Role and Spells

Annie is an AP Burst Mage who excels at burning down enemies (literally) before they have a chance to react. She Really only can play in the mid lane lane, but with some build moderation you may be able to pull off support Annie

Passive

Pyromania - After casting 4 spells, Annie's next spell will stun the target for 1.75 seconds.

Q

Disintegrate- Annie hurls a mana-infused fireball, dealing damage and refunding the mana cost if it destroys the target.
Deals 85/125/165/205/245 (+0.7) magic damage. Mana cost is refunded if Disintegrate kills the target.
Cost
60/70/80/90/100 Mana
Range
625

W

Incinerate- Annie casts a blazing cone of fire, dealing damage to all enemies in the area.
Casts a cone of fire dealing 80/130/180/230/280 (+0.75) magic damage to all enemies in the area.
Cost
70/80/90/100/110 Mana
Range
625

E

Molten Shield- Shields Annie from harm, reducing damage she takes and returning damage from basic attacks.
Increases Armor and Magic Resist by 20/30/40/50/60 for 8 seconds. Deals 20/30/40/50/60 (+0.2) magic damage to enemies who attack Annie with basic attacks.
Cost
20 Mana
Range
0

R (Ult)

Summon: Tibbers - Annie wills her bear Tibbers to life, dealing damage to units in the area. Tibbers can attack and also burns enemies that stand near him.
Tibbers appears in a burst of flame dealing 200/325/450 (+0.7) magic damage to enemies in the target area.

He chases down enemies continually dealing 35 (+0.2) magic damage for 45 seconds. His Health, Armor, Magic Resist, and Attack Damage increase with rank.

Tibbers can be controlled by holding the alt key and using the right mouse button or by reactivating this ability.
Cost
125/175/225 Mana
Range
600

NOTE: If you plan on having an encounter at level one (such as through invading) you may wish to get Incinerate at level one so that you can stack up Pyromania while on the summoner platform to get a stun ready.

Items

Many argue with the items I get but I will tell you each and every use I have for these items:

Doran's Ring: I usually get this to start instead of boots and three healing potions because the extra AP boost is much needed when farming and poking early on.

Sorcerer's Shoes: I get this because the magic penetration is very good for Annie when bursting down her opponents.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter: This is overall an exceptional item for Annie. It offers a large amount of Ability Power, for more damage, Health, because as Annie you can be easily focused and killed, and the slow. The slow is especially good for Annie because Disintegrate, on an about 3 second cool down offers a 35% slow for 1.5 seconds which allows you to catch up and position for other spells. Also, Tibbers has an aura that does magic damage so getting Rylai's will also make Tibbers' Aura slow.

Rabadon's Deathcap: Hardly any need for an explanation, just a huge amount of ap.

Void Staff: Also a great bonus of Ability power. The Magic Penetration is just very helpful in the late game. When using Summon: Tibbers in team fights this will cause it to melt though enemies magic resistance and do a lot more damage.

Deathfire Grasp:

This like other items offers a lot of AP. The active ability is very useful when trying to quickly finish off enemy AD carries.

Zhonya's Hourglass:

This item is simply a burst mage's best friend it gives us AP and armor to make us more durable and the active. The active is very useful when waiting for cool downs, you can use some spells, escape from harm, then use them again.

Note: As a second option you may wish to swap out Void Staff for Rod of Ages. Use this build if you are seeking a more durable and sustaining Annie build. If you do wish to buy the Rod buy an early Catalyst the Protector after you build Kage's Lucky Pick.

Runes/Masteries

This chapter will explain the runes and masteries I use and why I use them

Runes

Quintessence: Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: These are very good runes for just about any AP caster and offer simply more damage and make it easier to last hit.

Glyph: Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power: This offers a little bit of damage in the early game but helps us flatten out the fact that Annie falls off late game.

Mark: Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: these runes give us some magic penetration which is extremely helpful late game when people will start to build more defensive items.

Seal: Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration: The mana regain per level will help us also in the late game when we are using more spells to keep us mana healthy.

Masteries

My Masteries focus on dealing as much burst damage as possible while staying safe. Take every AP damage increase in the offensive tree and movement speed, mana regain and spell vamp in the Utility Tree.

