Runes: Electro or spellbook
Build: Rush Mercs or rush banshee second - only if the lux player is good
Reasoning: Lux is very hard matchup for Zoe, due to the fact:
1. all her spells outrange zoes spell, its very difficult to land q on her without getting poked by her e or q as zoe has telegraphed movement when she walks with q.
2. Even if zoe manages to land an e on lux. she can put down her e on the path zoe is about to throw her q from and slow her down before the q can reach lux, and can negate alot of the dmg with her ignite.
3. Lux can constantly keep zoe pushed in with her r and e combo on the lane, preventing her from roaming and going to river fights - the place zoe shines the most.
Lane: pre 6 look to keep lux pushed in by long range qs. Always aim your q from outside your wave so that even if lux pokes you with her e, she doesn't hit the wave letting you get the push.
If lux misuses her q in lane, immediatlly ignite her and run her down the lane with q and passive autos - even if you dont kill her you will chunk her hp out enough to force her to base or be prone to a gank. letting you have lane prio to help your jungler.
post 6. if the lux is smart she will keep you pushed in with her r and e combo, there's not much you can do but ward middle of the lane to see where she roams and clear waves fast as possible.
Never r forwards in this lane as lux can combo you easily, chunking ur entire hp bar forcing you to back, making u lose tempo.
mid to late game zoe can easily one shot lux if she land an e from the fog of war - but good lux's usually play around their teammates making it hard to do this.
Your gameplan should be to always have lane prio and get your jungler ahead as zoe cant do much against lux.
Malzahar
Runes: Spellbook or electro
Build : Standard build
Reasoning: Malzhar is an anti mage champ
1. His spellshield passive makes it difficult to land an e on him from the fog of war
2. Can constantly keep zoe pushed in
3. Cant play aggressively post 6 if his r is up.
4. silence can prevent you from following up with second q if you put him or someone else to sleep.
Lane: Pre 6, this matchup is winnable for zoe if you play hyper aggresive with short range q's and passive autos, and you can even kill him, or chunk him to force recall, giving you lane prio.
post 6 the matchup becomes harder as after he gets lost chapter, he can keep zoe perma pushed in and you cannot play aggresive as he can chunk ur hp with his ult. Keep track of his jungler.
Tp is amazing in this matchup to match his constant push.
Zoe is the better skirmisher so look to make early river fights when u get prio.
Fizz
Runes: Aery with resolve - take heal or barrier if you uncomfortable.
Build: MR is a good rush into this matchup - you dont need mercs, sitting on mantle cloak is enough.
Reasoning: Fizz is not as hard as the other matchups in this tier, but still is annoying.
1. Fizz e makes this matchup tricky for zoe
2. He can easily kill zoe from 100 to 0 post 6
3. Very hard to side lane against mid to late game.
Lane: Slow push wave, avoid long range q's into the wave. Constantly proc aery with q auto q auto. Remember, short range q's do more dmg early than long range if paired with zoe's passive auto.
ALWAYS hold your e in this matchup, never look to use it if fizz has his e, because if you do fizz can easily jump you and outrade you.
A key trick in this matchup is that you can always hit your e on fizz when he is q'ing onto you so always aim your e behind you as fizz is q'ing onto you as he cannot use his e during the animation. Another thing is that Fizz's big E is telegraphed and u can aim your e as its about to end.
Post 6, this matchup becomes very hard, thats why you need atleast one mr component, to help you survive his lvl 6 all in as if he lands his r onto you, you will die.
You can use your r to avoid his r and more importantly to avoid his e dmg.
Zoe has better waveclear than fizz. keep him pushed in and look to roam. if fizz uses his e to waveclear you can punish him during that short window.
Mid to late game after you get banshee or zhonya. it becomes harder for fizz to kill you specially if your near your teammates.
Morgana
Runes: Electro or spellbook with gathering storm over scorch.
Build: Standard - mercs if enemy is cc heavy alongside morg
Reasoning:
1. Morgana can keep zoe pushed in with w.
2. Morgana e complelety negates zoe e
3. Zoe's telegraphed movement with q and r , makes it easy for morg to land q.
Lane: You can never kill a good morgana in lane, only hope is to match her push and keep her pushed in. Even if she misses her q she can still survive your trade with her e.
Look for skirmishes in river with ur jungler,
Mid to late game poke with q first over e first playstyle if morg is near as it usually baits her e out.
Don't underestimate her dmg after her first item as she can easily kill you if she land both her r and q on you.
