0/9 to increase the damage output. Magic pen, armor pen, dmg and crit dmg in offense tree. Experience, hp/mana reg and neutral buff duration in utility tree. If you go for Heal as summoner spell you can also go for 21/9/0 with heal improvement, magic-res and armor (and maybe dodge). I like the utility tree because of the longer duration of golem and lizzard buff and the exp boost. But feel free to adjust your masteries to your own liking. For example you should get the exhaust improvement if you choose this summoner spell and so on.

5. Skills

Rising Spell Force (Passive)

Hitting a target with any of Ezreal's abilities increases his attack speed by 15% for 6 seconds (Max Stacks: 5).

The passive is really great for AD Ezreal. You will spam Mystic Shot and get the 5 stacks almost everytime. This means +75% attack speed! If you use Essence Flux or your ultimate to hit more than one champ (Essence Flux works also on allies!) you will get a stack for each of them. This ability is the reason why you won't need a lot of attack speed items.

Mystic Shot

Ezreal fires a bolt of energy dealing 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 plus 110% of his attack damage as physical damage (applies on-hit effects).

Ezreal's cooldowns are reduced by 1 second if Mystic Shot hits a target.

This is our main spell in this build. Its damage scales with physical attack damage instead of ability power. It has low cooldown and mana cost and applies normal hit effects like Sheen's passive (double damage), Phage's slow and so on. Spamming Mystic Shot will also decrease the cooldowns of your other spells (especially your ult, but it's also important to get Arcane Shift ready again faster).

Note: Mystic Shot can't crit!

Essence Flux

Ezreal fires a wave of energy that damages all enemy champions it passes through for 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+60% of ability power). Affected ally and enemy champions have their attack speed respectively hasted or slowed by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 5 seconds.

This spell is used as a support skill to buff allies or debuff enemies. But it also makes damage without AP. So if MS is on cooldown feel free to finish an enemy with it. In addition this can be used to stack your passive's attack speed bonus by hitting a few allies or enemies at the same time. If you attack a tower with some teammates, buff them with this skill and see your attack speed increasing at the same time (thanks to your passive).

Note: In contrast to Mystic Shot this spell won't be blocked by minions as they can't be hit by Essence Flux. So you can hit champs if they stay behind their minions with it!

Arcane Shift

Ezreal teleports to a target nearby location and fires a homing arrow at the nearest enemy unit dealing 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+75% of ability power) magic damage.

Use this spell to initiate, escape or finish enemies off. Cast it exactly on an enemy champ to ensure a hit. It's possible to flash over walls with it as well. And the best thing is: it does damage!

Trueshot Barrage

Ezreal channels for 1 second to fire a barrage of missiles dealing 350 / 500 / 650 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to each unit it passes through. However, it deals 8% less damage for each unit it hits (Minimum 30%).

An amazing ultimate in my opinion but not as powerful as for AP Ezreals. Use it to finish escaping champs or in teamfights. The spell will travel through the whole map so you can aim it to hit far champs or annihilate everything on a lane. Use Mystic Shot frequently to reduce the cooldown!

I max out Mystic Shot asap as it is the main spell we'll use in this build. If it's not possible to skill Mystic Shot, just skill Arcane Shift but prefer the ulti of course. Essence Flux is only a support spell in this build so we will skill it last.

6. Runes

I use armor pen marks and quintessences to max the damage of Mystic Shot and the auto-attack. Moreover I use armor signs and magic-res glyphs for more resistance. I think mana reg and mana are not very imporant. With level 18 and the right items you will have enough of both. In addition you should get golem buff frequently.

If you go out of mana very often you might choose mp/5 or mana runes. For quintessences the plain health ones should be also very helpful to Ezreal. Especially in early game.

7. Items

I start with a Meki Pendant and 2 Health Potions to stay longer in the lane.

At first return you should have enough money for Boots of Speed and the Tear of the Goddess.

Next time you should grab Boots of Swiftness as Ezreal is a very slow champion and hopefully the Manamune (not in the mobafire database yet :( ). Manamune is a great item for Ezreal. It gives 350 mana, 7 mp/5, 20 attack damage and 2% of your mana is converted to attack damage. Moreover for each attack you gain 1 mana, and for each skill usage 4 mana (max 1000 mana). So Manamune will boost your damage and your mana.

