I feel that your summoner spells fit Alistar VERY poorly.

Good to see you get some good results using this. The amount of kills is low and your general number of assists is quite high so I guess you supported your team well.

Having said that, I still feel like I need to repeat this:

A build that 'works' doesn't have to be optimal.

Obviously this works for you but I think that's largely down to your level of skill.
Exhaust and Ignite are still rather aggressive choices on a support champion and I personally wouldn't pick them.

I still won't upvote, but I wish you the best of luck on getting a high rating with his guide ;)

As promised, I said I would post 5, 5v5 matches using Alistar. These are my last five matches that I did this morning, you can see a Karthus as well. As promised though, using my Tank/Support Build. The first two games, the reasons why the stats are low, is because they were surrenders at the 20 min mark. The next 3 games were actual full games. Enjoy!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/68421436@N02/6280555883/in/photostream/lightbox/

On the 3/12/26 match, I tied our Akali for fewest deaths at 12, most deaths was Graves at 16. We were up against a very good, and very team focused team. That match took a little over an hour, and there was a lot of back and forth on both sides. Near the end we had wiped, and they were knocking down our mid towers pushing towards inhib. I respawned first, ran up to the inhib using all my abilities as soon as I got there. It was just me, by myself, and all 5 enemy champions turned tail and ran for safety. Granted they were all wickedly low on life from our last team fight, but still, it was awesome!

The skill sequence was always there, but I think adding the icons really made it much more noticeable.

I see you've added the icons and have used a lot of colors (be careful not to use too many colors in 1 sentence though :P). Much better :)
The skill sequence section also seems new to me (or maybe I just missed it, not sure). Must say the early game AP won't affect your heal that much (only 0.2 AP ratio), I would focus on explaining why maxing Pulverize is better considering your (agressive) playstyle.

I will keep an eye on the guide during the next couple of days for any further changes ;)

Actually the + Rep is a very polite gesture. I am making the guides to basic, and leaving out a lot of information that I actually probably should be discussing, I guess, in my own assumptions, I guess I kind of expected when people came to my guide, to already have good general knowledge about the game, and already have things in place like their own teams, Really for the most part, just wanting to get people to try different champions and branch out a little. I will take a couple of days, and then re vamp all of my guides, am currently studying a guide on building better guides using this site. Am new to this site, and am new to using it, so after I get more knowledge, and apply that knowledge, I will send you a message and let you review the changes I made. I think now that we have a better understanding of one another, we can hopefully even build this bridge into a friendship, as opposed to just an understanding. I'll shoot you a message when the changes have been made, for now though, I'm going to go kill Graves! :) Happy Hunting!

I'm going to + Rep you for that comment :)
To be honest, it wasn't the comment I expected (no offense) since we didn't ehm... react really friendly to each other at first. I was expecting more of an 'OMG Y U NO TRY AND THEN REACT' kind of reply lol.

Even though I don't fully agree with your choices I must say you have at least explained them very well. The Exhaust + Ignite combo that you used to save your allies was (in this case) great but I would normally try simply using Alistar's great crowd control abilities for that of course.
While using Flash can be done defensively to get out of a nasty position, I think it's a must because of the options it gives you. I have saved many teammates using Flash + Headbutt (while they were being chased), given my team tons of kills by using Flash + Pulverize (as an initation move or in the middle of the teamfight to turn the fight around) and have even once saved someone by using Flash + Triumphant Roar just before that teammate would die because of one Teemo's mushrooms. You can use it for yourself as well (and sometimes I do) but thats not the main reason why I take it.

The fact that you don't generally have to buy a lot of wards is great and partly explains how you can build the items you've listed without farming, but the team you describe is of course very situational. If you're making a guide and you don't often buy wards because you often have Twisted Fate and Teemo as teammates, that's something worth mentioning. At the very least I would mention buying wards is something a support generally does ;)
The same, of course, goes for Clairvoyance.

In fact, I would strongly recommend adding sections to this guide. Now I know you haven't done a lot with my earlier recommendations (xD) but if you want to prevent having the same discussion that you had with me with other people that will read this guide, do this. List alternative runes, summoner spells, items, talk about what you think are viable choices and what are not (and why, of course). Describe what you would do if there's not a Teemo and TF in your team (more wards? Clairvoyance?). Make it more of a general guide than something which is based on a very specific team comp ;)
Also, add a section about your general mindset. Leveling your Triumphant Roar and Pulverize together seems something that fits your playstyle, so adding a section or expanding your section with tips would help.
Finally, I would really suggest using icons, not only in your guide but also in the walls of text like the one you just typed... Please? :)

I won't upvote the guide because I simply disagree with your view on Alistar, however I hope the +Rep is good enough and of course I wish you a great day as well ;)