Anivia
Runes: Electro or spellbook
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Anivia q and w makes it difficult to follow up on an e.
2. Anivia can nullify zoe by keeping her pushed in
3. Zoe's telegraphed q and r movement make it easy for anivia to land her q.
4. Anivia is very hard to kill due to her passive and her build.
Lane: Pre 6, zoe can get control over this lane by keeping Anivia pushed in. Look for e if she misses her q.
Post 6, if the anivia is smart she will use her r to keep zoe pushed in. You cannot do much expect match her push.
Anivia scales better, is tankier and can w her teamates to interrupt your e, try to get early lead pre 6 with zoes much better skirmishing power and close game out early.
Syndra
Runes: Electro
Build: Rush Mercs - only if the syndra is playing well.
Reasoning:
1. Syndra can constantly poke zoe with her q as she goes for cs or trying to land q.
2. Syndra can prevent zoe from following up her sleep with q with her q e stun.
3. However. zoe is much better than syndra early game and can easily kill her if she misuses her e.
Lane: go for short range q trades and e trades. Always bait out her q by faking cs or pretending to q from the fog of war. With ignite you can run her down the lane and chunk her or even kill her.
Mid to late game the matchup becomes harder for zoe as if zoe gets hit by 1 stun from syndra she will die.
Naafiri
Rune: Aery (can take sudden impact and Ultimate hunter in secondary)
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Naafiris dog and her w make it hard to land e on her, but the dogs also make it easier to land q poke on naafiri from splash dmg
2. Good waveclear
3. Better side laner
Lane: Naafiri usually outpushes zoe in lane early game due to her q spam, its more important to match her push with long range q's on the minion then to poke her with short range q - for lane prio.
Stand outside of your wave so naafiri has to decide between poking you with her q or pushing the lane. If she ever misses her q punishes her with short range q's.
Pre 6 she cant get on you easily, but post 6, you need to save your e for her r as naafiri is locked into her animation when using it preventing her from dodging it with w or e.
mid to late game the dogs become more annoying when trying to snipe from long range e.
Look to keep side lanes pushed and make picks using your e.
LeBlanc
Runes: Electro
Build:Mercs rush (only if lb is good)
Reasoning:
1. LB has very good harass early game
2. Even if you land your e on her as she w's onto you, good lbs wont w back immediately to reduce the q dmg and most of the time they can get off their e and q combo off while drowsy is going off making it very easy for her to outrade zoe.
3. Side laning against lb is very difficult as she can easily dive zoe
Lane: You can start e lvl 1 if your comfortable and e her as she w's onto you, easily outrading her.
Dont stand near minions so she doesnt get both push and poke off when w'ing always stand to the side of the lane.
Zoe can easily e leblanc as she w's in but dont stop moving if you hit ur e as she can still follow up with her e and q during drowsy.
Pre 6 zoe can run down leblanc with ignite if she misses her e and her w is on cd.
This matchup becomes a 100% more easier after mercs.
Viktor
Runes: Electro with taste of blood
Build : Standard
Reasoning:
1. Viktor outranges zoe
2. Viktor w makes its difficult to follow up on e with q.
3. However, even with w up zoe can kill viktor due to her nimbus cloak speed buff if she gets lucky with w drops.
Lane: Keep wave pushed in and always punish him when his q is down with short range q.
post 6 its very easy to poke viktor with short range r q, as he is immobile, but only do it from fog of war as viktor can w the position you r'd from.
Zoe is much better early game and in river fights.
Irelia
Runes: Aery (with resolve if your prefer)
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Irelia is very mobile with her q, however her q movement is usually predictable so its easy to aim poke onto her with long range q's.
2. Irelia can easily kill zoe if zoe misses her e once.
3. You cannot kill good irelia players in lane.
4. Zoe cannot survive side lane against irelia
Lane: Most irelias try to go for lvl 1 q dive onto you after qing the first 3 minions of the wave, you can start e and usually outtrade her if she does this with minion dmg and autos.
beyond lvl 2 this lane is very hard, stay far back and farm from long range q's do not stand near low hp minons as irelia can easily follow up with her e. However if irelia misses her E ONCE you can punish her hard pre 6 by playing aggresive.
Aim your q to low hp dying ally minons as most irelia q onto them. Would not reccomend trying to hit e this way as if it misses irelia can immediatly jump onto you without her e and kill you.
