In case people are wondering what all these brilliant people are talking about:
SHIFT + (QWER) = the skill cast immediately where your cursor is. So for example, if you're
Ashe and your cursor is in front of you and you're running from some enemies and you SHIFT+W, your
Volley will cast in front of you, because that's where your cursor is. With this method you also don't see the normal alignment tool (the fan for Volley, the area you can cast an ability in).
ALT + (QWER) = the skill cast immediately upon yourself. So for example
Nidalee's E Primal Surge/Swipe when ALT+E will heal herself.
SHIFT + (1234) = shortcut /l, /j, /t etc
123456 = items in the inventory slot to activate their unique actives, or to use a consumable
I've never set hotkeys either.

Using the smart cast with a healer is nice in team fights , thanks for the tip.
I have selfcast W set to the extra mouse button on my mouse - it makes it so I can keep my
Blood Boil consistent while still watching other parts of the map with nunu.

I try to use them but then I forget about smart casting and end up accidentally blowing Malphite's on nothing after playing a game with Kass.
I much prefer to silently aim my skillshots and such.

But a situation in which I always smartcast is when it's about life or death and about split seconds, for example getting stunned(Smartcast
