Zyra
Completely outranges you and prevents you from using your Relic Shield because of her roots and high damage. She exerts so much pressure and her R is impossible to deal with. Beware of this support champion.
Twitch
Twitch can slow enemy champions with Venom Cask, making it very easy for you to land your cage. Once you land your cage, Twitch can deal loads of damage and if the enemy is still standing he can finish them off with his R.

Champion Build Guide
- This is Veigar’s passive ability. It is very straightforward. If you hit an enemy champion with one of your spells, you gain a stack of Phenomenal Evil Power. This also applies when scoring a takedown. Phenomenal Evil Power Stacks grant you permanently increased Ability Power (AP). This allows you to stack up endless amounts of AP, making you even deadlier as the game progresses.
Baleful Strike (Q)
- You unleash a bolt of dark energy in a given direction that deals magic damage to the first two enemies hit. Units killed by this bolt add to your Phenomenal Evil Power stacks. Always try last hitting two minions with this ability to get the stacks.
Dark Matter (W)
- Dark matter falls from the sky at a target location dealing magic damage. The dark matter has a radius and deals magic damage to any enemies within the radius. Its cooldown is reduced through stacks of Phenomenal Evil Power.
Event Horizon (E)
- You create a cage that surrounds enemies and stuns them for 3 seconds if they hit the edges. You need to practice in order to use this cage effectively. It’s great for crowd control and team fights.
Primordial Burst (R)
- A simple point and click blast. You deal a large amount of magic damage that increases based on how much health the target is missing.
-Your main objective as Veigar Support is to protect your ADC and help them kill enemy champions by stunning the enemies and dealing loads of damage with your abilities. The key to fulfilling this objective is landing your E Event Horizon and stunning the opponents. After landing your E the rest is straightforward. Hit the stunned targets with your W Dark Matter, then your Q Baleful Strike, and lastly (if necessary) hit them with your R Primordial Burst. With this build you are able to hyper carry games (especially in lower elos) as a support champion.
-In summary, your main objective is to set up kills and deal nasty amounts of damage.
Landing your Qs:
-Farming: This build allows you to farm AP with your Q (with Relic Shield) without bothering your ADC, but that will be explained later. Farming your Q is something that might seem quite easy, but it can be tricky. When you kill a minion with your Q you get a stack of Phenomenal Evil Power (which is basically a stack of permanent AP). Maximize the use of your Q by last hitting two minions at a time. You can also hit enemy champions with your Q to get stacks of Phenomenal Evil Power. This is basically how you farm with your Q.
-Dealing damage: Towards the end of the game your Q will prove to be very useful. When you start off, you don’t have a lot of AP stacked up, so your Q will not do too much damage. Fear not! As the game progresses your Q will do way more damage because you will build items that give you AP and you will be stacking Phenomenal Evil Power as well as Dark Harvest souls. Maximize dealing damage with your Q by trying to hit two champions at a time. If you think you can hit two at a time but it’s a very risky shot, always for the safe Q. Make sure to hit at least one target. Later on with a bunch of built up AP, landing one stun and hitting a champion with your Q will be more than enough for your ADC to finish them off.
Landing your Es:
-Importance: Landing your Event Horizon is very important. This ability spawns a cage that stuns enemies when they hit its borders. A lot of the times I recommend spawning it with the edges near your enemies so they run into them, but that’s only if you’re sure you will land the cage. If you can’t hit them with the edge exactly, just try and land the cage so that as many enemies as possible are trapped inside.
-Tip 1: Enemies expect you to throw your cage since it’s your only ability that provides some sort of CC, and it can prove to be devastating for the other team. If you run forward towards the enemy they will mostly back off. This is why I recommend you to be running sideways or even backwards when throwing the cage, that way you catch the opponents off guard.
-Tip 2: If you land your E and have enemy champions inside the cage, throw your W right in the middle if they aren’t running into the corners. You will most likely hit at least one of the champions inside.
-Tip 3: Use your E to peel for your ADC. When you and your ADC find yourselves in a perilous situation where all you can do is escape, just throw your cage slightly behind you so that the enemies run into it and get stunned.
-Picture: This is more or less slightly behind you (imagine you are the Garen).
Landing your Ws:
-The explanation for landing your Ws is very straightforward. Throw it in middle of your cage if your trapped enemies haven’t been stunned, or throw it right on top of a stunned enemy champ. In team fights you will want to throw it into a crowded area to hit as many enemies as possible.
