Threats & Synergies
If you see Morgana consider switching off Naut, otherwise she's a massive threat that can cancel your hook and neutralize you very easily [your a very big target to hit], if you do lock against her then always take Banshee's first, after that its not as bad but she can still cancel the hook with her shield.
EKKO IS A CHEATER!..... no seriously his ult can completely stop your ult from hitting him and your hook can go right by too, try to avoid aiming for him before he uses his ult, otherwise he can root you easily and is just annoying to handle.
Fizz is Ekko but instead of cheating with his ult he cheats with his simple and much more frequent E, he can almost always dodge your ult and hook and you yourself make a good target for his ult if you do end up missing the hook, but if you do hit him then there's almost nothing he can do.
Be careful as a good Shaco's clone can be difficult to recognize and can still block your hook, if you hook the clone then you might as well say goodbye to your team before the fight has begun (if it hasn't already), especially watch out for wasting your ult. BUT! if you can hook the real Shaco while he's invisible then there's almost no reason for him to live.
Veigar can annihilate your dive with almost no effort so just avoid diving before his cage has been used, he can also burst you down from a sizable distance even with your strong tanking power, I'd say avoid locking Naut if you see him. But like many other champs, once you do hook him successfully then there's little reason for him to be able to get away.
Annie can stun your hook dive while it's happening and while the precision needed is insane you still need to watch out for it and her e can do it more easily however if you hook HER instead of her teammates then she'll be stunned and unable to use it. Just try to get the upper hand and hook before she can do her ult comb.
Yasuo is the bane of Nautilus along side Morgana. he can cancel every ability besides your passive and w with his wind wall and your a very easy target for his nado stun. Avoid ulting or hooking before the wall is out, after the wall pop your ult or hook before his finisher happens.
Caitlyn's traps are annoying especially when they root you mid hook. build anti basic attack items and block the ult for your team using your W [or stun her], otherwise she isn't horrible to handle but just watch the traps.
Don't let her pokes scare you. If she wants to dodge your hook while there's nothing in-between the 2 of you then she has to blink, once you hook or ult her your ADC can take her down no problem. P.S ALWAYS EAT THE ULT!!
Blitz is a threat to your ADC, not you! You WANT to get hooked by Blitz especially when he's going to hit your ADC. However still avoid it and hook him like you would anyone else and he really can't do anything to you.
Braum is a problem not because he has a giant shield the size of the great wall, but because his huge body can eat your hook (and he will if he cares for his team at all). In the event you do hook him then your likely going to die and he could end up negating much more damage than would be preferred.
A good Draven is a nightmare, BUT! YOU ARE A NIGHTMARE FOR HIM!! he suffers the same problem Ashe has except with his movement speed it is [unlikely] possible for him to dodge the hook. Like everyone else once he's hooked he should almost always die. the only issue your going to have against him is if he's actually smart and sits back and farms rather than trying to fight early.
Ezreal isn't horrible against you but isn't a walk in the park either. His typical combo can hit you very easily and very often and he can avoid your typical combo very often. The only real advantage you have is at 6 because he can't dodge your ult, and once it collides he's an easy hook target.
Jhin is not a big issue and you can tank his ult, try to bait the last shot with your W so your ADC doesn't have to feel it. If he wants to live through a hook he'll have to flash, and remember to bait the traps for the ADC.
Purely dependent on how good the Jinx is, if she plays it passive then your in for a long lane fight, if she plays the poke game then aim to punish her as early as possible. Just don't let her pokes scare you it's when she plays it passive with no poke that you should be scared.
Not a big threat until she hits 6 since she can easily avoid your hook and stall your ult out. She is one of few where you cant survive poke fights, either play passive and punish or push constant early pressure with hooks. Late game you can't expect to hook her but once you do she's useless just like everyone else.
I don't know where to put Karma, the thing to fear is her insanely large skill-shot, but it really isn't that bad and you can afford to tank it constantly. The W is good but as long as it's on you and not your ADC you can just hit W and take it. But you counter her pretty harshly otherwise... I'd rate her a ? if there was one
Lulu can counter everything about you with her ult, it'll stun you mid hook, give your target a huge survivability boost, and makes you almost useless when used properly. Her W and E are also both very annoying to handle, just pray that you can hook her at the right time and your team can burst her down.
The E should be baited before hooking, besides that it comes down to the Lucian, just do business as normal.
Lux is something I see people saying isn't bad for Naut but I disagree, it mainly depends on the Lux and if she can land her Q on you mid hook (sometimes she can hit you before your hook collides). Besides that you can eat everything she tosses and she doesn't have that much capability to survive a hook, even without your team you can beat her out in lane.
