Introduction

Welcome to my Volibear guide. The guide you are reading will be pointing towards how I personally build my Volibear. Please comment on anything that you may be confused on and criticize anything that you might think I might be wrong in. This guide is only made towards my opinion.

Volibear is an aggressive tank. You must also need to know that to be aggressive does not mean you start tower diving in the beginning, or believe that you are god just because you have a new champion. You must play smart as an aggressor. Being cocky will open up weak spots for yourself and then the enemy will take advantage of it. For example, you will more likely be overextended and away from your partner. You must know when to move in, when you pull out.

Masteries

The Mastery I chose was 0/22/8

In the Defense side, I put 3/3 points under Initiator and under Utility i have 4/4 in Swiftness. I do this I like to control my lane without being harassed by the opponents. When I charge in, I would be able to catch them before they can react to my move. I also chose the two movement speed options just incase I need to run back either from a jungler ganking, or if the enemy is doing a bit too much damage.

Runes

The runes that I have chose personally was:

Greater Mark of Alacrity x9
Greater Seal of Alacrity x9
Greater Glyph of Alacrity x9
Greater Quintessence of Swiftness x3

Having my 2nd ability gives me a great oppertunity to maul people down with my attack speed. The attack speed runes (28% total) gives me this advantage in early and late game.

Other runes I do suggest are:

Greater Mark of Fortitude x9
Greater Mark of Vitality x9
Greter Seal of Vitality x9
Greater Quintessence of Fortitude x9
Greater Quintessence of Vitality x9

There is nothing wrong with more health :] . With your 2nd ability, you would be able to hit hard and still have a lot of health to survive any counters during that phase.

Another I would recommend is:

Greater Glyph of Shielding x9

If you do not have any defense runes, you are vulnerable to to any champions. If you have a lot of health, but no defense, you will die faster than if you have more defense but less health. I have played many tanks and I know that defense will save your behind in so many situations. Having this rune will give you confidence against champions that uses some kind of ap attack.

Skill Sequence

The thing to Volibear is that he is aggressive like singed and udyr. Upgrading your 2nd skill first will give you a great counter attack or the first hit advantage. Upgrading your 1st skill as your 2nd priority will give you a sense of survivabilty. Using your first skill will help you to run away from ganks that you know you cannot win. Using your first skill will also help out your teammates in initiating fights or saving them from being chased by the enemy such as Master Yi or Tryndamere.

Skill order:

Frenzey>Rolling Thunder>Frenzey>Majestic Roar>Frenzey>Thunder Claws>Frenzy>Rolling Thunder>Frenzy>Rolling Thunder>Thunder Claws>Rolling Thunder>Rolling Thunder>Majestic Roar>Majestic Roar>Thunder Claws>Majestic Roar>Majestic Roar

Summoner Spells

The summoner spells are a toss up. I use Flash and Heal. The heal had saved me many times. If you would rather not use heals, Exhaust, Ignite, Ghost, Cleanse are good alternatives. It is really what you would prefer.

On the other hand, Clairvoyance, Clarity, Promote, Surge, Revive are not necessary in the game.

Teleport is so-so.

*The thing to remember is that you are a tank, you are not some wimpy dps. Be aggressive like Singed and Udyr, but play smart.