Akshan
Runes: Electro ( celerity over scorch)
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. E very hard to aim onto akshan when he is grappling onto a wall
2. Can punish zoe heavily if she misses her e, by sticking onto her.
3. Zoe can burst him 100 to 0 easily after 2 items from a long range q.
Lane: Do not put a point into q or e until you see what akshan put a point in lvl 1. If he put in q you also put in q. If he put a point in e instead and grapples onto you, bubble him with e lvl 1.
Keep akshan pushed in, look for short range q trade when his e is down. always save your bubble for when he gets on you i would not recommend to aim ur e while he is swinging.
Keep akshan pushed in so he cant roam, and mid to late game always be careful when side laning when he isnt on the map - only push side waves do not side lane into akshan.
Kassadin
Runes: Aery
Build: You can go standard or do this build with cull start into sheen rush followed by standard build.
Reasoning:
1. Kassadin is anti mage champ, alot of the poke zoe will do wont have much impact, but if you rush sheen your spellblade autos do physical dmg making lane easier.
2. He can easily kill you post 6.
3. He is very weak and immobile pre 6, and can be pushed into his tower constantly giving you prio.
4. Difficult to side lane against
Lane: slow push lane, look for short q auto q auto trades onto him and look to deny as many minons as you can. You can easily dive him with ur jungler lvl 3 if you poked him to low hp.
post 6 lane is harder, always hold your e for when he uses his r giving u a short window to use it. If you miss ur e he can jump you with his r chunking ur hp.
Orianna
Runes: Electro
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Orianas ability have similar range to zoe's abiliy, making it whichever champs better at trading better.
Lane: Long range q onto minons lvl 1 and look to follow up poke with short range q onto her when the miinon wave is pushing into her.
Its not easy to aim q or e onto oriana with her w speed buff and e shield. Post 6 be careful of her ulting u if you r forward.
In side lane zoe is better as she can snipe Orianna from walls.
Yasuo
Runes: Aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. windwall makes it difficult to land e onto yasuo and he can use it mid to late game to help his teammates too.
2. mobile with e makes it difficult to aim q and e onto him but, his e movement locks him into animation giving you a short window to e him before he can w.
3. Zoe passive goes through windwall and zoe can curve her q around the wall.
Lane: If he starts e lvl 1, you also start e and bubble him if he gets on you. If he starts q, you also start q. look to slow push him and keep poking him with autos and short range q when he comes to cs.
After lvl 3, do not use ur e until he uses his windwall or is locked in his e dash animation. Dont stand next to minons and kite him as he dashes forward. If he wastes his w the matchup becomes much easier and you can play more aggressive.
Side laning is difficult against yasuo
Hwei
Runes: Electro
Build: Standard (mercs good rush)
Reasoning:
1. Hwei is really good at bullying short to mid range mages like zoe
2. Short cooldowns makes it difficult to punish him easily.
3. Can prevent zoe from following up on bubble with ew or qe.
4. Very squishy and immobile zoe can burst him down from a long range q.
Lane: Long range q to spam push him in, short range q to poke him while the wave is pushing into him.
If your confident u can run him down with ignite nimbus, and dodge his e with zoes movemnt speed buff from w, allowoing you to chunk him down forcing him to back or even kill him.
Post 6, pressing r infront of his face is risky as he can follow it up with his own r and combo your hp bar.
Side laning against hwei is not difficult mid late game as zoe can look for long range q over side lane walls.
Ahri
Runes: Electro - cleanse if you dont like the matchup
Build: Standard - banshee good buy.
Reasoning:
1. Ahri spell have similar range to zoe's making it an even trading matchup.
2. Very easy to side step ahri e with w move speed and the second throw of ahri q.
3. Her ult dashs are very telegraphed u can usually aim your e to where she is going to dash to.
Laning: Standard lane into ranged, push early waves with long range q and harass with short range q and look to chunk her with ignite and passive auto to force back or even kill.
Punish her when she misses her e heavily.
Annie
Rune: Electro
Build: Standard (mercs good buy)
Reasoning:
1. Annie has slightly longer range than zoe with her q, but zoe outranged the rest of her spells.
2. Can easily burst zoe with R if she portals forward
Lane: Standard push wave into her and only poke her if your wave is larger or she doesnt have her passive up. If she doesnt have her passive always play aggresive in her face.
Skill matchup mostly
Galio
Runes: Aery with gathering storm
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Before first item zoe can actually kill galio, and bully him hard in lane but afterwards its very hard for zoe too kill him
Lane:
Standard melee matchup, slow push wave and poke with short range q early game.
Track his jungler as galio has really good gank setup, and constantly keep him pushed in to prevent him from roaming.