MF is not a threat, while she does have one of the highest DPS AOE ults in the game it can be canceled very easily with a simple hook or counter ult. Just don't let her Q bounce to your ADC and your gonna be golden.
Her late game healing output can be insane alongside the movement speed buff and the strong AOE with her ult. She can be a nightmare for any hook support, punish her weak early game and any early game pokes she goes for. Expect a lot of problems to come from her later though.
Should you happen to be playing non draft picks then the matchup is very....weiiirrd. It comes down to whoever hooks or ults first and that's literally it, but he can pull you out of position pretty harshly so watch out
Pyke while considered to be the best melee support in the game isn't actually a problem for a Naut, you can hook him out of his W and cancel his hook with yours. The E is literally a free flash but it stops him from doing his Q-E combo. just bait and eat the hooks and your ADC "should" be able to do the rest.
Wait out the shield OR if you can make it tank your E then hook her! She is still a threat because her poke is way too much even for your W, just play carefully and go for big punishes while you KNOW her shield is on CD.
Senna... I have a hard time placing her. Powerful pokes that can be tanked with a simple W, but they're sustained enough to still apply pressure, she and her teammates can be hooked out of the mist. The AOE root can be tanked. Just overall isn't hard to go against but is still annoying.
Don't be scared by the Q just punish with your hook! the ult is powerful late game but you still don't have to worry about it. As a whole she is a very matchup that can be hooked easily.
Soraka suffers the same problems that Sona does but her Q is an actual problem alongside the very powerful silence. The matchup is purely dependent on the ADC's, if yours counters theirs then pull Soraka, if even then pull the bigger threat for the moment, if yours is countered then pull the ADC.
Trist is a huge problem for any melee support [besides Yasuo] however if you can catch her after she pops the jump then you can deal insane amounts of damage, otherwise play it very carefully and call a gank or two before fighting for real.
Yuums isn't a threat however who she's supporting will be, if you cant burst them down then just wear Yuumi's manna down and then engage while they have no heals.
if he hooks you then...FREE DIVE YAYY!... buuut if he hooks you correctly then its pretty bad, however its rare that a thresh can do too much to you, just play it normal against him.
Her plants are the absolute worst, especially with your slow movement, watch out for the E and then hook or just play it safe, either way works.
Vayne isn't a problem because of the true damage but because of her dash making it hard to land a hook, most Vaynes aren't dumb enough to use it aggressively against a hook support but if they do then your job is going to be very easy. However if she doesn't then try to get up close and force the dash then hook.
Xayah can root you at will almost always and her ult makes for a powerful counter to almost anything, her poke is very powerful and is in-general very hard to handle. You can however hook her fairly easily but once the stun ends watch out for the ohk [one hit ko] from her ult.
Twitch is very easy to handle... doesn't get any simpler than that, he's so squishy you can out dps him in a 1v1 early game and late game you can pull him and ult him at will without any problem.
A good Ahri will almost always charm you before your hook collides thus stopping the hook. BUT you can still ult her very effectively, just watch the balls and ult and your fine.
LeBlanc is an absolute monster if she gets a good mid or early game, apply pressure early and hope that she cant get 2 items for a long time, otherwise your only option is to land your ult or a very insane hook... ideally without dying instantly.
Your going to have an easy time against Zoe more than 70% of the time... the other % is a nightmare, on one hand she is very easy to predict and hook, ult or even just walk up to, on the other the sleep is irritating and can halt anyone in their tracks. Just play normally and take the shots with your W.
Zilean isn't that bad however his passive can get the opposing ADC ahead in XP, otherwise the MS increase is irritating for any hook champ.
Aurelion is very easy to counter however his passive in lane can be annoying, just be aggressive on him and there's nothing he can do till 6
Any good Heimer can be a HUUUGE problem for any melee support and especially so for a Naut, the turrets deal huge dps and everything else is massive poke, otherwise if you CAN hook him away from the turrets then your set.
Caitlyn makes for an excellent teammate since her traps and net go very well with your hook and root, along side the sustained damage and passive comboing with yours it's hard to lose many matchups with a Cait.
Once you root someone Ezreal can spam everything onto them without any problems at all... that's really all that needs to be said lol. Your the pole, the enemy is the bait and Ez is the fish.
If there's one thing Draven likes it's a still target that can't punish him, you get this guy fed and you'll be on your way to an easy win. His ult combo's super well with yours and your passive and in general the aggressive playstyle goes very well with yours.
Kai'Sa is strangely a very bad ADC for Naut, her ult doesn't go with your kit at all, her best comboing ability is her W. However if you do manage to get a Kai'Sa who can work with you then the passive combo's fairly well [I didn't mention this earlier because most Kai'Sa's I find don't seem to act on this]