I'm going to start off w/ Oracle's Elixir, when you are playing against champs such as Teemo, Twitch, Evelyn, Akali, and so forth, Oracle's Elixir is a must. Wards can also be very helpful, but in my team matches, I usually don't have to pick up the ward, or am picking up only one or two up. Not lying about the Greater Quintessence of Gold, giving you my perspective of them, as someone that actually played with them for a solid amount of time. The reason why I can speak against the Greater Quintessence of Gold, is because I bought them and tried them out. I used them pretty solid for everyone for about a month. This is my suggestion to everyone as far as they go, if you feel you need gold, then you need a gold generating item and then in masteries you need to take utility up to at least greed. I'm telling you though, there are other quints, that you will get a much better benefit from, then just generating gold. I mean, you're talking to the guy, that for awhile had 3x Greater Quintessence of Gold, greed in utility, and two gold generating items, for example, Philosopher's Stone and Kage's Lucky Pick. I have done everything you can do, trying out different ways of generating gold, and if you happen to die frequently, you need these things in order to keep up w/ gold generation, but what you need to work on, is your survivability, if you die a lot, you may need to cut back on over extending, you need to view what's going on in your game, that you feel Gold is a problem. Most players don't take gold generating items, or Greater Quintessence of Gold, several don't even take greed in there mastery, so I challenged myself, to cut back to just having one gold generating item, and maybe one day I'll be brave enough to not even take that, but I like when the overview comes up at the end, and I wasn't leading in kills, or in deaths, or in assists, but yet, I'm almost at least 5k gold ahead of other people, and it is just solely from having a gold generating item, and I like that. If you die frequently, then by all means, get all the various ways of generating gold you can, because it is the only way you are going to be able to keep up with the players that you are feeding, I'm not directing that comment of feeding towards Wayne, I am just saying in General, if you are a player that dies a lot, then you need to find ways to get gold, it's that simple. Wayne I appreciate that you are at least taking the time to read my replies to you, hopefully we will be able to reach a mutual understanding through communication. Quite honestly, the only reason why I get Frozen Heart as a cool down choice, is because 20 percent cooldown reduction is plenty, after playing, I don't feel the need to get any more reduction then that, and I tried several combinations of reductions, just for what it is, I am pleased with 20 percent cooldown, and do not feel a need to get any more cooldown then that. My suggestion at that point, is if you felt like you did need more cooldown then I would advise either taking Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction, or Greater Quintessence of Scaling Cooldown Reduction, at that point, and using this build as an example, it's just up to you whether you feel AP isn't as important as cooldowns, or Magic Resistence isn't as important, somewhere something has to be sacrificed, if you feel that you need greater cooldowns, and I would definately sacrifice in the runes for a change before I would in the item build. There are also a few ways to gain cooldowns in masteries if you feel inclined to go that route. Bear in mind, this build already takes sorcery to achieve a cooldown that way. The reason why I level Pulverize and Triumphant Roar fairly evenly, is because I don't have to max out Triumphant Roar right away for my team to get the benefit of it. I spam Triumphant Roar at every opportunity, and I like my Pulverize being able to deal a little bit of damage as well, by having them leveling together, has saved my life more then once. I am one of those Alistar's, that frustrates the opponent, because they can't fathom how I am still alive w/ just that smudge of health. Because I do take some AP items, AP Mastery, and AP Runes, my heal has several little bonus' so I don't have to max it out right away. Now when I first started playing Alistar, I did max Triumphant Roar out ASAP, but after tweaking it, and playing w/ it, I've learned that there is more benefit to having a good Pulverize, and a good Triumphant Roar, then just having one maxed out over the other. Headbutt is kind of ignored in some regards, but if I was going to make it the star, then I would have 3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, Boots of Swiftness, and try to out maneuver my enemy by using Headbutt to position them either to the turret, or too my team mates. However this particular Alistar is not that Headbutt style of Alistar, and this is why we are not looking at the Headbutt as the star. However Headbutt is a wonderful thing, once you've trained yourself to use it effectively. One of the reasons why I don't use Flash is because I don't run from fights, and I don't chase, when they are that low on life, someone else can Flash and get the kill, that is fine by me, if they Flash away from me and are low life and just used Flash in my lane, then I use Headbutt to close the distance, and typically, because of my AP, Headbutt is most typically the killing blow in this instance. I'm also not afraid to follow them, kill them under there tower, and walk back out, but that's because I can take several shots from a tower w/o it effecting me. As far as Clairvoyance is concerned, I should note that I play a lot of games w/ a Twisted Fate, seeing where the enemies are is never an issue, they are very good at map checking for the entire team, that and we ward very heavily, we also have a Teemo, so there really isn't an issue with being able to see what the enemy is doing on our maps. Now in that regard, I am very fortunate and lucky. Just remember, this is a team game, don't feel like you have to take everything on your shoulders and do it all, find yourself a group of people to play w/, and get yourself into roles. Exhaust and Ignite work for me, and I will share this with you as an example, Karthus, Ashe, and Tryndamere were 3v1'in my Caitlyn in Mid Lane, now we were aware of MIA's and it was suspected something was going to happen in middle so I was already halfway up River when the attack started. they were pushing towards the tower not quite there. I came up behind them, Caitlyn was half life, Teemo was on his way heading up mid lane from Nexus. Caitlyn was just south of the turret. I used Headbutt on Tryndamere to knock him towards the north side of the turret and then I casted Exhaust on him. I right clicked on Karthus who started to fall back right away. While moving away from the turret and Ashe I casted Ignite on Ashe. Tryndamere got away from the turret, but Caitlyn used Ace in the Hole on him and Teemo arrived and poisoned him. Ignite killed Ashe once Tryndamere was out of the turret range, because Ashe got close enough that she took a turret shot. Tryndamere and Karthus focused me, I used Pulverize, Tryndamere died from Teemo's poison while in mid air. Karthus came down, Caitlyn and Teemo were close enough to me that I used Triumphant Roared, then Teemo used Ignite on Karthus, had Karthus poisoned as well, so when Karthus made it to the safety of his own turret, both those in combination killed what was left of his life. Mid was saved, no one died, and we went up 3 kills. That example right there is exactly why I take Exhaust and Ignite. Now if Flash better suits your playstyle, then by all means, do what's best for you, but this effectively works best for the way I play, and is why I play this way. I hope helps you to better understand some of the choices that were made. Have a great day!

