# WORK IN PROGRESS
This build is a work in progress. Currently, I have only done a quick rundown of items/masteries in the notes above – please check them out.
For a while now I have been trying to figure out a way to play Alistar anywhere but support. I tried going AP mid, but his damage was weak and he wasn't tanky enough, then jungle but he was way too slow and even his ganks couldn't compensate that. Then, at one point I decided to go Top lane with Hail of Blades, and it was a success. I played around ~40 games as Alistar on Top, and usually had great success.
For a while now I have been trying to figure out a way to play Alistar anywhere but support. I tried going AP mid, but his damage was weak and he wasn't tanky enough, then jungle but he was way too slow and even his ganks couldn't compensate that. Then, at one point I decided to go Top lane with Hail of Blades, and it was a success. I played around ~40 games as Alistar on Top, and usually had great success.
# BASIC WAY HOW TO PLAY ALISTAR
Here's a very simplified version of what you should do on Top lane as Alistar:
> buy Cull
> go Top
> play passively on level 1
> try to W-Q combo at level 2 with Hail of Blades then run away
> if you won that trade, try that again
> if not, play safe and wait for your jungler
> try to freeze lane under your turret
> recall and teleport back with Bami's Cinder
> most of the time you should be able to win trades from now on, then just try to farm up Cull and follow the build
!! warning: you will probably still lose in farm
After laning Phase, try to follow your team and make fights. You will be very tanky, but still be able to kill enemy ADC unless he is super fed. You will be able to take a lot of damage.
> buy Cull
