The thing is though, this meta (rather the ever shifting meta) focuses on snowballing in lane by typically out picking your opponent and gaining an early advantage....If you can't play comfortably on multiple champions then you're a lot easier to shut down imo.
My opinion as to why Dyrus will work better for TSM than Rainman:
TRM is a passive player, it doesn't help the rest of TSM who are rather good at early/mid game snowballing which then carries them over into late game. IF TRM loses top then agressive counter jungling insues which typically shuts down Oddone and Regi (blue buff control is what I mean). You now have 2, potentially 3 players who aren't snow balling in their lanes...Bar an amazing bot lane snowballing/carrying you're looking at a difficult win rather than an easy snowballed victory.
Dyrus on the other hand, is a skilled solo top, he's agressive, can play multiple champs top, doesn't let a gank/death get him down. This means TSM would have the piece of the puzzle that fits, this isn't to say TRM is garbage, clearly he isn't if he made it to the pro level. What it does mean though is that he didn't fit TSM's playstyle. Dyrus would/should/will.
TBH, what your saying is very true.
