Ok I'm not quite looking for a mentor, but I figured this would be a good spot to ask a question.

I'm kind of moving from class to class learning to be proficient with one before breezing on to the next, and support is definitely my next one, but I just have issues with support.

It seems almost like a lot of supports are useless late game. Maybe I just blow with them or I'm having bad luck in the solo que with teamates, but when a teamfight happens, it seems the shield and heal routine just doesnt cut it. Either your team is dealing enough damage or it isnt and healing a single person or some health to a number of allies doesnt mean much when hell has opened up.

New to support so pardon my ignorance. Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Well, many supports aren't healers...the only ones that heal are Soraka and Sona and Janna, but they have different functions too...

Soraka: Armor, silence, AMAZING heal (heal your carry, it's like having 2), amazing TEAM heal (once again, use it to keep your team staying in fights, it makes a difference), and ofc mana.

Sona: AoE stun, heal, damage, haste, and her power chords (slow, reduced damage dealt, etc.)

Janna: ****ing annoying disrupter: her Q is great teamfight disrupt CC, for chasing, running, etc...

her shield shields for a LOT and gives AD equal to a free BF Sword...ult your AD carry and you just gave them a temporary free 1650 g in stats...

her passive which gives everyone MS

her slow

and OFC her amazing ult, which can change fights...not only is it a heal, but also a disrupt, and can change positioning to your team's advantage, save people's ***es, etc...

and don't be afraid to die as support, better you than your carry.

as you can see, supports have a LOT to offer and are vital in a solid team comp...they do MUCH more than what you are just seeing on the surface.

so, try some out, and you will see the difference to your team you will be making.

If you think you're not doing great at support, I'd suggest playing Sona. Fun as to play, very easy to grasp, and with enough CDR and mana you can keep your team chasing with Song of Celerity, healed with Aria of Perseverance, buffed with Hymn of Valor, deal damage/slows/reduced healing with Power Chord and keep the enemy team AoE stunned/dancing with Crescendo.

Taric, Karma, Janna, and Sona are generally good, even late game.

Karma is actually the one i've been messing with and I'll be honest I am a game changer sometimes, but more often than not something like this happens.

Team fight happens, carry gets wailed on, carry turns around as I heal and cast that ABSURD shield. By the time they are back in the fray or have abilities to cast again the rest of the team is dead/dying. Then both me and the carry go down.

Idk I suppose I've just had some bad experiences in this department. We'll see how things go as I keep practicing.

I'll check back every once in a while so advice and suggestions are still welcomed.

"Karma is very dependent on your team; if you don't have a good team, there is nothing you can do.

I call Karma being a "passive" support. Her skills focusing on buffing your allies instead of CC'ing your enemies. If you play mmorpgs, think of it as white paladin vs dark paladin. Where as Janna or Sona got offensive CCs, Karma only has a speed modifier. The bottomline is, you can be the best Karma in the world and nail every shield and heal perfectly, but they will be useless if your team can't perform well."

Unless you mantra burst your shield constantly, because that thing can deal 500+ damage with an AP build.

they shouldn't turn around, you should be able to support them while they are still dishing out damage...

i know, but they turn and bail when they see that big red bar start to appear. i mean its not like im waiting until they've actually gotten out to pop abilities.

Just had a much better game where i was def a game changer. I may have been having bad luck

I'm your guy if you play supports( That is literally all I play now a days) I basically know all the ins and outs of Taric,Sona and Soraka.
The first rule as playing a support your there to make your team that much better not for kills( I'm sure you know that) Try and die as less as possible the more time you die the less time you heal and such.
Build is also key to playing support there's a ton of different builds but only a few are true to the support way of things. As for the champs I mentioned above they are all very different non of them get played the same.
