Introduction

Hello, on League of Legends, my summoner name is oLucrio. I mostly play top lane and AD carry with my friends and in ranked solo queue. At the moment of making this guide, I have an elo of ~ 2036, so hopefully everyone likes it. Irelia has been one of my favorite champions since I started playing League, and I feel I have much experience with her. Irelia is all about taking great advantage of people's mistakes, while at the same time not making one (or at least trying)

I have been playing League of Legends for around a year now and I feel I have a good enough understanding of the game now to make a guide for one of my favorite champions. Just realize that this is no kiddy guide. This is the real deal boys and girls, so take it seriously. And don't worry, I am a very experienced player.

Pros / Cons

Summoner Spells

Probably your optimal summoner spells for 70% of the games you will play. Flash is the obvious choice, you fleysh, he fleysh, I fleysh, we all fleysh. Flash enables you to make the big time plays that can change the flow of the game. Combined with your Equilibrium Strike, Flash can give you an incredible stun if you want to surprise an opponent.

Ignite is a spell that almost everyone nowadays runs top lane. The kill potential in lane is amazing coupled with your easy-to-set-up ganks. Irelia is a great lane to gank for, if you're not pushing yet. The extra damage can, and usually is, the difference. Ignite is always a great spell to take against high sustaining top laners such as Yorick and Vladimir. These guys can, you know, be a pain in the rear.

Exhaust is always a great summoner to have on top lane. Believe it or not, ignite is not always the best choice. Against tough burst/high dueling potential lane match ups, Exhaust is always great to have. It cuts down on the impending doom of the incredible damage that champions such as Kennen and Renekton can deal.

Ghost is a summoner spell I have constantly pondered using. Finally, I have come to the conclusion that Flash is the better option in the current meta. Ghost doesn't give the play-making opportunities like Flash, but it is a nice summoner to have. It's down to preference with this one.

Teleport is a big time preference spell in the top lane. If you feel that it's going to be a farm heavy lane, Teleport is the way to go. This summoner spell gives flexibility in roaming to dragon to fight, and still keeping your top tower alive and healthy. Not only that, but it can help you recover from a devastating early gank. Remember, I only use it if it's going to be a very farm heavy lane. ( Warwick Nasus)

ALMOST ALL OF THE OTHER SUMMONER SPELLS ARE NOT WORTH HAVING (In my opinion :3)

Masteries

armor penetration is almost a must for Irelia to properly trade in lane.

I know what you're thinking... what kind of masteries are those in the Defense Tree? Well basically, the health regeneration mastery helps tremendously in lane, whether you know it or not. I would prefer to get the reduced minion damage over armor, because combined with Indomitable , minion do almost no damage to you, and ranged creeps damage is greatly decreased. That way, when you're fighting on creeps, you have a chance against your opponent and his midget sorcerers!

The seven points in Utility are almost mandatory for Irelia. Some people don't realize this, but the mana regeneration helps Irelia more than you know. It enables you to be able to last hit with your Bladesurge, and lets you constantly be able to use your skills for harassment. Sometimes, you need this in order to survive in lane against some champions, such as Darius and Kennen. Especially useful against ranged top laners!

BUT LUCRIO
Someone else told me to go 21 into the Offense Tree! Well son, the Offense Tree doesn't have much to offer for Irelia compared to other things in the Defense and Utility Tree. I don't think that 3% lifesteal is worth it, or Executioner . Yes, it goes along with her Bladesurge, but the mana regeneration, or the extra tankiness in the Defense Tree is way more useful.

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Greater Mark of Attack Damagex9: These are pretty cookie cutter for every top lane champion. Extra damage for trades, while also giving more AD to last hit. Pretty simple to understand. These can be replaced with greater mark of desolation, but is not recommended.

Greater Seal of Armorx9: My most used Seals in this game. In my opinion, they are almost mandatory top lane. Almost every top laner nowadays does some sort of physical damage, so the Greater Seal of Armor is the optimal choice.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist x9: I prefer these as my glyphs because they are incredibly useful against other top lane champions who do some form of magic damage. ( Darius Vladimir Kennen Rumble etc.) These can be replaced with MR per Lv if you feel that you don't need flat magic resist. Mostly preference

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damagex3: Now, you see I have 2 different sets of Quintessences in my guide. This is because, Irelia's quints are never the same. They mostly depend on your matchup top lane. These are for a more aggressive style top lane, for easier last hitting and stronger trading. More commonly used now because of the aggressive top lane meta.

greater quintessence of vigor x3: I would generally use Health Regeneration in a farm heavy lane ( Warwick Nasus) so I can stay in lane longer, farming longer, getting stronger. It gives you some good laning sustain!
