By bboyxje123
Introduction
Welcome to my in-depth Cassiopeia mid guide!

Cassiopeia is one of the most mechanically demanding and rewarding control mages in League of Legends. Unlike most champions, she trades mobility for overwhelming DPS, unmatched zone control, and the ability to completely take over fights through perfect positioning and spell management. When played correctly, Cassiopeia can dominate lanes, shred tanks, and melt entire teams in extended fights.

This guide is aimed at players who want to truly master Cassiopeia, not just pick her up. I’ll cover everything from laning fundamentals and matchup knowledge to teamfighting, positioning, and how to adapt your playstyle to different game states. Cassiopeia rewards patience, precision, and game sense, and this guide will help you develop all three.

Whether you’re looking to climb ranked or simply understand what makes Cassiopeia such a terrifying presence in the rift, this guide will provide you with the tools and mindset needed to consistently carry games with her.

Why Cassiopeia?
Cassiopeia is one of the strongest scaling mages in the game, offering extremely high consistent DPS, excellent zone control, and overwhelming power in extended fights. She excels at punishing immobile champions, shredding tanks, and taking over teamfights when positioned correctly.

Unlike burst mages, Cassiopeia thrives in longer engagements where her low cooldowns and sustained damage allow her to outvalue almost any mid laner. Her kit rewards strong mechanics, smart positioning, and good game knowledge, making her a terrifying carry in the right hands.
Pros/Cons

Pros

→ Extremely high sustained damage
→ Strong scaling into late game
→ Excellent zone control
→ Shreds tanks and bruisers
→ Powerful teamfight presence
→ Extra item slot (no boots)

Cons

→ No mobility tools
→ Very positioning reliant
→ High mechanical difficulty
→ Weak to hard CC
→ Mana hungry early game
→ Vulnerable to burst and ganks
Abilities

SERPENTINE GRACE (Passive)

Innate: Cassiopeia gains 4 - 72 (based on level) bonus movement speed, but she cannot purchase Boots items.

Blessing of Noxus Bonus: Serpentine Grace's bonus movement speed is increased by 1 – 18 (based on level), for a total of 5 – 90 (based on level).

NOXIOUS BLAST (Q)
RANGE: 850
COST: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Mana
COOLDOWN: 3.5
BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50%
MAGIC DAMAGE:75 / 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 (+ 65% AP)
Active: Cassiopeia creates a blast at the target location that explodes after a 0.4-second delay. Enemies within the blast are poisoned for 3 seconds, taking magic damage every 0.429 seconds over the duration.

If Noxious Blast hits an enemy champion, Cassiopeia gains bonus movement speed that decays over 3 seconds.
  • Use this ability in standard matchups to trade in lane or engage fights.
  • Use this ability in Long Range matchups to poke.
  • The movement speed bonus helps when engaging or escaping.
  • This ability applies poison.

MIASMA (W)
RANGE: 700
COST: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 Mana
COOLDOWN: 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 / 16
MAGIC DAMAGE PER SECOND: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 (+ 10% AP)
SLOW: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80%
Active: Cassiopeia spews forth 7 bolts of venom in an arc at the target location, creating toxic clouds at the area for 5 seconds.

Enemies within the clouds are poisoned to take magic damage every 0.263 seconds and become grounded and slowed by an amount that decays over the area's duration.
  • Use this ability within narrow pathways to zone off enemies.
  • Ground enemies with this ability. Think in champ select and before use about grounding enemies with dashes or even flash available.
  • This ability applies poison.

TWIN FANG (E)
RANGE: 700
COST: 40 Mana
COOLDOWN: 0.75
HEAL: 10 / 11.5 / 13 / 14.5 / 16% AP
BONUS MAGIC DAMAGE: 20 / 43 / 66 / 89 / 112 (+ 55% AP)
Active: Cassiopeia launches her fangs at the target enemy that deal 52 – 120 (based on level) (+ 10% AP) magic damage. If this kills the target, Twin Fang's mana cost is refunded.

Against a poisoned target, Twin Fang deals bonus magic damage and heals Cassiopeia. The heal is reduced by 75% against minions and small and medium monsters.
  • This ability is the main damaging ability in cassiopeia's kit and only works well against enemies that are poisoned through Noxious Blast, Miasma, or other champions like Teemo, Twitch, and Singed.
  • Use this ability to last hit minions as the mana cost will be refunded if it kills the target.
  • This ability represents the healing part in cassiopeia's kit.

PETRIFYING GAZE (R)
RANGE: 850
COST: 100 Mana
COOLDOWN: 120 / 100 / 80
MAGIC DAMAGE: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 50% AP)

Active: Cassiopeia blasts enemies in a cone in the target direction, dealing magic damage to enemies struck within and slowing them by 40% for 2 seconds.

