Taric is imo the best support as he has a strong heal, a pretty much spammable stun and an armour aura that helps the carry staying alive vs the other carry. Also, Taric's ultimate is a pretty strong buff. Moreover, he is quite tanky and has his place in teamfights.

Alistar and Sona would be tied second place with me. Both have a good spammable heal and have CC. Also, they dish out quite some damage early-game.

This is more from a solo-queue point of view as I do not usually support when I am playing with my team.

P.S. Support Nunu & Willump is pretty cool to play as well but requires a whole different playstyle. Ulti in brush too funny. XD

Janna and Alistar.
I main them, sadly I haven't played Janna for quite a while, due to playing on another account I don't own her on.

I love laning with Caitlyn as Alistar. Headbutting the enemy into her trap is hilarious.

Sona is excelent and pretty easy to play as. Knowing how to use her passive is totally tide turner, thats the difference between a good and a kind of bad Sona.

Taric is nice, he has a good heal, can stun and is tanky.

Alistar is a different support. He's not a healer, but he has great skills to help the team.

Karma is good, shes strong and nuke well.

Alistar if you want an aggressive support.

Soraka for passive support.

Janna for late game support.

Haven't played Janna often since one of my friends doesn't like to lane with a support who doesn't have heals.....Her name is mentioned a lot though, should play her more often

Jann's ult is a heal, lol. How does that make sense? Would you rather have a heal worth something or a tiny heal thats like an instant health pot?

Depends on what your team needs. I personally like Janna really much because she can heal, shield and slow.

Heal and sustainable heal are not the same thing :P

In lane phase a tiny HP pot that can be used every 10-20 seconds is mighty fine.