Next time go straight for a Sheen. Mana, AP and the incredible passive. Notice if you initiate with Arcane Shift you will trigger the passive so your next physical attack will do +100% dmg (in other words: double damage). This also counts for Mystic Shot!! So your Mystic Shot will do double damage. What else to say?

After Sheen you'll need some lifesteal so you can heal yourself in the jungle or while pushing a lane. In my opinion a Bloodthirster is a good item for that and beside that fact it will drastically boost your attack damage. +100 atk and 25% lifesteal when max stacked. This is just awesome. Start with the Vampiric Scepter to get the lifesteal, then go for the B.F. Sword. Your money won't allow to get the whole item at once most of the time but the components are sufficient for the moment.

At this point your damage output is quite good and you should be able to kill a lot of people. But Ezreal is quite squishy and will melt like butter in teamfights if he's careless. So if the game is still on I go for a Guardian Angel. This item gives you armor, magic-res and a second life. :P The passive + Arcane Shift + Flash will give you an awesome survivability. Guardian Angel is so nice in teamfights. Most of the time you will be focused. So if the enemies concentrate on killing you, your teammates have time to deal a lot of damage. After they "killed" you, they are forced to switch their target as they can't wait till you are back to life (reviving won't take place immediately). So this is your chance to get out of trouble and put some damage into the masses from a safe distance. This can really be a teamfight winning reason. 1. Sidetrack enemies without dying. 2. Survive longer to deal more damage. Test it! It's amazing!

If your Bloodthirster isn't completed yet, just do so and try to max it's passive. If you got enough money you should also build a Trinity Force out of the Sheen. This will boost your Mystic Shot damage a lot and will give you many useful things like, atk damage, AP for your ulti, atk speed, movement speed, hp, mana and last but not least a slow. Really useful on Ezreal but unfortunatly very expensive.

At this point 90% of the games will be over. But if not you should fill your remaining slot. Against tanks I think the Black Cleaver is a good choice. It will boost your damage and reduce the enemies def. But it depends on the enemy team. Against heavy magical champs you might buy an item like Banshee's Veil. Against heavy DPS champs you may buy a Thornmail. If you want a stronger ulti you also may buy some AP items like Zhonya's Ring which will also give you a decent active skill to save your life in some cases. Feel free to use an item of your choice.

So your final item build might look like this:

With this item build your Mystic Shot will do up to nearly 1400 damage (with Trinity Force's passive and not considering any armor). But the damage is still amazing considering armor and you can spam it like hell. (See the misc section for damage calculations!)

Alternative Boots:

If you think your attack speed is too low (especially in early game) you can buy the Berserker's Greaves instead of the Boots of Swiftness. The Trinity Force will later give walk and attack speed so it's very dependent on early game if you prefer walk or attack speed.

Mercury's Threads are also an alternative. Basically because of the CC reduction which can be helpful in teamfights or if you are ganked/chased. Ninja Tabis will give you some armor and dodge which can be a good choice against a heavy DPS team but I don't recommend it. If you plan to gank often you might buy Boots of Mobility to boost your walk speed. I prefer Boots of Swiftness or Berserker's Greaves.

8. Gameplay

Early Game:

Grab your starting items and head for the mid lane. If one of your teammate is some mid-prefering champ like Heimer or Swain you can also go to a side lane. If you feel safe you should go to the enemy tower as near as you can and land some hits with Mystic Shot. Most of the time you can reduce the enemies health to the half with that.

Hint: You can check the bushes with your Mystic Shot as well. If an enemy is inside the bush you will hear the hit sound. If you've hit someone wait until MS is ready and use it again to that bush.

After the minions have arrived you should focus on last-hitting them with your auto-attack and penetrate the other champ/champs with Mystic Shot. Don't be too offensive unless you have a good laning partner. You are squishy! Prefer using your Arcane Shift for escaping and not for harassing at this time. Also save your Flash for that reason. If you don't have mana problems you can also use Mystic Shot for last-hitting some times. This is also useful to reduce the cooldowns of your other spells.

Mid Game:

You should be at least level 6 and got your ulti. If your enemy is squishy or low on hp and you have enough mana you should try to kill him. Initiate with Arcane Shift, hit him with Mystic Shot and finish him with your ulti + auto-attacks. If you fail you still have Flash and Heal to escape or to chase a bit more. Also watch the cooldown of Mystic Shot. In most cases you will be able to use it a second time and kill the enemy even if he's behind his tower. You can also try this against two enemies on a side lane as long your lane partner will support you and your Heal/Flash is ready. But it's quite dangerous if you are too careless. You should know what your enemies can do (look if their ultis are ready, if they have enough mana, a heal spell and so on).

