I am an average player of Silver I division and this is my first guide , and I decided to make this guide so everyone will have a chance to try this.I entered a game with wrong runes , and therefore I decided to go solo top and I made this build.You can't imagine...
Won't bother you with numbers and scores , but I have to confess I was quite surprised by her damage.
But,let's cut to the chase...
Hope you enjoy this build as much as I did , writing it.
Many people will wonder, why should we bother trying this , when there are so many good solo top champions.Well... as the title says , you gotta try this before you jump to any conclusions.
I randomly played her solo top , as it was my mistake as explained on Introduction, and it definately was an amazing experience.
Anyway, I don't want to be boring just check the rest of the guide and go check it for yourselves.

+Pros +Ranged champion +Amazing stun ulti Crescendo +Extremely good harass +Unique experience +Easy farming In other words, Sona has the advantage to be a Ranged champion which gives her the chance to farm and harass the opponent way easier than a melee one.Furthermore what can I say for her ulti? In my opinion it's a gamechanging ultimate spell very useful to have in your team , but only if you time it correctly.Finally, it is a unique experience and I got to say it is really fun. |
-Cons -Squishy -Hard to come back -Farming dependant -No escapes Sona, is really squishy and especially early game and that means that if you are not careful you will end up feeding and getting underfarmed.Also another important thing to keep in mind is , that once you fall back , it is extremely hard to come back in game, not impossible though.Finally, she has no escape mechanisms, so having top warded is essential when you are pushing , because you may end up burning your Flash and getting exposed to lethal ganks. |
Runes
The choice for your runes , is more or less standard like a normal AD solo top. Basically :

We chose Attack Damage marks , simply because of the damage it provides.That damage will help you farm easier and harass the opponent more efficiently.We chose Flat Armor seals for some sustain , mostly useful in laning phase , which is essential for Sona.We chose Scaling Magic Resist glyphs for extra sustain in lane and mostly in late game , when you will be focused probably , so extra tankiness will help you survive to do more damage in teamfights.Finally , we chose Attack Damage , for the same reason we picked up these marks. The damage provided is totally useful and necessary for AD Sona.

Runes
Experienced PlayersIgnite Flash Flash to escape a gank or finish off a player running away with low hp. Ignite to reduce healing effects on the target , like Dr. Mundo , or to finish off a champion at low hp. |
Mediocre PlayersFlash Ghost Flash to escape a gank or finish off a player running away with low hp. Ghost to escape an unpleasant situation , or reach the enemies if they are going away |
New PlayersFlash Teleport Flash to escape a gank or finish off a player running away with low hp. Teleport to go faster back to your lane , or teleport on a teamfight through a ward for example. |
Power Chord
After casting 3 spells, Sona's next attack deals 8 + (10 x level) extra magic damage. This enhanced attack has an additional effect depending on which spell was cast last.
Additionally, Sona's auras persist for 1 seconds after deactivating. Sona's basic abilities also set off a .5 second cooldown to the other two basic abilties.
Power Chord is her passive ability.Her passive comes in quite handy if you get familiar with it.If you combine the last spell used with an auto attack , you get the effect you want, which is either, reduce the damage the taget does for some time,reduce their movement speed or do some extra damage.
Hymn of Valor
Sona plays the Hymn of Valor, granting nearby allied champions 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 bonus Damage and Ability Power. Additionally, casting this ability sends out bolts of sound, dealing 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 (+70% of ability power) magic damage to the nearest two enemy champions or monsters.
If this spell was last cast when Sona's Power Chord is ready, her next attack will do double the damage of her Power Chord.
Hymn of Valor is my favorite spell , and Sona's basic harassing skill.It doesn't cost that much mana and it's really useful if you combine it with Power Chord.
Aria of Perseverance
Sona plays the Aria of Perseverance, granting nearby allied champions 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15 bonus Armor and Magic Resist. Casting this ability sends out healing melodies, healing Sona and a nearby wounded ally for 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 (+25% of ability power). Additionally, both Sona and the healed champion will have the bonuses of this aura doubled for 3 seconds.
If this spell was last cast when Sona's Power Chord is ready, her next attack will de-buff the target to deal 20% less damage for 4 seconds.
Aria of Perservance is an amazing spell that most people don't really appreciate it as much as they should.It heals you for a small but useful amount , and provides you and the allies close to you with magic resist and armor.Trust me , it's a really powerful spell that your opponents will hate.
Song of Celerity
Sona plays the Song of Celerity, granting nearby allied champions 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 bonus Movement Speed. Additionally, casting this ability energizes nearby allies 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 14% additional movement speed for 1.5 seconds.
If this spell was last cast when Sona's Power Chord is ready, her next attack will slow the target by 40% for 2 seconds.
Song of Celerity is quite useful even though some times people tend to underestimate it.It's true that it's not as useful as Sona's other spells(that's why I max it last),but the slow from Power Chord can be quite useful in many ways.
Crescendo
Sona plays her ultimate chord, forcing enemy champions to dance (stun) for 1.5 seconds and take 150 / 250 / 350 (+80% of ability power) magic damage.
Crescendo one of the best ultimate abilities in my opinion.As I mentioned before , it is a gamechanging ultimate which can turn fights for your team if used correctly.
Boots + 3x Health Potions are the standard opening items on a solo topas they give you a movement speed boost and some extra health useful in the begining. |
Doran's Blade is a solid choice to go for for Sona as solo top.It gives you damage to farm easier,harass more efficiently and get some HP back,therefore sort of lifesteal. |
Phage is what you should go for after your Doran's Blades.It's necessary for Sona AD,because of the health it gives to compensate the fact that she is squishy let alone the movement speed reduction,and you can build it to trinity force afterwards. |
