Introduction

This guide will be showing how I play one of my main AP champions, Fiddlesticks. This build is usually played on 5v5, as I do not play 3v3 games much, but I'm pretty sure that it will work as well. This build may have to be jumbled up a bit because of the other team stacking MR, but usually the build would usually be the same. Please do not down vote the guide without reading the whole guide.

Why play fiddle?

Fiddlesticks is a champion with huge AP damage, but unlike most AP isn't a nuker, but has a sustained damage or can kinda be called an "AP fighter"
Fiddle's main damage source comes from drain, which is only a 5 second cooldown, and drain already lasts 5 seconds. So fiddle has nonstop damage coming out, along with a huge aoe silence, and a 3 second long fear.

Main reason to play fiddle: DAT ULT. Crowstorm
Fiddle's ult has one of the biggest area of effect damage in the game, and has huge AP scaling. Along with rylais, fiddle's ult has a huge damaging, slowing circle around him.

In short.
Long *** fear Terrify
Huge Silence CC Reap
Never ending drain Bountiful Harvest
and that game breaking ult. Crowstorm
who wouldn't wanna play a champion like this?

THIS IS NOT A JUNGLE FIDDLE BUILD.

IMO, jungle fiddle is decent as it lets you get farm easily early game compared to laning, but his ganks aren't that great. Because he has to stand still while dishing out major damage due to drain. Also because you will need to ditch flash or ghost for smite, while to me, both summoner spells are essential. I'm not saying that jungle fiddle is bad, just his ganks until he hits 6.

Cons/Pros <-- Mixing it up.

Pros:
-Plenty of CC, especially when paired up with Rylai's
-Game Breaking Ultimate
-Good sustainability&durability when paired with ROA and Rylais
-Great champion in team fights, with huge AOE.

Cons:
-Doesn't have as much burst compared to other champions
-Most CC will shut down most of Fiddle's damage coming from drain
-Not as much range as most champions
-May be difficult to farm with early on
-Has a problem against champions with MR early game
-RIDICULOUSLY SLOW

What lane should I be in?

In my build, I do not play fiddlesticks as a jungler unlike most people. I feel that he can be a mid champion due to his cc and huge damage/heal from drain. Fiddle may also be able to solo top occasionally, but not often as most solo tops like Garen, Singed, have cc that would shut down Fiddle's main damage source, drain.

When Fiddle is mid, Fiddle would be a good match against champions like
Akali
Katarina
Karthus (Maybe)
and many others without much hard CC.

Fiddles Enemies in mid: Anivia Annie Kassadin (!!!!) Ryze Malzahar Mordekaiser Sion (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), etc
Most of the champions fiddle will have a hard time in mid against are the champions with those stuns, silences, and long range. Also against champions who can dish out a lot of damage in a second and just run back, aka the "nuke and gtfo champs" like ryze and annie.
When against these kind of champions, if they have skill shots it may be necessary to start with boots Boots and against champions like annie/ryze with a burst and gtfo, you might want to start with Dorian's Ring for early durability

When Fiddle is top, which hopefully isn't often, he may be a good match against champions like
Malphite
Tryndamere
Nasus
and others without hard cc.
Fiddle is evenly matched against champions like
Lee Sin and Gangplank but its a matter of skill, as they dont have the cc to shut you down, but have insane damage.
Enemies: Singed (NEVER SOLO AGAINST A SINGED IF POSSIBLE) Riven Irelia Garen Shen Udyr Volibear, etc.

Runes

For runes, i choose Magic Penetration for they are almost key to all AP carries
i choose Mana/level seals as Fiddle's main problem early game is running out of mana. [[
i choose AP/level glyphs just to beef up Fiddle's damage late game, and because they surpass the flat glyphs very early.
and for quintessences (im not sure if thats the correct spelling) I run 2 AP quints and 1 Magic Pen quint just to be able to pierce 1/3rd of the base mana resist for most champions.

Masteries

For masteries, I run the standard 21/0/9 to grab the Magic Pen, bonus AP, movement speed, the death time is priceless, the jungle buff extender, and grabbing points on Summoner's Wrath and Insight to improve flash and ghost.

Summoner Spells

For Summoner spells, i run
Flash and Ghost

I run flash because it helps with the placement of your ult, without being seen casting it.

I run ghost because it helps when in your ult, you can be able to catch up with the fleeing champions as fiddle is a very, very slow champion

Optional

Exhaust is an option as a replacement for ghost if you prefer having people in range of your drain longer instead of having more ult mobility. But i find that the rylai's slow added with drain is enough.

Ignite is an option if you always find that enemies keep getting away with miniscule health after your full combo

Heal sure.

Spells not to get:
everything besides the ones above :)

Items

My Usual Items
For items, i try to rush catalyst for some beefyness early game.
Early game, if you are laning against an insane burst champion, then i would recommend getting dorians ring for the extra health, and the ap and mana regen help out. If not, you should be getting sapphire crystal for more mana early game and so you can rush catalyst for when you first go back.

I get the Rod of ages for the decent ability power, health, and mana which fiddle needs.

I get rylais for the amazing slow/durability

I get will of the ancients as with ur ult, you can heal through most of the damage people do to you, and drain just heals that much more. You could get this item earlier in the game, but you should get it early only if you have 2+ AP champions, not counting supports.

Rabadons= Huge AP. 'Nuff said

I would usually get Abyssal scepter as fiddle is a close range champion, so the aura works wonders along with his passive.

Optional Items

I might get void staff, if the enemy team is starting to stack heavy MR like FON and Banshees.

Is also a possibility if you don't need any MR to be reduced from the other team, as the Active can save your life in a pinch.

Why Rylais!??!?!??!!??? o___o

Rylais fits into my build, because
1) The slow is amazing for keeping people in range of your drain/ult
2) Fiddle loves HEALTH to last through a few hits
3) and again. THE SLOW IS AMAZING
4) Who doesn't love ability power?

Skill Sequence

I level drain, silence, and fear first so once you hit level 3, you can already pull off your devastating combo and do a lot of damage. Drain is priority because it is your main source of damage, but the downside is that people escape the range easily. You could possibly level all the skills evenly, but you wouldn't have to much damage on drain.

Summary

This is my build on how to play fiddle, a beefy AP champion who can dish out major aoe damage with huge cc to back him up. Hope you liked my build ^__^
