It's definitely done that all along, it's nothing new. Aside from having done it myself countless times, I remember a reddit thread a while ago saying "If Vayne can't AA during Condemn anymore, why can Trist AA during her ult?".

Also, I would add that if you are by yourself in the middle of a lane it reasonably obvious that you have a bomb on you, but in the middle of a team fight it is really hard to tell. ?Why the he** did I just die? Oh right, Trist's new bomb thingee.

Eh, I doubt it. AA'ing after ult was a pretty big part of my
Lich Bane AP Tristana back when I was too bad to use DFG's active. As you can probably imagine, even then I didn't build attack speed on AP Tristana, and I don't ever recall raging at my AA not going off after ult.
