Master Yi Build
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
This is an Ability Power-way of Master Yi. I had an idea long before, about an AP Yi, back when I first got him as a champion. (a couple of months ago) Since then, I have been making this build, masteries, spells, items, etc. And, eventually, I've made this build. So, here it is then.
Lots of people play Master Yi, the AS/AD way. I agree, an AS/AD Yi is a very good carry, and a nice champion-destroyer. But, 60% of people who play Yi, don't look what his skills say. (Like meditate, for instance, they don't know that it gives 300 ar + mr at lv.5 when Yi is channeling) If you want to be a master of a hero, you've gotta know pretty much everything about him. And you have to have played him in lots of ways. (Like an AP Ashe, or an AP Warwick, as nooby as it sounds)
After lots of thought and 200+ games through different accounts (for different levels, to ensure that this build is also good for newbies, as Yi costs 450 IP so, is unlockable after 3 - 4 games) I came to the conclusion of the following advantages and disadvantages:
Some hell of a damage with Q and some really low cooldown (around 4 - 5 seconds) with the runes.
Able to do Triple/Quadra/Pentakills if Alpha Strike used correctly, at lv.18.
Able to tank with W, if enemy has no disabler. (Xin Xhao, or Taric for example)
Squishy at low-levels.
Needs advanced knowledge for last-hitting, as the items' build is very expensive.
Players following this guide, need lots of games, so as to judge when and where to buy and which items.
Cannot jungle, if things go wrong. (Some unlucky deaths, cost you an underleveling, for instance)
I have one rule, at this build. MASTER YI NEVER JUNGLES, ESPECIALLY AN ABILITY POWER YI. Your Alpha Strike, can provide a really good way of farming creeps, plus, a hit at the enemy champion.
For this build, the best lane for Yi is Middle. And that is because your items' build is very expensive plus, you need to level up as soon as possible, for you to be useful to your team. So, at all costs, try to get Middle lane or, if not, try going with a champion that doesn't last-hit easily. (Nunu for example, for his low atk.spd)
For Master Yi, I recommend 4 spells.
1.Exaust (Provides a getaway chance if ganked, and/or enables your team, at 5v5 mid, to catch an enemy champion and kill them.)
2.Ignite (For champions like Fiddlesticks or Taric who heal on their skills. With this, it will be like they're doing nothing, just sitting there, waiting for you to kill them.)
3.Clarity (This one is the one I wholeheartedly recommend, as in early game, Yi has a too low Mana Pool. This will ensure the extra mana you need to rape the enemy champions.)
4.Teleport (A very useful spell, if you eventually manage to get hold of the mid lane.)
The two I would mostly recommend, are Clarity and Teleport.
Use Teleport to get to your lane. Then play defensively, casting Alpha Strike on creeps to kill them when it's not on cd. (cooldown) When your Teleport refreshes, recall, take items and then use it again to go at your lane. That way, Teleport can serve as a timer, for your help on when to recall.
Runes for AP Master Yi should be for atk.spd and Cooldowns/Cooldowns per lv. I chose these runes for two reasons.
First of all, because Yi has very high cooldowns by himself. This way, the Runes of Focus, will grant him reduced cooldowns, almost reducing his Alpha Strike, from 7 to 4.5 seconds reuse delay.
What is more, Master Yi's E, Wuju Style, at lv.5 grants him 70 damage, when activated. The atk.spd runes would really prove useful for:
1. The situation where the champion you Alpha Strike'd didn't die and you need to kill them. Open your ult and your E and at lv.6 you should have around 1.1k atk.spd, with these runes.
2. You don't know how to last-hit creeps? The runes are here to make your life easier thus giving you more chances of last-hitting.
Master Yi leaps across the battlefield striking up to 4 enemies, dealing 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to each enemy with a 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60% chance to deal 400 bonus magic damage to minions.
Yi's Q and his most important skill, your bread and butter. With this, you will be farming minions, you will be stealing kills, catching getiing-away champions, and getting triple, quadra of even pentakills. So, you need to max it out first.
Try using Alpha Strike at the creep closest to the enemy champion. That way, you will get them to be struck from your strike plus, if the creep you have targeted dies before you exit the skill, you will appear on the last spot, where you used Alpha Strike instead of appearing in front of the creep that you targeted.
