Well, It seems similar to greek mythology in few ways.
Firstly is the idea of the journey. Now while some manga have this aspect in them, ultimately the hero's tend to defend their homeland. In Greek mythology its much more common for the hero to face evils far away from home or conquer distant lands (for example the Odyssey or Hercules trials). This could be equated to gutts who is constantly travelling and seeking out his own distant evil.

2nd is the demons he faces. Throughout the series he faces a lot of monsters with references to many different religions and mythologies, Greek mythology included. Two which come to mind are the god of the sea (which is an obvious nod to the kraken) and the goat monster at the pagan orgy which was the exact depiction of a Satyr (which makes sense since they're associated with drunkenness, debauchery and chaos). There's also mermaids, gorgons, chimeras, manticores and probably more that I cant think of right now.

Thirdly is the art style itself, which is quite bold, placing alot of emphasis on the anatomy of the characters. Each screen of gutts's combat is almost always a show of the sheer force his body can muster. This is somewhat different to the artsyles of naruto, one piece and bleach, which tend to focus moreso on giving the strong impression of movement rather than focusing on the anatomy of their characters.
Ancient cultures Idolised strength above all else, often depicting the hero's figure in great detail, so similarities there. This could just be incidental though.

Tldr: Im a massive nerd :)

Well, I finished watching Ga-Rei Zero.

It was decent. The thing is that the first episode has made a strong impact, therefore I ended up expecting more than it could handle. It kinda fell off in the middle, then came back strong again on the last 2 episodes.

The action was pretty standard, aswell as the art/animation.

Plot was interesting enough, taking into consideration the fact that it's a prequel.

What kinda bothered me is the lack of emotions in certain scenes that were supposed to be full of emotions, and ironically some scenes that were pretty casual but were overwhelmed by unnecessary crying and stuff.

TL,DR: It's not bad, but It's not great nonetheless. It's decent, deserves a watch if you can handle the blood.

There is a boobie scene if that helps :P (Blood and Boobies, Elfen Lied's good ol'times lol)

I'll be watching Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko next.

Yea, I was aware of how many mythological creatures there were in the manga, but they're from all kinds of mythologies, not just greek.
Also, you forgot Kappa, which is from Japanese mythology.

Interesting point. I personally love how anatomically correct the fights are, there's a lot of attention payed to the angles of attack and deflecting attacks is generally done very realistically, along with swinging arcs, weight, speed and force in general.

I don't know where this came from, but enjoy this scene from Bakemonogatari Season 2

Looks like the first two episodes are available (holy ****)

Episode 1: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=download&tid=451051

Episode 2: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=download&tid=452550

Node subs are the best option this time. I will update as I investigate the subtitles more.

But really HOLY **** FINALLY.

I am aware they draw from other mythologies as well, I just wanted to highlight that quite a few of them are Greek in nature.

+ If your gonna bring up 1 monster That I missed you might as well mention them all :P

Yeah, the heavy emphasis on realism really adds to the feeling of "HOLY S***, HE JUST CLEAVED THAT DUDE IN TWO LIKE HE WAS NOTHING!!" xD

Monogatari Series's fanservice is the only fanservice I am willing to accept!

However, I won't watch a single episode from season 2 until it's done airing. I hate waiting a whole week for an episode to come out. So please, no spoilers :) Monogatari Series is one of my favourite anime, I want to watch it under the perfect circumstances :P

Sooo recently I've been reading Arakawa Under the Bridge and Hunter X Hunter.

I gave up on Arakawa Under the Bridge after 25 chapters or so, it was kinda meh. A lot of the humor was just in your face WTF/purple dishwasher monkey humor. There was rarely any clever humor(the 'sister' part was really predictable), but I did have the occasional laugh, so it's not all bad.

I'm probably gonna continue reading Hunter X Hunter for the moment(I'm at chapter 25), but it hasn't impressed me so far. It's pretty solid overall, but the theme feels kinda schizophrenic in how childish it is at times and how dark and bloody it gets at other times. The childish parts are well done in general, the darker parts however where really unimpressive.

If your gonna bring up 1 monster That I missed you might as well mention them all :P

Dragons, Golems, Ogre's, Trolls, Elves/Fairies, Undead, Hellhounds, Succubae, nature spirits, evil tree's, Giant insects(there's probably a few religions with those), angels and satanic overlords.

Well, most of those are kinda generic fantasy things anyways, Kappa are more of a rarity. Not that they don't have very unique looks in Berserk.

Where were the Succubi? Do you mean that member of God Hand? (that's Succubus, singular)
I'm also unsure of where the hellhounds and dragons(that guy at the fortress?) were, but I remember the rest.

Also, you forgot that Cockatrice in the latest chapter :P
(you might now have read it yet tho)

well, I was mentioning everything else in plural, so it seemed fitting.

hellhounds and dragons

The hellhounds were fought after guts was trying to escape that missionary camp and had the priestess with him (essentially her first encounter with monsters) and the dragon was outside the witches den when it was set on fire.

DAMNIT, I JUST KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN!
(actually was shown before in a war scene aswell)

Well, he did refer to himself as a dragon about 3 times, so, yeah.
