Pros / Cons

Pros:

Strong utility
Can save teammates
Can secure kills easily
Strong farmer

Cons:

Can be scraping around for mana early
Passive is extremely weak early game
All abilities are skillshots, so only reliable with practice
People overestimate her ulti range (From the fountain it doesn't even leave the base, it stops around the inhibitor.)

So Why Those Choices, Bahanima?

Well, Billy, that's a good question. This build is designed to keep up enough mana for you to escape with your Q, E and W, and keep the mana cost on your Q down. Your Q is an escape mechanism and a set-up-trick. You want to keep a low mana cost so you can keep throwing it out. I like to poke and spam as Lux, so it's also designed to stop you going "oom" (Out of mana.) early game. I've had around 180 CS by 20 minutes as Lux before going a similar build to this, but that's aside the point. Your job is to "ks" (Kill secure.) for your team with your ulti, while stopping them (The enemy.) from having good positioning, and giving your team shields and enhanced mobility (Well, compared to the enemy.) That's your job as Lux, you aren't some DPS Drone that tears into everyone any which way you like, unfortunately. This build also makes you mildly tanky, so you won't be focused, but you have AP and nice movement speed so you'll be able to chase people down, no worries, but that shouldn't be #1 on the priority list. Think of yourself a bit like Morgana. Oh and feel free to exchange some items; But we'll talk about that next chapter.

Alternate Item Choices

(Sorry that I can't get any pictures in here, the URLs are being strange. I know I'm doing it wrong but eh, you can live I'm sure.) You could argue that a pair of Sorcery Shoes might be better than Mercury Treads, but if they have a Leona, Taric, LeBlanc, or someone else who likes to be a CC Bot, Mercury Treads all the way good sir or ma'am! Or if you're really strapped for cash, or feel like an early game impact, screw Mercury Treads, get a pair of Sorcery Shoes and a Moonflair Spellblade. That should make you more of a. . . threat. If you only have tanky runes for whatever reason, then swap out Rod of Ages for another item, if you feel the need. A thing a lot o' Luxes do, which I think is good too, is max out Cooldown Reduction. So you might even wanna swap out that Rod of Ages for a Morello's, and your Merc Treads for some Boots of Lucidity. That way you don't need the Intelligence Mastery, and can put those points into Strength of Spirit, and end up with 1% off maxed Cooldown Reduction, so not shabby either.

Unique Skills

One of the best CC's in the game; Her passive is just immense when used to maximum effect, her Q is a dual Snare on a small cooldown relative to others, her W is a Skillshot Shield which passes through multiple people one or two times, rereshing the shield, and her E is extremely strong for farming Mid-Late game. And of course, her ulti. What can we say, this thing is called the Super Mega Death Laser for a reason! All of these things give Lux a unique feel in my opinion.

Conclusions

As you've probably noticed, Lux is Karma-Jr. A support/mage/burst Support/AP/Hybrid that is so overlooked. She can be so powerful, but I would recommend using Smart Cast on her Q and W, not E or R because they need careful placements and considertion when casting them, for farming, or maybe killing that BASTARDING TRYNDAMERE WHO JUST POOPED ON YOUR TEAM... sorry I kinda had to rage at some point about Tryndamere, stupid OP ulti should be 4 seconds in my opinion, God. And the cooldown my christ! But that's for a different day. Lux is a great champion with a fair skillcap. Oh, and one last thing: This is a build for Mid Lane/Solotop Lux. Not support, AD Carry and my God definately not Jungle Lux... (I will try that some day!)

P.S. While viewing before publishing, I noticed some stats the build has didn't show up on the overview at the top. Please excuse this if it is the case, if not, ignore it.

One last thing; Every time you snipe someone with your ulti, a puppy dies, but everyone on your team gains respect for you. Take Flash Clairvoyance so you can get MAD SNIPEZ, or Clairvoyance Teleport if you wanna just boom appear close, then snipe them as they recall when you catch them with Clairvoyance. But that's only if you murder puppies in the name of video games and respect-gaining (Which I may recommend against certain compositions, such as against Tryndamere. Recall after you ulti away from me now, you barbarian bastard...