Last Hitting

Annie in mid lane has probably the most last hitting potential out of all the other AP carries. Annie strangely enough has a very large basic attack range which can come in handy when last hitting. However, she does have extremely low base AD. Despite her very low base AD her Q is very easy to farm with. You will notice on the description of Disintegrate that whenever it kills a unit, the mana cost is refunded. Also this is a very good spell to use when trying to stack up your passive because of its low cool down and mana cost refund. Now at rank one with the rune and masteries I use Disintegrate hits about 110 damage without the reduction of Magic Resist. Always pay attention to exactly how much health the minion has before trying to kill it with Disintegrate. It may not be a huge penalty if you miss the last hit but you always want to stay at full mana with Annie for more poking later on.

Laning Phase Poking

Annie is also a very strong and simple poker in the early game with her passive Pyromania. Her passive is when she uses a spell she gains a stack of Pyromania. When Annie reaches four stacks the buff will light up and be active. This makes Annie's next offensive ability stun her target for 1.75 seconds. You should stack up this ability using your Disintegrate and Molten Shield as they have low or no mana cost. When you do reach four stacks of Pyromania try to harass your lane opponent. As Annie it is very simple. Simply use your Disintegrate to stun the target then Incinerate for some bonus damage. With the 1.75 stun you should be able to run away without any backfire. Repeat this until you feel your target is low enough to kill which isn't very hard with Annie. Poking may be a little bit challenging against some champions such as Ahri, Ziggs, Xerath, Lux, and Morgana. It may be hard because all of these champions have very long range spells which is quite the opposite. Only go on the offensive if you feel that they are overextended enough you can run up before they can use their longer range spells and run away. Also poking may be a bit challenging with a lack of boots for some who don't play very aggressively which you should with Annie

Securing a Kill

Annie is very underplayed and underestimated. Her burst can be just as great as maybe LeBlanc or Veigar. After using my method to poke your opponent down to about 60% maybe higher if you want to use some summoner spells 70% it is time to secure a kill. You really shouldn't be getting many kills until you get your ult Summon: Tibbers but when you do it's very simple. All you have to do is use my poke technique from before. Stack your passive until it is ready, stun with the Disintegrate then follow up with an Incinerate and Summon: Tibbers. Disintegrate does have a very short range and it may be a little bit challenging to stun them as they may have boots at this point in the game. Summon: Tibbers has a bigger range than Disintegrate and is AoE so if you catch them on the very edge of the ult it still stuns them. Then you can followup with the other spells and Ignite if needed and probably secure the kill.

Mid Game

Winning Your Lane: If you are winning your lane then follow this section of the guide. By this time you may have 2 or more kills and probably considered a little bit fed. Use this to help your team. You should farm a little bit by using Incinerate to clear the caster minions if it doesn't quite kill them yet use basic attacks and Disintegrate to finish them off. Now, stack up Pyromania until a stun is ready and gank the top or bottom lane. Ganking the bottom lane may be more effective on account of how squishy the support and AD carry probably are. Note that when you use Incinerate and Summon: Tibbers when your passive is ready will stun all of the targets it effects. You can use these spells if the enemy champions are in the bush and want to buy yourself time to position yourself in front of them in the bush. If you do not have vision of the bush i would not recommend using Summon: Tibbers with this method as you may miss and waste it. When you are ganking do not try to counter jungle or run through the enemy jungle as most junglers such as Xin Zhao, Warwick, Udyr, or Trundle will probably be able to easily chase you down and kill you because as I said you are very slow when you do not yet have Sorcerer Shoes.

Losing Your Lane: If you are losing your lane follow this section of the guide. When you have been ganked multiple times by the enemy jungler, which shouldn't usually be a problem if you buy sight wards and you stun the enemy closest to you when being ganks you may be down by a little bit. Have no fear! all you have to go is rush as much AP as possible, use it to farm using Incinerate. This extra AP should supply you with enough damage to effectively farm and bring yourself back into the game.

Late Game

You may notice that in the later game you start to fall off slightly when playing Annie. This is why i recommend building items like Void Staff or Deathfire Grasp. Void staff will give you some much needed magic penetration because most enemies will probably be building Guardian Angel or Banshee's Veil. Deathfire Grasp is simply an all around great item, it gives you that cool down reduction so you can use more spells and hit more damage. It also gives you the active ability, this ability if used while already having some of the core items above can make just about anyone pee their pants. When your tank is initiating team fights you need the proper positioning as Annie, unlike an AD carry you don't want to stick in the back, but neither in the front on a count of how easily focused you are. When you have tanks such as Leona, Malphite, Amumu, or Shen you always want to follow up to their crowd control. When they use their ult you have to be right behind them so you can stun with Summon: Tibbers and follow up with Incinerate. These two spells will put out so much damage and crowd control, allowing your team to catch up and finish the other team off. If you can pull this off correctly the team fight is a sure win.