A build that 'works' doesn't have to be optimal. I'm sharing my view (and probably the general view of most of the community, to be honest) with you on how to play supports. Generally, they buy items that will let them reach the 40% cooldown reduction cap and if they buy tanky items it's generally Aegis of the Legion so not only do they get more tanky themselves but they also help teammates. That's not my way of looking at it, that's the way it is.

You don't have to be a fan of the quintessences and if you feel like you get enough gold not to need them, fine. But don't lie. This is simply ********, it really is. You think they're bad because you personally have no experience with them and you feel like they won't help you, while in fact over the course of the game they will generate quite a big amount of gold for you and can really help.

First of all, it's good that you don't steal creeps from your carry. That's good, really.
Still, your guide says that you shouldn't believe people when they say Alistar can't farm. Again, this isn't necessarily wrong, but you shouldn't farm when you're laning with the AD carry. It's good that you know this, but you might want to add this to the guide because right now you're only encouraging Alistar players to farm when they sometimes shouldn't.
Also, the amount of times that my teammate in lane recalls when I'm Alistar is generally quite low. Sure, you can get some farm when they're gone, but it won't be so much gold that you are freed from any gold problems for the rest of the match.
I'm not wrong in my assumptions, I make them based on my experience (and trust me I have a lot of experience with Alistar). Maybe your experiences are different and maybe your teammate needs to recall very often in lane, but if that is the case then I would consider that a bad thing rather than a good thing. Your carry needs to be in lane as much as possible, farm as much as possible and you should be the one protecting him with your heals and crowd control abilities. I already mentioned that I think you should max Triumphant Roar asap and to be honest I still haven't had an explanation as to why you choose to get two points in Pulverize so early (all you ever say is 'you haven't tried this, this is unique, you simply have to test it, gold quintessences are bad, Alistar can farm' etc. I mean, I'm sorry, it might sound like I'm only trying to take you down without offering help, but in my defense I am for the third time typing a very long message on what in my opinion would be better to max/buy/do as support Alistar and all you say so far are the same things over and over again without actually thinking about what I'm saying, without explaining to me why all the things I say are bad, it seems). Because of these choices, you might be less able to keep your carry sustained, right?

You can call me 'locked into' my view as much as you like, but like I said you're not exactly considering what I'm saying either.
Doesn't it make sense to buy cooldown reduction in order to have your heal and your crowd control abilities on a much lower cooldown? Don't you think there's a general reason for people as to why they do that?
Don't you think there's a reason why generally other champions take Exhaust and Ignite, why the spell Clairvoyance is often picked by support champions?
Don't you think Flash and Pulverize synergize well to set up ganks or kills for your teammate in lane, or possibly even to flash in and save someone?
Have you ever even thought about mentioning wards? Oracle's Elixir, perhaps?

The fact is that you are telling is this is a SUPPORT/tank Alistar guide and your mindset seems completely wrong for playing a support champion. That is what I'm commenting on, my replies are not meant to be purely negative but right now you make a lot of choices that are simply strange and not logical on a support champion.

If you've had some good matches with this, great. That doesn't mean there's nothing that can be improved.