Enemies with their facing direction towards her are instead stunned for the same duration.
  • Amazing ability to completely turn the outcome of teamfights.
  • You should always look to stun important damage-dealers within the enemy team, although the slow can also be useful to chase down enemies.
  • Best used when waiting for enemies in an unwarded bush or in combination with Flash
Tips and Tricks

TIPS AND TRICKS
-
Q AS MOVEMENT TOOL: Hitting enemies with Noxious Blast grants you bonus movement speed. Use it to reposition in lane, chase, or kite safely without boots.
Q AS VISION TOOL: Noxious Blast can be used safely to reveal enemies hiding in unwarded bushes. Casting it into a suspected bush lets you see if someone is there without putting yourself at risk. If you get the movement speed boost it means you hit an enemy hiding in that bush.
W AS ZONING TOOL: Miasma can deny dashes, slow enemies, and cut off escape paths. Use it as a zoning tool to control space around objectives, jungler approaches, or during teamfights.
E AS KITING TOOL: In fights, weave in auto-attacks and movement between Twin Fang casts to maximize DPS while staying safe.
E AS DAMAGE TOOL: Twin Fang deals bonus damage to poisoned targets. Enemies are poisoned if they are hit by Noxious Blast, Miasma, or certain allied champion abilities that apply poison. These include: Toxic Shot from Teemo, Contaminate from Twitch, and Poison Trail from Singed. Keeping targets poisoned consistently ensures that Twin Fang deals maximum damage, greatly boosting her DPS in trades and teamfights.
ULT + FLASH: The Petrifying Gaze + Flash combo on Cassiopeia is a high-impact play to catch enemies off-guard. You first press Petrifying Gaze while targets are just out of range, then immediately Flash forward to extend its reach and hit as many enemies as possible. This ensures your Petrifying Gaze stuns opponents who thought they were safe. Timing and positioning are crucial, doing it incorrectly can leave you out of position and vulnerable.
Laning Phase
Cassiopeia's laning phase is all about controlled aggression, wave management, and efficient spell usage. While she can feel weak early due to high mana costs and lack of mobility, proper spacing and patience allow her to scale safely while still applying pressure.

In the early levels, focus on last-hitting with both an auto attack and Twin Fang to conserve mana. The combination of both ensures you will last hit minions, making farming very easy. Use Noxious Blast to poke and secure minions while looking for opportunities to poison your opponent, as landing it grants movement speed and enables follow-up damage. Avoid spamming Twin Fang without poison early, as this will quickly drain your mana for little value.

Once you have access to Miasma, Cassiopeia becomes much harder to engage on. Use it defensively to deny enemy dashes, stop aggressive trades, or control space around the wave. This ability is key against melee and mobile champions and should be saved for important moments rather than used on cooldown.

At level 6, Cassiopeia gains strong kill pressure. Look to bait enemies into walking toward you or contesting the wave, then punish them with well-timed trades and sustained damage. However, due to her lack of mobility, warding and wave positioning are extremely important, so always be mindful of the enemy jungler.

Overall, the goal of the laning phase is to farm consistently, apply safe pressure, and avoid unnecessary deaths.

If played correctly, Cassiopeia will exit lane as a scaling threat capable of taking over mid and late game fights. In the mid and late game I would recommend to splitpush on top or botlane. Cassiopeia's kit makes it extremely difficult for enemies to take you down when splitpushing. Furthermore, this enables you to scale and get towards your full build. As you have Teleport, you can always respond to certain teamfights starting elsewhere on the map.
Teamfights
Cassiopeia excels in extended teamfights where positioning, patience, and target selection are key. She is not a burst mage looking for instant kills, but a sustained damage carry that thrives when fights are drawn out.

Before a fight starts, position safely behind your frontline and look to control space with Miasma. This ability is crucial for denying engages, stopping enemy divers, and forcing opponents to fight on your terms. Never walk into fog of war or overextend, as Cassiopeia has no mobility tools to escape once caught.

During fights, prioritize hitting the closest safe targets while continuously applying poison to enable Twin Fang spam. Do not tunnel vision on enemy carries as Cassiopeia melts tanks and bruisers extremely quickly, and staying alive is always more important than chasing kills.

