Caitlyn can mid-lane against any champ in the game and come out on top, due to the range of your Piltover Peacemaker ability. Keep your distance and don't get too cocky griefing them with headshot.

Item Sequence:

She is most deadly early game, this means you should not spend time getting mana efficiency items, but rather AS and AD items.

Dorans Blade:
Generic, but extremely necessary, especially if you are going to solo lane.

Berserker Greaves:
Early AS, even a little bit, will make such a HUGE difference to your start with Cait.

Black Cleaver:
If you are able to get your Black Cleaver by 15 minutes, you are doing fantastic. Anytime you build Cait, she should always have this item. Getting it early will add onto your early game power.

Sword of the Divine:
With the passive of Black Cleaver, and the Passive+Active of SotD your auto attacks suddenly become very deadly.

Frozen Mallet:
Now, there is plenty of debate whether Frozen Mallet is good for Cait. I really think its necessary, it will ensure plenty of kills that are trying to escape as well as give her that additional health for sustaining power in group fights. There are too many end game Caitlyns out there with no health bonus items and get immediately eliminated. With the snares and escapes she has, you need to survive long enough to use them. Speaking of escapes, using Frozen Mallet will allow you to save your 90 Caliber Net ability when your chasing down those kills. Keeping this ability on cooldown is extremely valuable, because if you get adds during a chase, your main escape tactic is going to be gone, and therefore your chance of surviving dwindles greatly.

Madred's Bloodrazor:
The amount of armor pen you have at this point goes nicely with Madreds. Again, no AS Build is complete without this item. Tanks have to die at some point, don't they?

Infinity Edge:
After the long stretch to get Madreds up and running, the game should be well underway. This means (if they haven't surrendered to your dmg output by now) your opponents have built up a strong set of items as well. The cherry on top of this build is Infinity Edge. As you will see, this is the perfect item to set you up for your teams end game strategies.

Play Strategy:

Passive:

When you get a Headshot queued up, check enemy minions and champs. If you want to try to gank a different lane, you should do open it up with a headshot. Caitlyn's passive is one of the coolest things about her, so be sure to not waste it all the time.

Piltover Peacemaker (Q):

One important thing I should mention about this ability: In a 1v1 scenario, you should always use this ability as a preemptive weakener, an opener, or a closer. Many Caitlyns out there will use Q in rotation with their other abilities against one target while they are engaing them, however, the dmg output you lose from the lack of auto attacks while channeling Piltover Peacemaker is always more than what it will do when it hits. However, in group fights this will not only line you up for plenty of assists, but you can weaken off targets while you guys drop the main target.

Yordle Snap Trap (W):

This is a great ability. You may or may not be annoyed by the arming time for the traps, but it simply adds another skill aspect to placement. Due to lack of stationary vision, I don't use these in brush when I mid-lane. It's very easy for champs to dodge these, so use the dodging to your advantage. Place your snap traps close together, not too close, but just enough so an enemy champ would feel uncomfortable walking between them. This will allow you to create a comfortable zone by setting up a wall of sorts.

In group fights, you should be using traps every time it's cooled down; additionally, snaring with a trap is one of the best initiators for a fight.

90 Caliber Net (E):

This is used primarily as a blink ability. You can use it to pass through cliffs and short range terrain. In a chase, you shouldn't always consider it's slow effect in your usage, you will increase the distance between you and your target too far if you try to use it as a slow because of the knockback. Instead, shoot it behind you so you get closer to your target, then exhaust them to finish the kill. This is a fun ability and it makes Caitlyn great at escapes.

Ace in the Hole (R):

The perfect ultimate for this champ. However, the base damage isn't as high as it should be (my opinion). It scales well, but for a primarily AS Build, this ability should be used as a finisher on runners. Because of the channeling time, don't ever use this while surrounded by other enemies. You will be far too vulnerable, and most likely the bullet will get intercepted.