Its hard for him to kill you solo unless he goes full ap, then its very easy to bully him in lane.
Mel
Rune: electro
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. All her spells outrange zoes
2. Her W reflects your e
3. Can keep her distance from zoe with her e slow and root similar to lux
Laning: Standard ranged lane with hard push early paired with trading with minion advantage.
You dont need to land your e to kill mel, she is vety squishy constantly bullying her with short range q and auto will be enough and if she uses her w yo reflect a q, immediatly ignite her and run her down with ur e.
Mid to late game she can be very annoying as if she reflexts one bubble onto you you will die from her combo.
Diana
Runes : Aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning: Personally I dont find this matchup hard.
1. Zoe can constantly poke diana witth aery and q.
2. Dianas dash is a straight line making it easy for zoe to follow up with her e
3. Zoe can dodge diana ult with her ult if she times it right.
Laning: standard melee matchup early lane.
Stand to the left of ur minion wave so she has to decidid between q'ing you or the wave.
Match her q poke with our own q.
Never throw your e unless ur certain it will hit, always save it for when she dashes onto you.
Sidelane can be annoying but you can judt farm from range with q and r.
Cassiopeia
Runes : Electro or aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Cassiopeia has a shorter range than zoe.
2. Zoe has better waveclear
Lane: standard range lane expect you can bully cassiopeia early with short range q instead of hard pushing.
Careful post 6 using your r as she can ult u instantly if u r infront of her.
You can easily bully her by keeping her pushed in and going for short q r to poke her down.
Lissandra
Runes: Electro or aery
Build: Standard (mercs optional)
Reasoning:
1. Lissandra has shorter range compared to zoe
2. Zoe can easily bully her with short range qs
3. Her ult has amazing gank setup tho
Laning: Do not stand opposite to her next to minons so she does not get off her long rangr q splash damage on you.
Very easy to poke her with q and keep her pushed in giving u prio most of lane.
Katarina
Runes: Aery (exhaust if your uncomfortable)
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Its VERY EASY for zoe to bully katarina the entire lane phase with short range q.
2. Zoe can keep katarina pushed in to prevent her from roaming.
Laning: never use ur e in this lane until katarina uses her e. Good katarinas will always react to it in time. Keep her pushed in and dont let her roam. Onyl way kat can get a lead in this lane is if you insanely mess up or gets kills of roams.
Mid late game katarina can 100 to 0 you in side lane even if you land your e. Keep ur distance and farm from afar.
Zed
Runes: Aery (heal or barrier if uncomfortable)
Build: Standard (zhonya second amazing)
Reasoning;
1. Zoe can bully zed hard early game with short range q.
2. Post 6 zoe can e behind her self and dodge zed q with her r to escape or even kill him
Lane: play aggresive in this lane, zed cannot kill you if always hold your e. Punsih zed heavily if he misses his w, try to side step the second shuriken from his w or stand inside minion wave to lower its dmg.
Post 6 never use ur e if he has r. Always e behind yourself if he ults you.
After he gets spellshield it becomes very hard to kill him
Aurora
Runes: Electro or aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Short range mage makes it easy for zoe to bully her.
2. Can W to dodge e
Lane:
Short range poke into her and try to side step her q she will mostly try to hit it when ur going for cs.
Its very easy to dodge her q and e with nimbus cloak speed buff, if she ever uses her w randomly ignite her and run her down with short range q and passive autos to chunk her hp.
Mid late game she can burst u with q and e easily. make picks around ur team.
Aurelion Sol
Runes: Electro
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Zoe can constantly harass aurelion in laning phase
2. Easy to hit e due to his q putting him in place and his e being predictable
3. Can run you down if u miss e.
Lane:
Push him in and harass him with short range q. You have much better early lane then him. Constantly harass him with short range q, and look for e when he is locked in q animation.
Very squishy champion can kill him lvl 3 if he is around 60 to 70%
Qiyana
Runes: Aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Qiyana has the weakest lvl 1 to 3 for an ad assassin.
2. Very easy to poke qiyana and her e is telegraphed making it easy to bubble her.
3. Qiyanas only engage; E is very short range compared to other assasin allowing zoe to constantly harass her from afar
Lane:
Slow push and constantly harass her lvl 1 to lvl 3 with short range q.
After lvl 3 only e her when she jumps u. if u cant time ur e with her e, only e after she uses her second w. If qiyana uses both of her q's in lane she has zero kill pressure for 6 seconds so use that to harass her alot.