Your ultimate Petrifying Gaze is a powerful turning tool. Use it reactively against enemies running into you or diving your backline rather than forcing flashy plays. A well-timed ultimate can instantly swing a fight, especially in tight spaces like jungle corridors or around objectives.
Summoner Spells

SUMMONER SPELLS
-
FLASH: As always Flash is one of your summoner spells. Nothing is as handy as repositioning yourself or even escaping with Flash. It can also be used in some combos, for instance with Petrifying Gaze.
TELEPORT: As cassiopeia you should always take Teleport for several reasons. First of all, you are very immobile and need to scale a lot so this ensures you can get back to lane as quickly as possible in hard laning matchups. Second, in the mid and late game cassiopeia has a great kit to splitpush, but you should always be able to move towards teamfights on the other side of the map instantly.
Runeset 1: Standard
★ Conqueror is an excellent keystone for Cassiopeia because of her ability to deal consistent damage over extended fights. Her low cooldowns and rapid E usage allow her to stack Conqueror quickly and maintain it throughout trades and teamfights. Once fully stacked, the adaptive force greatly amplifies her sustained DPS, while the healing helps her survive longer in drawn-out engagements. This makes Conqueror especially effective against standard matchups and tankier team compositions where fights last longer.

★ Presence of Mind is extremely valuable on Cassiopeia due to her heavy mana reliance, especially in the early and mid game. Takedowns restore mana and increase her maximum mana pool, allowing her to stay active in fights and skirmishes for much longer. This rune enables more frequent spell usage without being forced to disengage or reset after short trades.

★ Legend: Haste is a strong choice on Cassiopeia because ability haste directly increases her damage output and control in fights. Lower cooldowns on her spells allow her to apply poison more consistently and spam E more frequently in extended trades. As stacks are gained over the course of the game, this rune scales very well and enhances her mid to late game power.

★ Cassiopeia excels at melting frontline champions over time, and Cut Down amplifies that strength significantly. It provides consistent value throughout the game without requiring any special conditions to play around.

★ Manaflow Band helps solve one of Cassiopeia’s biggest early-game weaknesses: mana management. Consistently hitting abilities allows her to increase her maximum mana, giving her more freedom to trade, shove waves, and apply pressure in lane. Once fully stacked, the bonus mana regeneration greatly improves her ability to stay active without backing.

★ Transcendence is a strong scaling rune for Cassiopeia that enhances her power as the game progresses. Ability haste is extremely valuable on her, as lower cooldowns directly translate into more consistent poison application and higher sustained damage. Upon reaching level 11, the cooldown refund on takedowns allows her to continue casting spells freely during teamfights.
Itemset 1: Standard
TEAR OF THE GODDESS
Tear of the Goddess is the ideal starting item for Cassiopeia because it directly addresses her heavy mana demands from the very beginning of the game. Since she relies on frequent spell casts to trade and farm, stacking Tear early ensures she can scale into the mid game without running out of resources. It also accelerates the completion of Archangel's Staff, which is essential for her overall power curve.

ARCHANGEL'S STAFF
Archangel's Staff is a core item on Cassiopeia, providing a massive mana pool that fully enables her spell-heavy playstyle. The bonus ability power gained from maximum mana greatly increases her damage while solving all remaining mana issues. Once upgraded into Seraph's Embrace, the shield offers valuable survivability against burst and dive threats.

LIANDRY'S TORMENT
Liandry's Torment is essential on Cassiopeia for maximizing her sustained damage against high-health targets. Its passive burn synergizes perfectly with her poison-based kit, allowing her to melt tanks and bruisers over the course of extended fights.

RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER
Rylai's Crystal Scepter is a strong pick on Cassiopeia because it adds consistent crowd control to her kit. The slow from her abilities allows her to kite enemies, control space in fights, and make it much harder for opponents to dodge her E damage. In addition to the utility, the item provides bonus health and ability power, increasing both her survivability and damage.

RABADON'S DEATHCAP
Rabadon's Deathcap is a core damage spike for Cassiopeia, massively amplifying her ability power and turning her sustained damage into a teamfight-dominating force. The large AP boost scales exceptionally well with her E and poison synergy, allowing her to melt both squishy carries and tanky frontline champions.
Runeset 2: Vs Long Range
★ Summon Aery is an excellent keystone for Cassiopeia in poke-heavy matchups because it enhances her harass and lane pressure. Her Q and E abilities can consistently trigger Aery, allowing her to chip away at enemies while staying at a safe distance. This rune rewards precise, frequent spell usage, giving her lane dominance against long-range mages who rely on keeping you at range.

★ Scorch is ideal for Cassiopeia in poke-focused matchups because it adds consistent, extra burn damage to her trades. Every time she lands a spell, Scorch helps pressure the enemy laner, making it harder for them to sustain or safely farm. This small but frequent damage amplifies her lane dominance and punishes mispositioning.

Itemset 2: Vs Long Range
DORAN'S RING
Doran's Ring is a strong starting item for Cassiopeia in poke-heavy matchups because it provides extra health, ability power, and mana regeneration. The bonus health helps her survive early harassment from long-range mages, while the AP increases her poke damage to trade effectively. Mana regeneration allows for more frequent spell usage without running out, which is crucial in matchups where staying safe and poking consistently matters.