Master Yi channels, restoring 140 / 280 / 420 / 560 / 700 (+165% of ability power) health over 5 seconds. While channeling, Master Yi gains 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 armor and magic resistance.
Yi's W and your second most important skill. With this, you will be able to tank 5 summoners plus, two towers near the enemy Nexus, if no one stuns you, knocks you into air, or disables you in any way. A really great skill and also, can refill your HP from 100 to max, at lv.18.
Passive: Increases physical damage by 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35.
Active: Master Yi can activate this ability to double its effectiveness for 10 seconds, but this removes the passive bonus until Wuju Style becomes available again.
A really cool and useful skill of Yi. Use it wisely though, as at low levels it has low cooldown and you will be short on a big amount of damage during the time it is in cd.
Use this skill when taking down turrets or hunting down champions. This will grant you some little extra damage that sometimes can make the difference.
Increases Master Yi's movement speed by 40% and Attack Speed by 40 / 60 / 80%, and he becomes immune to all slowing effects for 6 / 9 / 12 seconds. Additionally, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns. (Assists reduce half of the base cooldown amount.)
A really cool ability of Yi. One can use it in various ways, if they know what it does.
1.As mentioned before, it grants speed and render's Yi immune to ALL SLOWING EFFECTS for the duration. So, it can be used for hunting down enemies, and/or getting away.
2."Killing a champion refreshed all of Master Yi's cooldowns."
If you're going for pentakills, it's best to use Highlander before you Alpha Strike as it will refresh your cooldowns to zero, if you get a kill. (Pretty likely as, when you are lv.18 full-gear and have 400+ AP, it hits 4 champions for 500 damage or even more!)
Not so much to say at this section, about Yi's Masteries. I have tried both, 0-21-9 and 0-9-21, ways of playing him though and can say that the 0-9-21 Nimbleness at Defence masteries' sequence is a really good one as, it gives you a more slight chance for a boost on speed, if dodging an attack.
The most complicated section of the AP Yi. And the most important factor whether you will be able to rape the enemy team or feed them to the point of having your team report you.
Start off, with aDoran's Ring. Unfortunately, there's no way to getHP Pots at the beginning so, be careful and play defensively until you getMeditate at least rank 2. Then, get one moreDoran's Ring. Then, get yourBoots of Speed, and after that, anotherDoran's Ring. Then, after you've farmed 1000 Gold, yourTear of the Goddess is up. After that, you need aPickaxe for 975 gold, to raise your damage count a little bit. After you farm a little bit more Gold, (around 1.5k) go for the second item of your final 6 items, aGuinsoo's Rageblade.
Since now, you should have around 5 - 6 kills (since the 25 min mark, that is). Your next item is aSheen, later to be followed from aNeedlessly Large Rod. YourNeedlessly Large Rod then, is to be turned to the most important item of this build, aRabadon's Deathcap. A huge kick of ability power which is the key item that will now render Yi invulnerable, when using Meditate and enabling him to literally tear pieces off enemy champions, with his Q. After that, the second most important item of this build, is theLich Bane. With this item, your next hit, after Q-ing or W-ing will tear a part off any enemy champion, as your meelee attack will damage any enemy for more than 200 damage.
A nice combo for you to use, when you have Lich Bane is.Meditate ->Meelee Attack ->Alpha Strike->Meelee Attack ->Wuju Style ->Meelee Attack
This way, u get 2 meelee attacks with 200 or more damage. After Lich Bane recharges, repeat the process if you have enough mana and your cds have refreshed.
If you still haven't finished the game and can afford to get some kills, go for aArchangel's Staff and then, after you get a secondTear of the Goddess, make yourManamune. Don't forget, after you complete your items, to purchaseElixirs of Brilliance,Elixirs of Agility,Elixirs of Fortitude and last but not least,Oracle's Elixirs if enemy has any type of stealthy champions (Even Teemo with his shrooms, or Shaco, with his Jacks) or if you suspect the enemy has planted wards.
Overall, this build is pretty nice. I'm sorry there are no tooltips on icons guys, I watched a video on how to put them on builds but, I guess I'm too nooby when it comes to making builds. (My first one, took 6 hours to make) Please don't troll it and try to go easy on me, with tips. I know there's much room for improvement. Thank you, for taking time and reading this build. I would be more thankful if you tried it, all of you Master Yi fans. Don't be shy to leave your scores below, and tell me if you found my build useful.
