I understand what you're saying about the math, and I was aware of it before that, but that is relying on you being able to last hit, which shouldn't be an issue in lane but you never know, eh? The base mana regen, though, is higher, which appeals to me in combination with the fact that I can pick up Chalice of Harmony faster without having to sell anything. Another appealing factor is that I can start with two Total Biscuit of Rejuvenation and a Mana Potion instead of just one biscuit, meaning longer time in lane and safer farming against champs like Fizz or Ahri, who and poke and dive relentlessly if they feel like it. I used to run Doran's Ring to start, but I prefer how safe I feel with that many consumables to sustain me. On the other hand, though, I did put in the Doran's Ring start for other people's preference. I use that start with most AP mid laners, but I am partial to this one on Lux c:
And I can see why people wouldn't want Clarity in a build. I took it out, though it was only in there for people who insist on options. I, personally, never run anything but Ignite and Flash in mid lane, as any champ I own :P Two best spells right there.
Anyway, if you have any other feedback feel free to leave it, I'd love to hear.
You claim that double Faerie Charm gives you more mana regen per 5, and while this may look like the case, it isn't always. On Lux in particular, it is ridiculously easy to get CS because of her long range and passive proc. This means you can get the mana back per last hit from Doran's Ring more effectively than most other mid-laners. Don't believe me? Here's the math ;)
Also, double Faerie Charm offers no addition stats. It doesn't give you AP (which means more damage on both your abilities and auto attacks because of Arcane Blade ) nor does it give any survivability (compared to the 60 health from Doran's Ring). While Doran's Ring doesn't build into anything later, it still provides with all of the essential stats that you need for early game. Besides, on your first back (probably around the 5-6 minute mark), you should have more than enough gold for a Chalice of Harmony :)
You should consider greater mark of hybrid penetration. It's really good on Lux because she can harass very, very easily early game because of her long range abilities and passive proc (which was buffed~). It sacrifices the tiniest amounts of magic pen, but that is easily be built later in your core items. Also, Greater Seal of Health is better than Greater Seal of Armor now ^_^ This is because every single champion in the game got some extra armor with the nerf, so the 72 health actually increases the efficiency of that armor that was given to you for free.
No defensive item options? D: Guardian Angel is great if you need to survive past any burst assassins, and Banshee's Veil is beyond useful if you have an enemy Morgana throwing Dark Bindings at your face all game long.
Nooooooo don't mention Clarity! I'll tell you a secret now, and it is that most people here on MOBAFire downvote almost immediately after seeing that summoner spell. Also, taking Teleport is not so you can get back to lane faster. Well, sometimes it is, but Teleport is used more for global map presence. For example, you notice that the jungler is ganking bot and your allies need help. What you do is quickly throw an E to the wave to push it, and then tele down to pick up the triple kill.
Fix these things and you'll have my upvote :)
