Summary.
I'm hoovering around the 1300 elo range (in game name Joobieo). First odd I'd like to say in season 1 I went 34-17 66.7 percent Winning ratio with malz in ranked.
In season two I'm currently at a 69 percent Winning ratio with malz in ranked and I thought I'd share how I'm able to do well with this guy.
Here is what you're going to do.
* Buy either a

* Take Middle Lane *
* Don't waste your mana on the enemy champion *
*

* Stay passive and farm your lane hardcore UNTIL you have your Catalyst the Protector and your Sorc Boots *
* Once you have these two, THEN start poking against the mid champion *
* Once you have Rod of Ages, you should be able to dominate your lane *
Once you do these things, the jungler should be able to gank your lane and you'll pick up a free kill due to your combo and your suppress ( ult ).
Once lanning phase is over you'll have so much farm you will be a huge factor with team fights ( Just make sure you have a good position ), which is where Malz shines due to his Silence, Suppress and his Void Zone which deals a ton of damage and people forget how much damage it does.
Quick fun guide, enjoy.
The only two item flip flops are these.
If your on a tanky team ( Meaning more than one tank is on your team ) . Then buy a

If your on a standard team with only one tank or tanky person on it go for the

Mark = Standard for any AP carry.
Seals = More Mana Regen = More lane sustain = more farm !
Glyhps = More CDR the more often you'll be using your ult MID / END game. Almost every team fight you should have your ult up for that squisy on their team.
Quints = More AP standard for any AP carry.

During team fights Malz can make or break a team fight here is how.
* Try to target the squisy carry on their team with your
Malefic Visions +
Nether Grasp Combo , WHEN THEY ARE OUT OF POSITION.
If you're able to land this combo you will either kill or take away 70% of their health with this combo and after you land this your team should be able to finish the champion from there you will have a 4 v 5 advantage.

Farming with Malzahar is one of the easiest things in the game, possibly the top farmer in the game at the moment.
Use
Malefic Visions when the minion is hoovering around 15% health and then auto attack the minion, if done correctly the minion should die. Once you get this maxed you will be able blow through the minion wave extremely fast and really easily. Don't waste your mana early on with trying to harass the opposing champion, this will only hurt your mid / late game because you will be missing easy CS.
Due to Malzahar's extreme speed in pushing the minion wave using little mana you will be pushing your lane hardcore even though it seems as if you're only last hitting which is true. But against many of the other AP's its going to push the wave more towards their tower.
What I suggest you do is ward both sides of the river after you buy boots.
The number one issue I see with people farming extremely well in their lane is they forget how hard they are pushing that lane, and for junglers you are an easy kill, especially with Malzahar who doesn't have a escape ability expect his silence.
