I think what IS considered and what SHOULD BE considered carrying are 2 totally different things:
I think what IS considered carrying by most common LoL folk is getting all the kills/dominating everyone, even if everyone else does ****.
I think what SHOULD BE considered carrying is that, but also situations like yours where you ***** assists and help your team without being the actual one doing all the killing.

Carrying just means is when you are the reason for the win. It is when you do what it takes to bring your team through.
If a Master Yi goes 20/0/some random number of assists, but he only did that because he just ran around all game and didn't help at all in teamfights what so ever, and a Janna goes 5/7/32 and saved her team countless times in teamfights, Janna carried more than Yi.

Retreating?! Hell no, we're just attacking the other direction!
Carries are defined as "weak" early game and "strong" late game.
So traditional DotA style carry would be someone like Tryndamere, Caitlyn, or Ashe -- people who need their team to gank (carry the "carry" early-mid game) and then dominate late game ("carry" gets to carry entire team)
Soraka isn't a "carry", traditionally speaking, and is classified under "support"; if you look at it, all roles "carry" another role at one point in the game, just the "carry" role is the end-game carry-all.

But I win games as Soraka. I mean that as in I am the reason we win. Because nobody ever doies, I'm good at silencing AP nukes, every time I see three or more allies at 50% I Wish. Karthus on the other team? I ALWAYS take mid vs Karthus. Always. That's why I was wondering.
I wanna play with you sometime when you are soraka, you seem to know how to play her =]

Mordekaiser can carry his team to victory by taking them all on at once :D

I agree with the point that someone who carries the team is the person responsible for victory. For example, if you're a 0/5 Shaco but backdoored 6 towers over the course of the game and forced the enemy team to split up, letting your team do Baron and win team fights, you carried the game.

So is carrying simply getting a lot of kills and doing a lot of damage? Or is it being the anchor for your team to push, win team fights, etc?
