Introduction
I have selected the Runes of Desolation for that early ArPen in the early game. This makes Yi pretty deadly right off the rip. Resilience and Shielding runes give him a little bit of Magic resist and armor to start the game with, also helping with the early game lane fights. I find myself in 2v1 situations on the top quite often and these have made all the difference.
My build focuses on attack speed very early. It is pretty much your bread and butter. Once you are swinging like a maniac early game most champs don't stand a chance. Just remember that turret diving is dumb. Don't sacrifice yourself just to get a killing blow only to return the favor to the enemy champ. Focus on farming minions until your opponent makes a mistake ....and they will. They will get impatient and stray just a little too far from the turret and BAM! You have them.
If laning against a heavy AP champ I try to grab a Negatron cloak early to help with annoying pokes. If there are a lot of team fights I will grab Tiamat for the splash damage. I've gotten several Penta-kills using this item. It's late game, though, so I wouldn't rush it.

Always, Always, ALWAYS level up your 'E' (Wuju Style) before 'Q' (Alpha Strike). Wuju style helps you last hit minions more effectively. I almost NEVER level up Meditate until late game. The mana cost for this skill takes you out of your lane way too quickly and the heal really isn't very effective. You are better off just grabbing some health pots and moving on. Once you grab Highlander 'R' then you can start ganking with style!
When you hit 6 and want to start ganking, I use the following sequence:
Run towards enemy champ. If he starts to run before you get to him, you can use Q to close the gap. Once you have done that smash E. If they start to run, smash that R button and watch their health drain. You can also use R as an escape skill if things go sour.

Master Yi is a wonderful champ to play, but it isn't easy getting your footwork down. Practice last hitting minions for max gold gain. Remember to play smarter than your opponents. Yi has great mobility but remember a good immobilize can ruin his day. Focus on your build and remember to be flexible. Building defense items may cripple your offensive capability a bit, but you'll fall in love with that magic resist when you are fighting LeBlanc's unbalanced behind. :P
Above all, Summoners, have fun and use good sportsmanship. It is still just a game!
