This is the way to a ownage maokai

I like to play Tank/Hp Maokai, it owns and can be very useful against some champions.

You are going to own with this runes they are perfect for this champion because you have:
Magic Resistance.
MP5.
And Magic penetration.

Sapling has an AoE effect so its great for farming low-hp minions
Smash can finish minions in a line so its good.

Maybe you can call me noob but Maokai is not the perfect "King of the Jungle"
Its GREAT when he goes on a lane with a ranged/dps champion, so its not good alone.

I play 21/9 maokai thats why defense masteries you can play support but its not the best.

First i go for boots and pots because he moves so slow, then i make mercury threads so it dont bother that he moves slow, I go for abyssal for saplings Frozen hearth for cooldown and slow, After that Randium's Omen so you can do Exhaust + It, Finally Shred and Warmog for HP and Regeneration.

Anyways you can change Randium Omen's and Soul Shred for:
Veil and Sunfire
Or:
Abyssal Cepter for Rylai for cooldown

U can start with Maelstrom if you have stuns in your team, after u cast it use Advance, Smash, and Sapling for finishing enemies.

I choose Clarity and Exhaust because:
He is mana dependant, and to escape or pursuit.
Another alternatives are:
Ghost
Heal
