Hi all :)
It's me lgnition also known as Ben.

Today I talked with some friends and we discussed about the SOLO QUEUE.
2 mates of mine and myself are in the so-called "ELO HELL".
One of my mate is Swyper with a top rating of 1,4k (currently 1080 ELO).
Another one is TrungGoten with a top rating of 1,6k (currently 1,3k ELO).
They told me their experiences in the SOLO QUEUE and both experiences pretty much matched.
Both are losing because of lacking teamplay, flamers, afkers and also their own fault sometimes.

I'm in the so-called "ELO HELL", too. (I'm using quotation marks because the definition of ELO HELL is diffrent for some people. For me ELO HELL is in ANY ELO. It's the ELO section where the player doesn't belong to. Anyway, .. let's continue)
Right now i'm between 1,5k - 1,6k and whatever I do.. I cannot get out of this ELO section.
Ok, you guys now might tell me "Well mate, maybe you belong to this ELO".
Well, I certainly don't. Maybe 5 months ago when I reached 1,5k the first time, but now I learned to play better than 5 months ago.
There are tons of players who deserve to be higher ELO.

Let's do a simple math:
If you lose 1 game because of other players in the SOLO QUEUE, then you have to win back 2 games to compensate the loss. Right?
So.. let's use our fantasy and let's say...

1. You win a game. 1250 + 12 = 1262
2. Lose because of lacking teamplay. 1262 - 13 = 1249
3. Lose because of afker. 1249 - 11 = 1238
4. You win and carried hard. 1238 + 13 = 1251
5. Lose again because of 1 single bad player in the team. 1251 - 12 = 1239

You started with 1250 and ended up with 1239 after 5 games although you did very very well.

Here is an example:



I lost 2 games because of my team and then I have to carry all people ONLY TO COMPENSATE MY LOSSES.

I know, to get ELO you have to carry ALL mates but some players can't be carried.
Do you know what I mean?
Carrying all players in a 50min-game and just winning 12 ELO, but then getting trolled in the next game and lose 12 ELO again within 10min into the game.

I came to the conclusion that winning ELO in the SOLO QUEUE needs the following factors:
1. Luck
You need luck NOT to get trolls/afks/dc'ers. This factor will mostly decide how your game will be.
2.Teamplay
You have to help your mates and keep your eyes on the minimap for possible ganks/supporting ganked mates.
Communication with your own team is the key! Instead of flaming you have to assist your team.
3. Champs
You have to counter your enemies, else you get countered.
With some certain champs it's nearly impossible to win the lane if both players are on the same level of skill. If you get countered there are still 2 factors that might help you: Teamplay (ask jungler to help) AND the fourth factor which is...
4. Skill
To get ELO you have to be a good player. Even if you think you are good, better keep an eye open and check whether you are really that good or not. If you do a mistake, remember it and never forget it.
Learn by making mistakes and you'll learn to handle your ELO section.
This factor actually MUST be the most important one to get ELO but NOPE (chuck testa).
It's a teamplay game and not chess. You cannot carry 4 people every every every game.

Sounds about right. The elo system isn't designed for teamgames and therefore will probably never be perfect for this game.

Or.. might it be the first time you were at 1.5k ELO, you didn't deserve to be there? You're right though, everyone's bound to have a match affected by leavers/AFKers. I agree with nearly everything you said, but I don't believe that teamplay is only around half of luck. Of course unless you mean really bad luck like four members of your team leaving, LOL.

well, I think 1 player is enough to ruin a game.
4 players cant win even with good teamplay.. except the enemies are really bad (according to the factors)

Imo this is complete bs, after about 150-200 ranked games you probably positioned yourself in your "true elo"..

no not at all. before you start ranking and after 200 games....
are you still the player with the same skills?

I see that you have only around 30/30 games in ranked, then you won't understand this thread.

I vote for luck, cus in my theory, gettin Elo in SoloQ is about luck.

I compared the EloClimb with a Manwha called ''Tower of God'', where you need skill, but on the same time tons of luck.

My project reached its final state. Now I just need to get back into 1520+


Edit: About the bs part.
Since I dodged to 0, and play myself back to 1350 now, I can certainly say: 50% Luck is the real thing.

No matter how good your teamplay is, or your own skill. Things that are in Luck are:
1-bad enemies
2-good teammates
3-actually picks that DO actually counter, yeah sometimes this is luck
4-you have a good day
5-riot servers have a good day
6-everyone else has a good day
7-luck ingame: can vary alot

40% your team sucks and it causes you to lose
40% their team sucks and it causes you to win
20% you carrying the game.