Landing your Rs:
-There is not much science behind this one. It’s a point and click ability that does loads of damage, but there is one thing you must keep in mind. DO NOT THROW IT AT FULL HP CHAMPS. Primordial Burst is reliant on the HP missing of its target, so the lower the target’s HP is, the more damage it will deal. Towards the end when you’re fully stacked, you will be able to finish off champs with you R that are as low as 50% of their health.
Combo:
-This is the standard Veigar combo. Throw your cage, throw your W, throw your Q and then finish off (if necessary) with your R.
Phases:
-During laning phase you really just want to focus on stacking your passive and taking the least damage as possible. Play very careful early on to avoid deaths (because you’re super squishy)). If the opportunity presents itself, throw an E and get an easy kill for your ADC. Mid to late game you want to be playing very aggressive, constantly throwing Es and damaging enemy champions with your abilities.
-Stacking Phenomenal Evil Power: As mentioned before you are able to stack Phenomenal Evil Power by last hitting minions with your Q and hitting enemy champions with your abilities. You want to be last hitting minions (with your Q) when you have Relic Shield stacks active (you can see the number of stacks above the HUD as well as its cooldown). When you don’t have stacks of Relic Shield, look to hitting enemy champions with your abilities. Don’t spam too much or you will end up with no mana very early on. The more Phenomenal Evil Power stacks you have, the more AP you have.
-Stacking Dark Harvest: You get a Dark Harvest stack whenever you hit an enemy champion with their health below 50%. You can hit them with an ability or basic attack. Always look for the opportunity to get a stack as these stacks will give you tons of extra damage. From Gamepedia: “Damaging a Champion below 50% health deals adaptive damage and harvests their soul, permanently increasing Dark Harvest's damage by 5” .
-Justifying Relic Shield over Spellthief's Edge: Relic Shield is taken over Spellthief's Edge because it provides more health-regeneration and health (which is much needed since Veigar is very squishy), and it is more useful. You can only get gold off of Spellthief's Edge by poking the enemy champions and this isn’t very useful since your poking early on barely does any damage.
-Major Items 1 and 2: Switching between these two ( Luden's Tempest and Everfrost) is a matter of personal preference for me. I like taking Luden’s Echo because it gives me more AP and extra magic damage than GLP, and my experience as a Veigar main allows me to land my E frequently without the need of a slow. I recommend building Everfrost for newer Veigar players because it's more cost efficient and its active can slow down enemy champs, making it easier to land your E. As I said, it really is a matter of personal preference and either item works fine.
-Boot Selection: I usually go Sorcerer's Shoes for magic penetration, but Mercury's Treads, Ninja Tabi and Mobility Boots are also viable. I go Mercury's Treads whenever the enemy team is very AP heavy and has a lot of CC (crowd control). I go Ninja Tabi whenever the enemy team is very AD heavy and enemies that deal a lot of damage with basic attacks are fed. The only time I build Mobility Boots is for the cheese. Basically when I’m very ahead, I like chasing enemies and stunning them and just annihilating them with my abilities. Only build Mobility Boots when you’re ahead or you have a very easy matchup.
-Full Offensive Final Build: For this build I always get Rabadon's Deathcap for the insane amount of AP you get from it and I get Zhonya's Hourglass to save myself from sticky situations. If you’re going all-out offensive and you see lots of chase opportunities, go for either Spellbinder or Twin Shadows. I usually go for Spellbinder because it provides more AP than Twin Shadows, but Twin Shadows is also a great option since it slows down enemy champions and gives you movement speed.
-Offensive VS AD Final Build: This build is for going up against very AD heavy teams with strong basic attacks. Zhonya's Hourglass, Frozen Heart and Turbo Chemtank all give you armor. Frozen Heart reduces nearby enemy attack speed while Turbo Chemtank slows down enemy movement speed with its unique active. Zhonya's Hourglass gives you some extra AP and allows you to survive very sticky situations with its active.
-Offensive VS AP Final Build: I’ve already explained what Zhonya's Hourglass is useful for. Locket of the Iron Solari gives you and your teammates nearby a shield providing extra sustain for everyone. This is a great item because it is cost efficient and your role as a support is to help the team however you can, and giving your teammates a shield is definitely helping. This item provides you Magic Resistance and Armor. Adaptive Helm gives you more health, CDR, magic resistance, and you take less magic damage.