Qiyana is very good at long trades compared to other assassin, if u miss ur e once she can latch onto you and even kill you lvl 3.
You can buffer your r in the short window of qiyanas r push, allowing you to avoid its damage.
Side lane is not as hard as other assassin just avoid pushing when you dont see her, she cant get on you easily without yommu.
Remember Qiyana gives up damage for 6 seconds everytime she uses her w, to engage instead of e.
Sylas
Runes: Aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Melee champion zoe can easily harass
2. His e makes him latch onto you in a straight line allowing you to e him.
3. He cant make good use of your ult.
Lane:
Start e if sylas starts e otherwise start q. Alwats save bubble for when he e's you or misses it. Once you e sylas after he latchs onto you with his e, create distance and harass him with q and autos. Sylas is not good at long trades.
However, he can still kill you after he gets his first item even if he misses both his q and e.
Veigar
Runes: Electro
Build: Standard (can take cleanse)
Reasoning:
1. Veigar heavily lacks damage early game, very easy to poke out.
2. Zoe will always have lane priority in laning phase against him alllowing you to play aggreisve in river and against his jungler
Laning:
Keep veigar pushed in and harass with short range q. Always track enemy jungler as his e is very good at setting up ganks. If he does cage u do not panic usually they stand still after they cage you making it easy to land a bubble. Look for skirmishes in river as your much better at them then him.
Vladimir
Runes: Standard
Build: Standard (oblivion orb good buy early)
Reasoning:
1. Lacks damage early making it very easy for zoe to outrade.
2. Lacks waveclear early
3. Zoe is better at skirmishing early then him.
Lane:
Kepe him pushed in. You can hide you e by using ur second q as soon as ur press e to hit him before he can w. You don't need to land e to kill him most of the time. Careful of his lvl 6 all in, specially if he has ghost. Late game he is much better, close out the game with ur early lead.
Yone
Runes: Aery ( or electro)
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Yone has a very weak early game, its very easy to harass him
2. Yone E can cancel out zoe e.
Laning:
Slow push lane and keep harassing him everytime he steps up to cs. His q locks him into an animation allowing you to land bubble easily on him. If you time it correctly you can r his r. Usually doesnt matter if he cancles your bubble with his e as its his main tool to dish large damage on you.
Avoid pushing deep into him in side lane, only push in waves near tower and look for picks mid.
Akali
Runes: Aery
Build: Standard
Reasoning:
1. Very easy to harass akali early game, her e is telegraphed allowing you to e her if she follows up.
2. Akali has such high mr paired with dorans shield makes it very hard to poke her out.
Lane:
Slow push into harass, dont stand in minion wave to avoid her qing you and the wave at the same time. Short range q into her face. Never throw your e in this lane at all, unless she has already used her e. Main damage of akali comes from her e. Post 6 she can ult inbetween her e dash, so always bubble behind urself.
Sorcs rush is not a bad idea
Qiyana
Im not gonna explain any synergies.
Zoe works with any early game ad junglers or junglers that can follow up on zoes pick with her e, or help her set up her e.

Zoes Game Plan
I am assuming you know the basic abilitys and their descriptions when you read this so here we go
Zoes game plan:
Zoe is an early game lane bully, that does not scale as well as other mages into late game. Your game plan should be to harass your enemy laner early, and constantly look for roams and river fights with your jungler - the thing zoe excels at the most. Mid to Late game look to side lane if your adc decides to take over mid, but preferably zoe is best mid. Push side waves and look to make picks in mid over the wall.
Teamfights;
Zoe is great at starting teamfights by making picks with her e or poking oppennets with her q. It does not matter if you kill the enemy if you can chunk them out and prevent them from joining the teamfight its also great.
Even though zoe is not as good as other mages during a teamfight as she does not have consistent damage, she is great at chasing low hp enemies who are running away after a teamfight because of w move speed buff and e going over walls. Zoe can turn around teamfights even after they end because she excels at chasing people down.
Ideally your gameplan should be making a pick with bubble to start a teamfight
and then chase out anyone whos low hp and running from the fight.
Laning:
Laning into melee:
Zoe excels laning into melee champs. Look to slow push the wave by only last hitting minons with auto and go for short range q combos that are into their face: q auto q auto. Zoes short range q has has base dmg early game making the difference between long range and short range q landing not that different. As long as you hold your e, many melee champs cannot easily get on you.
Laning into Ranged:
Ranged champs that are hyper long range like syndra are harder to harass, so always just look to hard push the wave early lane and then harass them under tower.
