Lore

Though the northern reaches of Freljord are some of the most unforgiving lands in Valoran, the Ursine have survived upon the region's barren, stormy tundra for centuries. As a fierce and respected warrior of the Ursine, Volibear devoted his life to the protection of his people and loyalty to his elder brother, the tribe's chief. When his brother was killed during a hunt on the tundra, the tribe looked to Volibear as his successor. It was an honor and a burden that Volibear had never expected, but he shouldered the charge with pride. However, by Ursine tradition, the tribe could not recognize Volibear as chief until he returned from a journey to the peak of their sacred mountain, a place forever shrouded in a thundering maelstrom. There, Ursine chieftains must speak to the storm itself, gaining clarity and wisdom to empower them as mighty leaders.

Donning the chieftain's traditional armor and enchanted gauntlets, Volibear began the long and perilous climb up the slopes of the mountain. When he reached the peak and gazed into the raging storm above, he saw a horrific vision of a Freljord utterly consumed by war. Amidst the carnage, the Ursine fell dead upon a bloody battlefield. Believing the vision to be an omen of things to come if he did not act against them, Volibear traveled to the capitol of Freljord. The Ursine had not ventured across the southern mountains in centuries and his appearance was met with unease. However, Queen Ashe recognized Volibear as a wise and powerful ally. In what Volibear considered the first step against a war-torn future, they forged an alliance. As part of their agreement, he joined the League of Legends in the name of a unified Freljord, representing the primal might of his nation on the Field of Justice.

''Few can weather the storm that follows in the wake of Volibear's roar.'' - Ashe, the Frost Archer

Introduction

ok first things first, im just a guy, let me repeat that, im just a dude, im not going to sit here and dazzle everyone with ratios this math here big words over their. im just a normal dude who works his five days a week and is a closet video game enthusiast. now that we have that out of the way, here ive made this guide really just to start some discussion, i love volibear hes a fun champ to play and really good right now, very tanky with awesome damage. Their are a few different ways to build Voli, you see alot of jungle, solo top lane and bot lane. And the combination of items that work on him are amazing. In this guide were just going to talk about solo top and bot lane im working on my jungle guide for him.

Skills

i start with the toss first in this guide because i like solo laning or being in bot lane. for you new players top lane is normally for solo players when their is a jungler and bot lane for the pair's. yes you can jungle voli and i have done it very succesfuly but i just dont prefer it and it doesnt seem to hurt my gameplay. alot of people start with frenzy first i see nothing wrong with that. usually only junglers start with majestic roar first and still some use frenzy first. very versatile tank. your frenzy is the big dmg get it up quick then roar then rolling thunder and level the ulti when you can.

Laning
when you are laning volibear your a little weak to the 2v1 but you have good survivability just hanging back and avoiding confrontation till you have a 1 or 2 level advantage on them and use your frenzy and majesitc roar to make sure your turret doesnt take that much damage. As long as you dont push your lane hard you can set up amazing ganks for your jungler. even junglers like shyvana who have weak early game ganks. you let them get up to your turret and then when your jungler is ready you use rolling thunder to sprint out catch one of them by surprise and then slow them with majestic roar. by this time your jungler is on them as well. with the bite from your frenzy you already had the enemy down to half health so finishing them off is quickly accomplished and you and your jungler now turn to the dead enemys teamate if their is one. also with rolling thunder and majestic roar you have amazing chase and initiate.

a quick word on your passive. when you get counterpicked and your solo top and they have 1 or 2 ranged ad or ap agaisnt you it can make your life living hell. but once again with a pot and your passive you can easliy mislead people into diving you and then dying wondering how you survived or if you use the summoner spell heal that works but while useful on voli for that purpose any person who has fallen into that trap isnt reallll likely to do it again.

Runes and Masteries

ive got voli with armor and magic resist runes like most tanks and armor pen quints and reds, it makes your auto attack and bite hit really damn hard early game i usually wind up stealing kills from my partner who is usually a ranged AD carry like Vayne or Ashe or whoever i play in premades alot because i happen to have friends. now some people are probly going to ***** and moan but ive tried the health quints and i gotta say i like armor pen better, wat is that 100 hp gonna do for you at level 18 that 25 armor pen isnt? i dont need fancy ratios and equations to come to my own conclusion their. i have my masteries set up for great tankyness whilst boosting your spells a little bit and giving you extra speed for initiate and get away.

Spells

i take ghost because it is amazing on voli rolling thunder and ghost can be used in close quarters for flipping into traps, turrets, bloodthirsty teamates or just to piss someone off, i flipped a yi away from baron and stole it with frenzy earlier that was pretty damn funny. got lucky. but anyways ghost, awesome on voli. heal is good for laning. your passive heals you when you dip below 30% so with heal you can easily bait people into turret diving to their demise and your profit. plenty of other good spells whatever your preference is. flash exhaust ignite.

Note. earlier today i was playing voli and trying a few things here and their and one thing me and my team found to be terribly OP is i would ghost+rolling thunder down mid lane and grab the other teams annie to start the teamfight and i would use the summoner spell surge and my ultimate Thunder Claws. and this is amazing because surge adds attack speed so with you ultimate it shoots chain lightning every time you autoattack and it adds AP which adds dmg to your lightning. combine that with a rylais crystal cepter to slow and do more damage and with a miss fortune ultimate BEHOLD THE PENTAKILL OF VOLIBEAR. to be fair i was extremely fed this game but the potentiol it showed was great i didnt how well it would work till i did it but if you have the gold rylais isnt a bad idea. slowing every minin and champ within its incredible range kept them all trapped while we quickly bursted them down.

playing volibear

when playing volibear in lane dont be afraid. when built right he is very strong early game and scales well into late game. flip people from running away and flip them into your tower, let your partner get them down to 70% or so and then flip roar and frenzy for an ungodly burst of damage that even if they flash they are scared out of their mind. this guy can be built very differently but you always want health and stuff to boost your AD. atmas is a must. starting with warmogs and boots is pretty common and it works fantastic. your one of the best initiators and tower diving tanks ever. thats pretty much all i can think of, no doubt riot will be nerfing voli but he is realy op. i cant think of too much more right now so im gonna go play some LoL

Note

im currently working on a jungle and dps lane spec just for giggles. played Aram with some friends earlier and went phantom dancers and deathcaps that was hysterical but not viable lol
