sorta like email is on the internet and mail is not on the internet
and yet the premise of mail and email are exactly the same thing while sports and esports are not...strange

i dunno last i checked the point of sports is for entertainment and to challenge yourself
im pretty sure that esports are for entertainment and that the pro players play it to challenge themselves

These are the first 2 definitions of "Sport" on dictionary.com:
1.an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
2.a particular form of this, especially in the out of doors.
i absolutely love LoL but I think its a stretch to call it a sport. and what America do you live in? almost everyone i know plays or has played video games...and i'm old.
So, chess isn't a sport...
Tri lane for life.
lost of people say chess is a sport...and ok i guess yer right =[ sports arnt for entertainment we just watch them on tv and buy tickets to go to huge stadiums to watch them play because they arnt for entertainment

sports are entertaining, but not created for the entertainment of others. for the entertainment of the athlete? sure.
look i'm not trying to force a stupid argument for no reason, i just think the term/idea of esports is misguided. sports comes from athletic prowess as i posted originally; gaming/internet gaming has very little to do with athletic ability.

so i just looked to see if chess is considered a sport, here's what answers.com says: Chess today is a recognized sport of the International Olympic Committee. So there you go, chess is a sport; looks like me and the dictionary were wrong.
