Both options are good in different ways. I was mostly referring to a different way to do the thing in my old tutorials. Since, as stated, what I used to do isn't really all that great. xD

@emoriam, here's what I have ^_^ I kept it simple, since I don't know the context of the picture, but I think it turned out okay.
Thanks for the sig, looks nice!
Btw, the context is The Walking Dead, just saying :p

Thanks to Ubnoxius for this sig!
I need some extra art for my guide and I just had this idea.

A similar, PURPLE-WHITE-ISH warning sign on left side of this picture made into size 700 x 50 header. The eye should be in the header. Crop the original text out or cover it.
Text: WARNING
Font: Magmawave Caps and Wide Latin ( 2 versions ) -> Magmawave Caps.
Thanks 3mi ;)

Bow to the Void
@Jamespongebob, there wasn't really anything I could add haha. The image itself was already pretty classy :3 I added the text and border to finish off the look. If you'd really like me to add a little more, let me know and I'll see if I can match anything with it.

@NRS, do you mean something like this? If this isn't what you had in mind, clarify and I'll fix it ^_^

Made this sig myself :)

Emi do you make line dividers? If yes could you make me something that could fit with
Kog'Maw.
Doesn't need to be something great, maybe just a green line with that makes a small curve once or twice to represent his AA.
I let this up to you though. You're the artist here:)

Using one duplicated layer set to multiply and then desaturating/recoloring it it helps a lot, then use various gradients to brighten the image back up. That's what I do now as opposed to what you're referring to.
What you mentioned doesn't give the same effect at all (doesn't have the airbrushed appearance at all). Not a bad thing, but just the case.
comparison:
(the top one being what I was talking about)
Yea the way I worded it was bad I guess, the way I mentioned wasn't meant to give the same effect, it is more of a way to darken the shadows and highlight the lights, so I don't aim for the airbrushed effect, I aim for an image that improves on the lights and darks, that's why I prefer soft light.
For example the Ashe image you linked is amazing, and I really do like your style of desaturting/recoloring then using the gradients, but my taste in art itself is something that shows a lot of color while showing the darks and the lights. It's kinda hard to explain since I learned it from one of my art teachers.
