That sounds... interesting..
Most mecha stories are kinda fail imo. They're never done very well in my experience.
The best mecha story I've seen so far is in the manga Break Blade, but even then it's not great.

Break blade is more of a shounen manga, it really has nothing to do with evangelion and in my opinion break blade isn't even close to being half as good as NGE. It's like comparing Fairy Tail with FMA.
Also.. if you're saying that most mecha stories are kind fail... does that mean you've never seen code ge***: lelouch of the rebellion either?
I'm just following Naruto and fairy tale right now, but I did finish Dragon ball Z, didn't finish Dragon ball just didn't like :( stopped reading bleach right after they rescued whats her face? and I love watching trigun and cowboy bebop! never did get into Evangelion :(

Well, the reason for the people who don't like Evangelion to do so, is most of the time the MC, Shinji. He's the complete opposite of the archetype-hero, and has to deal with severe psychological issues. I, for one, enjoy seeing an anime with a more realistic attempt at the "14 year old kid tries to save the world" cliché that is so present in anime.
Because in reality, there is not a single 14 year old kid nowadays who would be able to endure the terror of risking his/her life on a regular basis in devastating fights with omnipotent beings, while carrying the burden of half the humanity which died ~20 years prior.
Yup, I like Evangelion. A lot.

El Psy Congroo.

Most people get into evangelion because it has huge mechas.. And then around episode 10 they realise everything and everyone is ****ed up, so they stop liking it or just don't understand it.
I still haven't watched these last 2 dvds. Downloading them right now

rofl, the archetype hero in such settings is like Shujin by the standards nowadays...the only reason i watch Hagure Yuusha no Estetica for example is because the HC isnt like the Stereotype nowadays. But i liked Evangelion.
Break Blade was nice, i rly liked this scene, but never watched the last OVA Part because it was the last while the Manga is still ongoing :/
I cant argument about ToG since im not reading managpirate, but i looked at the RAW as always on Sunday, wondering what the blond-guy and Hwa-Ryun talked bout.
Also last Kubera chapter was such cliche, sure she wanted to die over and over again, and ofc this time she accepts the circumstates -.-

Why would you not read mangapirate and look at the raws instead? The good thing about mangapirate is that they're pretty fast, beats reading raws any day.
And I rarely see the Shinji archetype as a hero.. He's usually the type of people the hero would be saving. Just a normal 14 year old who's afraid of fighting gigantic monsters while feeling severe chronic pain on every mistake and possibly killing thousands as well. And all this while the future of the world is dependent on him not screwing up.

Don't forget that the original Evangelion is about 20 years old. The new movies are much better imo, even though I loved the original Evangelion, especially "The End of Evangelion", the ending movie.
