Karma ap carry isnt that strong, but she is a god level support if you use her correctly.

Only problem with that build is that it's for support Karma.
The best build for AP Karma involves Deathcap rushing. Build tanky stuff, mostly up to you. I build Chalice of Harmony for early on and usually sell it later. Frozen Heart sometimes, other times, Rod of Ages/ Abyssal Mask. All preference.
Boots should be Ionian Boots of Lucidity for the CDR. You'll be at 19% from masteries+the boots. 39% with blue buff. You can get blue pot to round it out as well.
She works well against short ranged last-hitters like Morde as she can shield-bomb them for free damage when they go to last hit.
Max either E or Q first. Will of the ancients is a decent item but you shouldn't get it before deathcap. Stick with the Hextech Revolver for a while as it gives ample spell vamp for your needs.
I may or may not make a Karma guide in the future. Depends on how much I'm allowed to play her in soloqueue. :P
If i saw you in soloq id let you play whoever you want howerver you want lol. People should be aware of actual good players around... Magewick is hilarious, btw. cdr shoes, Rush a WoTA and go for a tear, then get ryalis and deathcap, after you get the deathcap finish archangels, then get your defensive item, probs a frozen heart. at lvl 7 your q hits for somewhere between 500-1000 damage and heals half your life in one shot.

Karma being underpowered is what most people think. Also, if I'm playing AP mid, I'm usually playing someone more fun.
Karma capitalizes on your opponents capitalizing.
Scenario: You're at about 200 HP, they're going in for the towerdive at 5-600. You shield-bomb, heal and rope them in to finish the kill. You're now at about 350 HP.
No other AP carry can effectively turn something that "bad" into a winning situation. The reason she does it though, is because at 100 HP or so, he has about 100 AP with only a Doran's ring and standard 21/0/9 setup. People don't understand this and will ping for me to fall back way too early when I can hang around and get a kill. It results in a lot of flaming and why I don't play Karma more often.
She's also heavily restricted by her cooldowns. Especially early on. 30 second CD on her shield-bomb or heal. Her base health is great though and her survivability is amazing compared to most other AP mids.
EDIT: When it comes to traditional AP mids, the only 2 champions who rank above her in level 1 health are Fizz and Kass. She also has the third highest level 18 HP out of most AP mids as well. Fizz and Ziggs surpassing her.
NOTE: this is not including "unusual picks" like Galio or Panth.
How is galio an unusual pick? i see him as a mid counter pick all the time.

I normally lane with someone more tankish then my self when I can and use the shield bomb on them while they are attacking. One that I did this the most with was Blitz the reason being as simple as his come back here style move taking the opponent and places it right with him when I shield bomb Blitz they we easily get quarter of there hp gone and that is level 1. The advantage is the damage the enemy took and right there and the extras defense that blitz has gives us the advantage making them decide should they stay in lane or head back each time cause we just get stronger by the second. I normally get a lot of assist right now and around average of six death per game right now but again I am still trying to learn her that will change when I am more used to her. I also changed my order of items and the item themselves a bit since I started this post mostly from what I read in here and other places.

The reason is that I do not need to take the Blue from other members that could use it in my team like the main carries and still have 39% out of the maximum of 40% for cooldown reduction. Also the Tome gives out a rather decent amount of Ability Power and Mana Regeneration. Tear of the Goddess you need it as fast as possible which is the main reason for being right after the boots of Mobility and potions to keep my self alive early game. I tried Doran's Ring and I find this more survival then the ring for me anyway.

If anyone knows if CD reduction counts towards her ult counters please say something cause if it does not then I would change the order of my built Tome would be after some other things if so but get Kage Lucky pick in its place and make the tome after I get death cap and arch staff.

She does have the cooldowns to charge the tear, but it's a sub-par item for her.
Catalyst is a better item overall. It also builds into the highest mana item in the game, RoA.
You need to be tanky to use your passive. Archangel's staff does not do this.
EDIT: Getting Doran's rings+Philo stone can help your mana problems if you're really having them.
