Well I respect your honesty and agree. A lot of guides here suck, reasons why? Well really hard to explain but it's a combination of inexperience/arrogance/our ability to monitor guides is limited. Though we do try to monitor them. It doesn't help that a lot of guide writers have fans, so when they come up with a guide, even if it is complete ****, they vote for em.
The benefit of Solomid being pros ACTUALLY exist there, so their guides, though very blunt and sometimes lacking anything more than a few paragraphs of explanation, still have more validity, but they also cover the core information as to why they rune/build/mastery the way they do.

I would invite you to join me in a campaign to overhaul the guide system on this website. I don't want to lead the crusade. I'm an unknown to this community, but not for long. I would like to share some ideas that are kind of off the top of my head.
1. remove the percentages from +1/-1'ing a guide. just have upvotes and downvotes. I find, as a newbie looking at the guide, that the percentages next to the guides are confusing.
2. create a true, hard-*** guide mod team of nothing but platinum players at first. These people know how to win. The best way to win, is to build optimally and play optimally. Have people submit applications, along with 10-15 champs that are their mains. Create a guide squad that has all 101 champions covered.
3. Remove all featured guides from being featured, and bump them down to 'hottest'
4. No more "top 5 guides" too much **** is floating up into the top 5.
5. Make your featured section something that people go to when they want to know, hands down balls out, the best way to play a champion. There can be SLIGHT variation. Rod of ages morgana is fine, but abyssal rush is good, and zhonyas rush is OPTIMAL.
5.5 Have each guide for each champion co-written by 2 people, and approved/edited by 2 additional staff members, or written by 1 person, and approved/edited by 4 additional staff members. They can't straight edit, but they can make recommendations and take votes on issues with the guides.
5.75 Each featured guide will have a youtube video of a high elo ranked game where that champ is being played. The rare exceptions will be people like heimerdinger and other tragically underpowered champs. Then, at the top of the guide, will be a disclaimer like, "HEIMERDING IS A VERY FUN, UNIQUE CHAMPION. HIS KIT MAKES HIM VERY STRONG AT SECURING OBJECTIVES AND POKE. HOWEVER, HIS KIT IS VERY UNDERWHELMING, AND HE CAN BE A DETRIMENT TO A TEAM. THAT BEING SAID, YOU SHOULD ONLY PLAY HEIMERDINGER IN RANKED AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU LIKE HEIMERDINGER, YOU MIGHT LIKE ZYRA. SHE IS VERY COMPETITIVE, AND HAS A SIMILAR KIT, ALL WHILE BEING INFINITLY MORE USEFUL THAN HEIMER, PLEASE, ENJOY THE GUIDE"

Hey, let's not make this into a flamewar about what "we" think this site needs. The mods/admins do their best and we need to respect that, their jobs aren't easy. The issue is within the community, our best bet is to adress it however we can.

There truly is no "easy" way for us to accomplish a clean up of the site while maintaining Mobafire's tenant of independence amongst writers in terms of opinion and creativity. THAT is something I too appreciate here even if it does cause issues. It is something I want to protect.
I respect and value your opinions/ideas, but I am not capable of whole heartily jumping into the "crusade". I hope you can understand my position.

Well hey, being a bit more subtle would have been better, but your point in essence is true. Most guides here are **** and we are very well aware of that. We are working on all sorts of things behind the scenes (or more like we give our input and the 4 Admins do the hard work) and tbh I find it pretty meaningless to bash them.
Just let me say this - if your attitude would be about the opposite from what it is now I actually think you can be a valuable asset here.
Also remember that the motto around here is "from the people, for the people". I don't have a solo mid account but I always assumed that their community is **** while their guides are pretty good. Mobafire is currently more like a social meeting place for people of all servers, we organize inhouses that are always fun. But as said, the guide part here could be improved.
Since there is no way we will disallow people to vote or make guides, I guess I can speak on behalf of everyone here that we are always open for suggestions to improve this. We currently have a Scout system that is prone to upgrading, but I think it has potential. But if anyone has other ideas, come at us ^^
