Champion Build Guide
The plan: Make her dragon form really ****ing slow, really ****ing clunky, but make each movement a masterpiece of pure unadulterated dragon form.

Caught in a world where her ancestors look down upon the young dragon as she is quick to unleash her powers to those who don’t deserve it, or can’t control her fury. With humans unsure whether she is an ally or a foe. I hope you enjoy my rendition of Shyvana, an unrelenting force who is prone to quick fits of fury and lacks the proper training and patience passed down from her elders.

DRAGONFORM |
With that dragon form being very clear, her human form would be triple the speed of how slow her dragon form abilities feel like.

How did I get here? What made me decide on reworking Shyvana? It started out as an answer of what came clear to my head — certain aspects of Shyvana were not outgoing enough to be played as a true Dragon. Furthermore, consider a competition between a community idea and a trio of Riot reworks. All of which have been put in a spotlight, you can think of these as Dr. Mundo, Shyvana, and Nocturne, the other two not worth mentioning have already been reworked as we speak, this is of course Volibear and Fiddlesticks. And finally, I enjoyed bringing out these various kits to another realm of possibility, something more inspired, relevant to personalities unique to each individual champion. I want to leave off with an idea that these champions aren’t cannon fodder but players of the game can utilize certain strengths and combat weaknesses with individual playstyle and decision making.
I’ve noticed her model doesn’t reach a true dragon form to be capable of lifting up into the sky, but I hope the process of imagining Shyvana not as a literal half-dragon, but a human caught between the training of her ancestors and helping those lesser than her. Dragon form Shyvana attempts to reach a limit of activating certain abilities that can only be expressed as true dragon gameplay, at the same time finding a way into a competitive game that needs to fit with a concurrent stream of thousands of other abilities. What inspired me with this version of Shyvana came from a game full of dragons in Skyrim; the idea was left off having players who fight against Shyvana — can feel the same ebb and flow of swords clashing against a dragon which recuperates certain mechanics and fighting abilities limited to the dragons design and anatomy, meaning a slow dragon.
Imagine a world in which community designs outvalue Rioter work. I believe the players who are actively playing a game internally, know more what is going on then a full stack developer. A problem we always face is a lack of voice from the community when they each have a different idea of what is going on. Personally my problem isn’t with what idea a community member might have, but they lack the certain ability to implement anything with thousands of other things outside of their rational. This is easier when you have a large team, there are literally millions of combinations happening with each ability and how it interacts with not only coexisting champions, but multiplied by all their abilities and their interactions. This is why I believe the designer who exposed themselves the most to this possibility can contribute fair abilities that most importantly 9 other players have to deal with versus 1.
Yea I got it, Shyvana is a dragon, each ability has it’s own flare. If I hadn’t reached that far, and if you think about each dragon ability, it isn’t inherently all synergistic. But what is Shyvana? Despite the obvious, the culture of Shyvana has always been considered as attack speed, or was it attack damage originally? Now a new wave of Shyvana hits and all players can think about is Ability Power. Bruh it’s easy to look at each ability and feel power comes from one or the other, speaking targeted at dragon form. The Q is quite execution style, you have a strong attack damage scaling which compliments itself from human version, the W is an intermediary of quite complimentary CC and mobility, splitting the two with a strictly ability power spell you have her E, yes but what of her personality? You can think of the kit: Shyvana is a balance of conquer and pleasure; dueling and sabotage, bossy and fierce.
What is, Shvyana? conquer Face a problem, overcome it with a fresh look, you’re given a new Q without a doubt this looks so much better. An extension of inferior strength, a strong attack, an expression of serious dragon momentum. Seriously, believe me when I say the human in you believes in it’s own strength, in reward you’re given pay off. Wack the attack to gain serious edge and max to feel excusable strength. pleasure I can see you’re quick to judge, but the young dragon doesn’t have to endure much before dishing out loaded damage stacking up fast. You’ll find a heart beater that has to tear across several kingdoms, we’re all desperate to have Shyvana save us then devour our sheep and scorch the roads. All in what return? Have fun fletching the very people mocking you and you are running around creating chaos. Savour the suspense, soon you’ll be able to cast again. dueling Shyvana is a carryover of fast attacks, lengthened battles drawn over a quarter and then finished with one final burnout and then you deal with her fury. The Burnout active can’t be stopped, it’s coming and you can’t defeat it, better run but you can’t outrun it wish any ordinary trick. Save the common escapes and face a bar of anger fast approaching. Her Dragon ability is a whole ‘nother person, W is flight. Then suddenly the same tricks in battle have been used against you. sabotage E fills a screen full of orange, it’s best used to cover ranges unusable to you. A gap that needs to be closed with a skill shot, or a surface area waiting to be burnt, a divide in different goals. Very few survive the blast suffered under the effects of an Elder Dragon, or the other hand, Shyvana lays waste upon miles of landscape. You can create diverges in teamfights, plenty of panic spilled. Never feels the same, you can make everything fall apart. bossy The weak should fear the strong, the weak should fear their weakness, combat weakness with attacks order in unique control. Control the flow in battle and dominating everything few and far between river’s and camps. You are the master of your own true form. fierce Quick decisions, a balance for all individual styles. A lifted sense of vigor and good tone defines what makes the player matter. Your matchmaking helps create a role with player identity and character. The player wanted a dragon and champion the fable tale of Shyvana old and new. In game you will try and have a new battle everyday, hard as it may be, hope you enjoy the fantasy of my lore.
