Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
My other builds:
Garen - A DPS Hybrid Carry Build
Taric - A Tank/Support Hybrid Build
Morgana - An Archangel's Staff Exploit Build
Galio - A Synergized Tank Build
Note: This is not a guide for how to play Ezreal, simply a build to utilize in conjunction with those guides.
The long debated superiority between AP Ezreal and AD Ezreal can finally be put to an end. I present to you, the Hybrid Ezreal, utilizing aspects from both AP Ezreal and AD Ezreal. The Hybrid Ezreal is able to scale with a wide variety of stats, and thus has many different paths he can go in terms of items. My build listed here is only a general build and should be changed depending on the other team's composition and other factors.
Early game Ezreal will be more AD-based. The first item to go for is always Sheen, as Sheen will improve the effectiveness of Ezreal's Mystic Shot drastically. Berserker's Greaves is a good option for boots as the extra attack speed will help improve Ezreal's auto-attacks. With Guinsoo's Rageblade, Ezreal gains a little bit of ability and further attack speed and damage. By the time you acquire Guinsoo's Rageblade, you will likely have access to Ezreal's ultimate, Trueshot Barrage, and the extra ability power will help you finish off those runners more easily. Now after Guinsoo's Rageblade the item choices become more flexible. If the other team has a lot of tanks, then go for Madred's Bloodrazor, as suggested in the build. Ezreal's insane attack speed (further increased by Rising Spellforce) will allow Madred's Bloodrazor to reach its full potential. If the other team has a lot of casters or mana-based champions, a Wit's End may be a good cheap addition to Ezreal's arsenal. If you are short on money and need a quick boost in DPS, then you may want to skip to a Hextech Revolver then a Hextech Gunblade, which can also improve survivability through its spell vamp and lifesteal components. Ezreal's strengths lie in his flexibility in items in order to counter the other team. The suggested items are for the most general purposes only, and should be strongly adhered to. Below is a list of situationally useful items to Ezreal:
Madred's Bloodrazor - Great damage-boosting items, especially devastating against tanks that believe they are safe with massive amounts of HP
Wit's End - Great against casters without a lot of HP and mana-based melee such as Yi or Xin Zhao
Hextech Gunblade - Damage-boosting item; also provides Ezreal extra survivability and chasing ability with its spell vamp, lifesteal, and slow
Deathfire Grasp - Extra spell for good burst damage; good ability power; more effective against tanks
Malady - Like Madred's Bloodrazor, greatly improves Ezreal's auto-attacking power; however, makes most of your damage vulnerable to a good stun/disable
Sword of the Divine - Greatly improves attack speed to near the limit; active useful against champions like Jax, or any carry with dodge or a Phantom Dancer
Rylai's Crystal Scepter - Reliable slow, can be used in conjunction with Trueshot Barrage to help teammates chase down surviving enemies
Frozen Mallet - Also reliable slow, however can not be used at incredibly long range, but improves survivability as well
Mejai's Soulstealer and Sword of the Occult - Win-more items that help you win faster; as the Hybrid Ezreal utilizes both attack damage and ability power, buy both to get double the effect for just one kill!
Nashor's Tooth - Great all-around item that improves all the stats Ezreal needs (see cooldown reduction talk below)
The Bloodthirster and The Black Cleaver - Straight up attack damage improves Ezreal's auto-attacks and Mystic Shots; use against low-armor team
Trinity Force and Lich Bane - Depending on cost and whether the opposing team has a lot of armor or magic resistance, these two items allow you to customize your Ezreal to specialize in the other team's weak point
Rune-wise, I focused somewhat on cooldown reduction, as it scales with both Ezreal's physical and magical attacks (the faster his abilities hit his opponents, the faster he can build stacks of Rising Spellforce). The armor penetration Marks help him early game, when armor is low and when Ezreal relies mainly on his auto-attack and Mystic Shot, both of which are physical.
Ezreal is a great DPS. What makes him unique is his ability to adapt to a large variety of items, and using each one to great effectiveness to counter the other team's composition and builds. Ezreal can truly "explore" all his options in the midst of battle and utilize his wide variety of "tools" to change the outcome of a battle. Readers of MOBAFire and players of LoL, try this build, and who knows, you might "discover" something new about Ezreal!
Note to self: Need to test whether Mystic Shot affects cooldown on item actives