BLACKFIRE TORCH
Blackfire Torch is an ideal replacement for Archangel's Staff in poke-heavy matchups because it enhances Cassiopeia's ability to harass and pressure enemies from a distance. The item's passive grants a stacking magic damage effect on spell hits, which synergizes perfectly with her constant Q and E usage, allowing her to chip away at opponents safely. It also provides ability power and mana, maintaining her spell-casting potential while increasing lane dominance. Blackfire Torch lets Cassiopeia focus on sustained poke rather than extended all-ins, making her much more oppressive against long-range mages.

Situational Items
VOID STAFF
Void Staff is a core situational item when the enemy team starts stacking magic resist. Cassiopeia's sustained damage can be heavily reduced by MR-heavy champions, so Void Staff ensures her Twin Fang and Q/W poke remain threatening. It's particularly strong against tanky compositions with multiple frontliners or mid-to-late-game scaling mages.

BLOODLETTER'S CURSE
Bloodletter's Curse is a great situational item for Cassiopeia when you need some extra survivability while still maximizing damage. It provides bonus health, which helps her survive poke and skirmishes, and its percent magic resistance reduction is especially effective when your team already has multiple AP champions. This makes it a strong pick against tankier compositions or games where enemies are stacking MR, ensuring your sustained damage remains threatening.

SPIRIT VISAGE
Spirit Visage is a strong choice on Cassiopeia when facing AP-heavy poke or sustained magic damage. The bonus health and magic resist make her much harder to burst, while the increased healing amplifies her Twin Fang sustain, allowing her to trade longer and survive extended fights. Pick this item when you need durability but still want to scale your damage through healing.

BANSHEE'S VEIL
Banshee's Veil is ideal against burst mages or champions with dangerous crowd control. The spell shield can block a key ability that would otherwise lock you down or kill you, giving Cassiopeia a safer window to output damage. It's especially useful in mid-game fights where a single CC or ult can swing the outcome.

ABYSSAL MASK
Abyssal Mask is great when your team has multiple AP champions and you want to reduce the enemy's magic resist in teamfights. The item provides magic resist and health for survivability, while its aura amplifies all magic damage your team deals, synergizing well with Cassiopeia's sustained DPS.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS
Zhonya's Hourglass is a situational armor item that provides survivability against burst damage and assassins. Its active allows Cassiopeia to become untargetable for 2.5 seconds, giving her a chance to avoid lethal abilities, wait for cooldowns, or disrupt enemy engages. The bonus ability power also enhances her damage, making it a balanced defensive-offensive choice. It's especially useful against assassins like Zed, Talon, or LeBlanc, or when diving enemies threaten to instantly eliminate her in fights.

FROZEN HEART
Frozen Heart is an excellent situational pick when facing attack speed-heavy teams or auto-attack reliant champions. The massive armor and cooldown reduction improve Cassiopeia's survivability while allowing her to cast Twin Fang and other spells more frequently. Its aura reduces enemy attack speed, which helps mitigate sustained damage in fights, making it especially useful against ADCs or champions like Jax, Yasuo, or Tryndamere.

RANDUIN'S OMEN
Randuin's Omen is ideal against critical strike-heavy teams or compositions with strong physical damage. The bonus health and armor increase Cassiopeia's durability, while the passive slow can disrupt diving enemies, giving her more time to poke or kite safely. It's particularly effective against ADCs and bruisers who rely on mobility and crits.

MEJAI'S SOULSTEALER
Mejai's Soulstealer is a high-risk, high-reward item that can snowball Cassiopeia's damage if you're performing well. Each stack grants bonus ability power, dramatically increasing your poke and Twin Fang damage, while the passive ensures you scale quickly if you secure kills or assists. It's best used when you're ahead and confident in your positioning, as dying frequently can cause the stacks to drop.

MORELLONOMICON
Morellonomicon is ideal against teams with heavy healing or sustain, such as champions with lifesteal, regeneration, or healing abilities. The Grievous Wounds it applies reduces healing, allowing Cassiopeia's sustained DPS to more effectively whittle down targets. It's particularly useful against compositions with champions like Soraka, Vladimir, or Dr. Mundo.

COSMIC DRIVE
Cosmic Drive is a strong situational item for enhancing mobility and ability haste. The bonus movement speed helps Cassiopeia kite, chase, or reposition during teamfights, while the ability haste allows her to cast Twin Fang and poke spells more frequently. Pick this item when you want to increase her uptime in fights and maintain consistent damage output while staying safe.