TRIVIA
Shyvana’s best trait of the 6 attributes? Conquer. Does Shyvana have freedom from her ancestors? That’s what the teen dragon wants. Shyvana’s worst trait of the 6 attributes? Sabotage. What is the one thing Shyvana might desire? To be as strong as an elder without possession. League Judgement? You didn’t want to be here, try to not tremble and waver off your inner fears. Friend or Foe? Whatever you need her to be. And the opposite of that. What does Shyvana smell like? Trick question, the air remains stiff and cold. |
Notes |
• Some further notes on Shyvana's gameplay.
Shyvana needs to have an active Burnout on her to leave a fire trail after transforming from human form to dragon form.
It's possible to have a concurrent fire trail after becoming a dragon and still maintaining a Burnout active, and if you wish to further travel across the map with a new W in dragon form.
It’s fair to assume enemies who wish to travel a distance that is not a blink like flash or any teleport will leave a fire trail that Shyvana can gain bonus movement speed on. As well as if Shyvana has the same sort of dash mechanics in her kit that she can use her own fury to her advantage.
Shyvana’s abilities do not reset on becoming a dragon.
Dragon form Q applies on-hit effects to every enemy hit by the AOE. Her dragon form Q is an AOE in a straight line limited to her anatomy's length, mostly her Q in dragon form is classified as an execute as well, especially if left empowered by a W.
Human form Q will no longer apply two on-hit effects like the old version. You however have a small AOE effect into a single on-hit empowered basic attack. In fact human form Q greatly needs AOE as the concept of AOE in the jungle from her W is gone.
Max Q if AD, E if AP, and don’t forget both forms, W being unnecessary to max 1st or second in both forms as players tend to value auto attack enhancers later in the game and movement abilities/CC abilities like knockback and knockup usually don’t scale, but are always valued.
Yes the animations from her dragon form W read like a drake objective.
And yes the dragon form Q is doing tons of damage, the AP version of Shyvana players get to enjoy copious amounts of burn damage from dashing and breathing, but the attack speed players will not be forgotten. See this: It's always important to press W before transforming, after doing so you are granted greater attacks as a dragon, while you are discouraged to use your abilities when wanting to auto attack in dragon form, you have a 4 second timer of auto attacking and after 4 seconds you are free to use an execution ability like dragon Q which already synergizes with the attack damage components from attack speed items. Basically you need to play smart on how you weave your abilities and auto attacks.
Also you can get towards 8+ seconds of uptime on your Burnout active, very easy to achieve in dragon form, but not impossible to lose if you're not paying careful attention.
W in human form is actually dealing no damage but is meant to compliment not only her human form abilities and basic attacks, but the active can carry over from human form to dragon form, empowering her next dragon form ability (only the dragon form Q can get empowered) (technically it does damage from fire trail).
Shyvana E is an on-hit on the first enemy champion or large monster hit.
Old AP Shyvana is reminisced with her human E ability. It’s a lot more controllable and endurable for the opponent however, and the skill shot portion can only hit 1 enemy champion, ignoring monster and minion collision. But I would still allow it to damage enemy minions and monsters, and also let it activate on large and epic monsters.
Shyvana only gains bonus resistances if she can’t control her champion on her own accord, enemy CC does not count.
Remember, Q in human form does single on-hit damage but multiplied in dragon form. W envelops old on-hit basic attack magic damage all into the active, the new dragon form ability is more ravishing. E, is hybridized from the old kit to all fit in a particular manner in her human form, her dragon form is a much more relevant Rumble flame gust. There is nothing different on the wording of her ultimate but the old mechanic of Shyvana leaving a fire trail after dashing comes back, only conditional. Her passive is two simple sentences, a carryover of movement speed from her old Burnout with a simple implementation of an old unhomogeneous concept of resistances, the new one takes advantage of her slow movements in Dragon Form.
There’s no mention of me on the current state of a fury bar, yes nothing has been touched for that to change.
Summary |
I guess the power is too strong in the beholder and she is only a novice in her dragon abilities. But seriously, Shyvana is a novice dragon, although her power has yet to be uncovered, one can tell her new kit* possesses fathomable qualities true to her nature.
kit* Ultimate behaves the same way, you want to be farming and dueling solo in human form, dragon form Q inspires new techniques in team fighting. Which are time consuming abilities, but a lot more dragon-esque. Q kept as auto attack AD focused, human Q utilizes a former animation of a sweeping attack with both claws, dealing small AOE damage, compensating for loss of AOE in other parts of the kit, however loses dual on-hits. Dragon form Q a lot more inspired, a new empowered attack which instead uses your physical chompers to extend into battle; highly probable to finally attack multiple enemies in a cluster, big AP AOE damage moved over from dragon E to dragon Q as the execute damage is remarkable, but tighter and easier to predict. W movement speed bonus moved to passive, bonus attack amplifiers kept, AOE kept but a lot more inconsistent, keeping continuous and intelligent stacks mechanic intact. A lot more congruous with the rest of Shyvana's kit. Dragon form W entirely new and should hold no weakness over the former. E skillshot kept, new CC ability added, AP ratio's from old dragon form E moved over to human ability (Idol of the Elder Dragon), most likely % max target health moved to W's active final empowered attack. Dragon form E is a pure magic form ability. Passive bonus resistances intact but increased competitive potency, movement speed passive utilized for the human version.