Beside that you should focus on last-hitting and do some jungling if you have the time. For example you have full hp and your lane is safe but you plan to bluepill for shopping. You might jungle a bit before that to increase your money/exp.

Another option is ganking. Due to the fact Ezreal is really squishy at this moment it's not the easiest thing. Be sure you know the positions of the enemies when you try to gank and watch the cooldowns of Flash and Arcane Shift. If you're sure to get a quick kill you should initiate with AS as usual and try to finish the enemy with a well-aimed Mystic Shot if necessary. If someone has the luck to escape behind a tower with low hp, feel free to replace his lucky smile with a punch in his face. You know what I mean? Right! Your ulti! Try to place it in a way that it will hit the whole lane.

The ulti can be also used to finish some heavy injured champs of other lanes. Look for those champs which bluepill near their tower and finish them off with your ulti.

You should also get the golem buff if you can. Spam Mystic Shot to boost your attack speed and auto-attack while MS is on cooldown. You can also use Arcane Shift to trigger Sheen's passive before you use MS to double it's damage. With golem buff you should be able to spam MS like crazy. Use it to gank, push a lane or take down a turret.

Hint: When you are attacking a turret you should use your Mystic Shot on near minions to boost your attack speed whenever you can and then continue auto-attacking the turret.

End Game:

In teamfight you should stay out of trouble. Try to land hits with your Mystic Shot from a safe distance. Also use Essence Flux to buff your allies and debuff your enemies. This will also boost your attack speed (thanks to your passive). If the enemy champs are going to escape you maybe can harass them with (Flash) + Arcane Shift + Essence Flux + Mystic Shot and/or with your ulti. But don't run into a 1vs3 or something like that.

When you got into trouble try to flash over walls (Arcane Shift or Flash) and use your Heal spell if necessary. If you got Guardian Angel you should watch for a possible escape route after your revival (hopefully Arcane Shift or Flash are ready then). If you get Trinity Force or Phage and you are chased you can also use Mystic Shot to slow them. A slowed enemy or an enemy with low walkspeed can be hit frequently by Mystic Shot or Essence Flux while escaping. But beware: you have to stop moving and this could be your end if the enemy is too close (think of Akali or LeBlanc). Don't waste your Heal spell in 1vs5 situations where you will die anyway (exception: you are near to a friendly turret or may escape over a wall and something similar).

Never ever go laning alone in end game if you don't know where the enemies are! You should still get golem and lizzard buff but don't go alone there! Always think of an escape possibility (Flash/Arcane Shift + wall, near turret, and so on). Stay behind your tanks and get an Oracle's Elixir if their are champs like Twitch, Evelyn or Shaco. You will be their first target in most cases!

9. Misc

I will show some damage calculations here (at level 18, without armor).

Final Build:

1045 (base Ezreal mana) + 1350 (max stacked Manamune) + 250 (Trinity Force since last patch) = 2645

Attack damage:
92 (base Ezreal damage) + 30 (Trinity Force since last patch) + 100 (max stacked Bloodthirster) + 75 (Black Cleaver) + 20 (Manamune) + 3 (Masteries) = 320

Now think of Manamunes passive (2% of your mana is added as attack damage):
2% of 2645 = 52,9 (we say 53)

Total attack damage: 320 + 53 = 373

If you go for 21 in offense masteries you will get an additional 5% attack bonus.
Improved attack damage: 373 + 5% = 392

Now let's have a look at Mystic Shot. It's damage is calculated as:

140 + 110% of attack damage

So basically Mystic Shot will do 140 + 110% of 392 damage: 571

Now think of Trinity Force's passive (+150% damage after skill usage, since last patch).

This means if we use Arcane Shift (to trigger the passive) + Mystic Shot we will do
571 * 250% damage.

In the end this means 1428 damage! With one Mystic Shot! Nothing else to say. Note that the damage will drastically decrease without the Black Cleaver (if you choose another last item). Also note that armor can absorb much of the damage. This is why Black Cleaver will count twice, especially against Tanks.
