I have seen lot of rivens dps, yeah do cool dmg, but not enough nocturne and ther chars are very better dps than riven.
Another problem if that all our skill need to be too near the enemy to use less our ulti.
Then if u do riven of tank you will have good power to be in line, and enough life and resis for be the tank of ur party.

The runes are the tipically for offtank in my opinion.

9 Mark of desolation
9 Seal of resillence
9 Greather griph of warding
3 Quintesence of fortitude

We will really need this runes at start of game to resis in our line, if not we will need go heal too many times.

Masteries are 8/21/1.
Why this 1 in regen 2% life?. Just cause dont have another place better to put it. No magic skill do non-viable do 9/21/0.

Well all the games are different u cant do same set in all games in some u will need to do first magic def or get more armor faster... etc.
But the set is(only at end of game, and if u have enough money):

-Sunfire cape
-Mercury threads
-Warmog
-Force of nature
-Trinity
-Atma impaler

You can change sunfir for another stuff like raduin.
If u need more attack and no enough defense change sunfir for bloodthrister or black creaver.
And if u need more magic def buy hexdrinker after giant to get some extra dmg and more magic resist and after buy negatron cloak.


NOTE : IN THE TOP OF TOPIC WHERE IS THE SET U WILL NOT SEE SUNFIRE CAPE, ITS ONLY WHY U NEED TO SELL DORAN TO BUY IT, THEN UR STATS WILL CHANGE AND GET 4500 LIFE AND 170 armor AND UR DMG NEAR 220.

You need to maximize R>Q>W>E but u should give 2 points to E before maximize W, it will help u to run away in some hard situations.
You need to maximize R first cause it maximize all your skills power.
Now the description of all the skills.
Abilities:

Passive – Runic Blade: Riven’s abilities charge her blade, causing her to do bonus damage on her next autoattack. Riven can store up to 3 charges, but only expends one at a time.

Broken Wings: Riven steps forward and lashes out in a series of powerful sword slashes. This ability can be reactivated up to 3 times in a short period.
1st Use/2nd Use: Deals damage to a small area in front of her.
3rd Use: Jumps into the air and slams downward, causing a larger impact nova that deals damage and knocks nearby enemies back.

Ki Shout: Riven damages and stuns nearby enemies.

Valor: Riven dashes forward and gains a shield for a short duration.

Blade of the Exile (Ultimate): Riven’s sword reforms, giving her a percentage multiplier on her total attack damage, extended range on her damaging abilities and basic attacks and the ability to use Wind Slash once.

Wind Slash: While Blade of the Exile is active, Riven can reactivate the ability to emit a large shockwave that deals damage to all units hit based on their missing life.

Riven's pasive its not really good giving near 15 dmg + % that is near 15-25 dmg.

In combat ever try to do:
R > Q > autoattack > W >autoattack > Q > autoattack > E > autoattack > Q > autoattack > R
If u are not near the enemys or they are running of u, u should make Q > E the first to try to get him.

This char only can go solo top for ranked games. Maybe are another solo tops better but riven is eally good havent many problems with anothers solo tops without ranged.
If you play 2vs1 in your lane just defend in tower you wont have any problem to do it if u are enough skill, use u stun when u can to dont let the down ur life.
To farm in you line just use Q and autoattack to do last hit and down minions life. You never NEVER should use your W to farm if the enemy see it maybe attack you and you will not can defend.
You need to be patient ever need to make autoattack dont use skill so fast, if u do it u will do really hard dmg.
You can gank really well with riven just wait in the grass charge 2 Q, move fast with E put back him and move him near ur ally with the last q and when he moves out stun with W.
Ever try to help middle with blue buff you do it so fast, and it will be nice for him.
