Achievement system for voting, yay!
Like 10 Votes, 100 Votes, 1000 Votes, etc.
Then again people will simply DV/UV for the achievement... but hey you'll get votes :x

I totally understand the arguments for forced commenting. However, what stops them from lying in their comment, deleting their comment after voting, or making more accounts to vote from to hide their identity? Or all three.
In the end I would rather encourage MORE voting, to achieve more accurate confidence in the scores, than trying to make the system more complicated in an effort to censor votes and potentially scare away voters. We've said it before but, a troll voter is going to put in the extra effort. The casual users that just wanted to toss you a quick +1 are less and less likely to follow through the more difficult you make it for them.
I'd like to hear a suggestion that encourages more people to vote altogether, which doesn't remove the troll votes, but makes them more and more negligible, diminishing their efforts to nothing.
That's a very good point - I hadn't really considered that.
The issue isn't precisely getting people to vote more at this point - good guides already have hundreds of votes and will remain cemented in their position. I think what a lot of us would agree with is that certain guides need more attention, so they get to the point where they start getting a lot of points. While the top 10 is a great way to do this, there may be another way that doesn't leave the same builds up for a long period of time.
I suggested earlier that maybe there could be a "featured builds" page for builds that intrigue Veterans but don't receive that much attention. Perhaps every week, 10 new builds are selected that haven't really seen the light of day and need that extra attention.
One obvious downside is that eventually, you would run out of good builds to feature. That... I haven't thought of a solution to yet.

Jebus, that's exactly what the idea was behind the 5000 character guide filter. Thinning out the sea of guides to focus the traffic, eyes, votes and comments on the guides that put forth the most effort. In the past the guide listings on a champion page numbered in the hundreds. Now many are less than 20. This change is still so new, it needs time to have any kind of ripple effect. What we hope is that those quality guides will get more votes, and the troll voters will become less effective.
For your second point, that was the idea behind the veteran's guide endorsement feature, which adds an emblem to the guides in listings and fuels the "Recommended" filter on the browse page. It allows trusted veterans to promote guides that might otherwise not get their chance.
Just trying to remind you guys that, this is not something we have been ignoring. It is a huge part of every plan we make for the site, and it will always be :)
SixSonatas, definitely! That's the idea, to encourage and reward activities that make this site a better place for everyone :)

I should also mention Jebus that, you are right about some of the lists, particularly on the homepage, not being an optimal setup. It is something we have discussed and already made plans for, just haven't gotten there yet :) This site is a constantly evolving beast!

Yah, we're aware and do agree the homepage is not doing a good enough job displaying a wide variety of quality builds. We will be addressing that soon, and possibly some "top list" type pages or something to help with exposure of builds that deserve it.
"There's a joke here somewhere, and its on me."
K since this IS my thread and i have been M.I.A for time (was at work) i feel as though it is time to reply.
1. Everyone seems to want to increase the amounts of votes made
2. Everyone wants to filter out trolls
3. Everyone wants the best and most seen builds to get more publicity
4. Nobody wants to admit that they are treating this whole scenario like a bunch of pansies and could really use some testosterone
ok.
Put a rating system based not only on %, but number of votes.
So lets say someone has 100 votes and 70 +'s.
Assume 5-6 of those are troll votes
so give a 5% bump for every 100 votes a build gets. And scale it down. So 10% at 50, 5% at 100, 4% at 200, 3% at 300, and so on. That would make your builds more accurate because it would filter out the trolls by bumping the score until the troll votes became insignificant (1% at 500)..
THAT would be the best solution IMHO.
But meh, it wont happen, knowing the decision making process. or it will take approx. 4 months to go into effect.
