Introduction

This is my first guide, but very experienced lol and malphite player. Be gentle^^

If you like my guide give me a vote up.

Welcome to Malphite The Not So Gentle Giant.

Malphite is a not so heavy tank like the rest, though his passive makes him great harras, since he can even take a tower hit and nothing happens.

His strongest point is the he has more damage than most tank when he initiates teamfights and when he harres.

This build can be used for solo and for babysitting a carry if you dont like the standard support heroes but still want to babysit

Runes

These runes are for the agressive playstyle that i use for malphite

Marks: Magic Penetration, since all his abilities are magic damage, this gives him alot more damage on his abilities and makes him have that insane initiate.

Seals: Mana regen per level, these runes are for harras and sustain late game so you don't have to buy a chalice to keep you mana up.

Glyphs: Magic Resist per level, more magic resist for late game so you can better survive you initiates, the other choice here could be cooldown reduction for your ultimate if you wanna go for a frozen hearth, but magic resist is better since your ultimate is up when you need it if you use it right.

Quintessences: Movespeed: he is a better chaser than most and this makes sure you can get your shard on them when chasing and get into position for you ultimate.

Masteries

9/21/0

Spell pen from offence and then all down in defence.
This makes his abilities have maximum effect and not so tanky champions and will make him much harder to kill.

If you are babysitting bot you can go 9/0/21 for improved CV and movespeed, this will help your team alot if you don't have a support. This makes malphite a good support/tank/chaser champion, but not so heavy as you want so only if babysitting bot with CV.

Skill Sequence

Getting your Q maxed first make you have a very good chase and harras, then maxing E for good follow up aoe damage after you ultimate or after a Q while chasing, maxing W last since you really need it most in the late game for the armor buff and for buffing you E's damage in mid game.

Summoner Spells

Ignite since that makes killing so much easier against heavy targets for your team.

Ghost is so that you can get into position for ultimate or for chasing with shard.

You can get flash instead of ghost, but have found ghost to be that much more usefull.

If you go babysitting in bot with a carry you should take Ignite/CV since that gives you some usefull vision for your team. Only pick CV when you support bot lane as babysitter with 9/0/21 masteries, otherwise CV is not as usefull as it could be.

Items

Gold per 10 items are very usefull for a tank, since you should not get the kill, your carry should, so they help you keep up with items and wards (if needed, always buy a few in the mid game, especially if you dont have a support or your support can't/don't ward)

Sorcerer's Shoes, these makes you abilities damage alot more. Making you hurt alot when you initiate a teamfight.

Then a sunfire cape for the passive damage, and some defence ofc.

So your core is philosophers stone, Heart of gold, Sorcerer's Shoes and Sunfire Cape

The rest is mostly situational.

The items in the cheat sheet is what i go in most games but depending on games you should consider some other items aswell.

You can buy a Warmog's Armor instead of Randuin's Omen if you want more Hit Points and you think armor is not needed that much in your game.

Against alot of AD:
Frozen heart, Thornmail or Randuin's Omen, these are good items for the situation, Randuin's Omen is really a good item on Malphite since it gives him even more control with it's active slow.

Against alot of AP:
Abyssal Scepter and Chalice of Harmony, Abyssal if you want some more damage on abilities and good MR, Chalice is good early game and makes you have all the mana that you will ever need, if you dont have mana regen runes get a chalice.

If you want even better chasing there are some good items for that when using malphite, Randuin's Omen for the active slow gives good chasing ability and some good defence, Shurelya's Reverie, is also good since it has hp cdr regen and it's active can make you and your team insane at chasing or running away^^

How to play

Malphite don't need creep kill or hero kill, but always use you abilities to control the fight and if you get kill don't fell bad you deserve it, but try to make sure that you ad carry the kill when you can.

When in lane use you Q to harras and to secure the kill by slowing them for your team.

Use ultimate when there is a good situation for it, meaning initiate with it, or sometimes you can just make sure your team get a kill.

Try and remember to use W before using ultimate and also try and use it before your E for more damage.

Make them have a hard time in lane but dont overextend.
