Introduction

Hi this is a basic guide how to play a solo riven tank which may start slow but ends extremely strong.

Runes

For Marks i prefer to use Greater Mark of Desolation for the obvious reason this armor pen gives you a nice edge from beginning to end.

For Seals i prefer to use Greater Seal of Evasion this is more so a personal preference they could easily be substituted for Greater Seal of Resilience for some extra early game armor.

For Glyphs i prefer to use Greater Glyph of Celerity this helps a lot with being more aggressive in mid-end game but could be substituted for Greater Glyph of Shielding which helps a lot against casters throughout the entire match.

For Quintessences i prefer Greater Quintessence of Swiftness this along with the extra movespeed from your masteries allows you to get back into lane quickly, assist other lanes faster and most importantly escape dangerous fights and ganks easier.

Masteries

These Masteries are pretty straight forward they give you a decent amount of survivability with Hardiness and Resistance some extra health with Durability and Veteran's Scars plus some extra mobility from Initiator and over all tackiness from Honor Guard and Juggernaut.

Items

I like to start with Regrowth Pendant and a Health Pot but its also acceptable to start with a Ruby Crystal or Boots i just find that the Regrowth Pendant keep Riven sustained in lane for much longer, the first time you return to base you should be able to grab your boots and maybe a Ruby Crystal (or Regrowth Pendant if you started with the Ruby Crystal), your second time back either purchase a Giant's Belt/ finish Warmog's Armor if you can, but if your having a hard time in your lane and have to back early i would suggest finishing your boots i tend to favor Ninja Tabi mainly because i play with Dodge Seals but if you are laning against a AP heavy or CC heavy lane/team i would defiantly go with Mercury's Treads, from here your goal is to sustain your lane while focusing as much as possible on farming for your Atma's Impaler once you have this you should see a considerable difference in Rivens offense.

Summoner Spells

Prefered
Teleport: I find teleport extremely effective and safe for any solo lane champ

Ghost: Thanks to Rivens Valor move i find that Ghost is extremly effective, Valor gives you a bit of room between you and your enemy which you can stretch into a large gap with Ghost.

Acceptable

Flash: Flash is great for many reasons and there is no drawback to it really i just don't find it as effective as Ghost.

Cleanse: Cleanse is a great for riven if you have no intention to get Mercury's Treads or any items with tenacity

Exhaust: Exhaust is effective against 1 person and it is very effective but if you find yourself soloing against a due lane it is a lot less effective.

Farming

KI Burst KI Burst KI Burst KI Burst KI Burst

If you are laning against a Melee Champion then farming with her and bullying Your opponent and farming go hand in hand but if your against any thing else you usually have to play safer but never forget your a CD based champion so use Valor and Broken Wings to take you in and out of farming range as often as you can.

Team Work

Riven is a very good initiator for team fights, my usual strategy is to run in starting Broken Wings as i enter the fight and then Ki Burst watching the opposing team's focus, luckily Riven puts out enough burst to be an immediate threat especially late game and once you see the opposing team turn there focus on to you immediately Valor out and bait them through your Teams DPS, when the opposing team starts to switch focus back to the rest of your team you should be able to to dive onto the most vulnerable opponent and dish out some more damage while still effectively tanking/deterring the opposing teams DPS.

Summary

Thanks for reading and please feel free to comment i would love some constructive criticism.

If i get good responses i will defiantly fill out a Ranked Play section in great detail.
