You can stack them. So they're not UNIQUE.
I've had 2~3 Heart of golds and 2 Philo's Stones' on blitz... and avarice quints once, the gold income was like 4 a second lol! By time i walked to my bottom lane I was like 70 gold richer. but i think i was just messing about then.... Actually i think it was a bot game >_>
Anyway peeps can stack their heart of golds etc. By time they get 2 of those items i'll have my B.F.Sword or w/e

ppl just need to stop crying about gp5 items because gp5 items are just NOT imbalanced , they are fine and useful if you use 1 , they are useless if you stack it instead of getting real items unless your champions is poppy but then the issue is more poppy regen than philo stones or whatever
Succesful last hitting per 30 sec is: 26*2 + 20*3 + 32*1. Meaning you get 144 (-32 if Siege Minions aren't being spawned) gold while not getting one melee minion (**** happens).
5 Gold per 10 Sec is what, 30 Gold in 1 minute? 30*60 = 1800. That's what you get after 1 hour length game, and there isn't lots of them, 900 gold at point 30 minutes (at this time it just self payed itself...).
If you farm perfectly you get about 340 gold per minute, compared to that awesome 30 gold...
It still makes a good progress if you are playing GP, other than that I don't see it imbalanced unless you get 4 of them (120 gold per minute is 1 minute of Caster Minions, that's quite okay).
And really, going for those Avarices or Gold per 5 seems viable on Support and GP only imo.
Gp for crit, rest for AP, and yeah Jarvan for HP. But as Xiao said, by the time they got 2 of them i can last hit the **** out of it, get Wraiths once, maybe Golems, get an assist and have way more gold than them...

you spend about 5minutes with the passive effect getting the gold you spent on the item, and 5 gold per 10seconds is 1/2 gold extra per second. hardly noticeable especially since one minion gives like 25 gold. thats 1minute already on the items passive.
also any nerf would strictly cripple supports....badly.
