2011 was pretty ****py for me actually. The only new games I picked up this year were League of Legends, Witcher 2 and Skyrim.
My favorite year was probably sometime back in the day when games were good and JRPG was actually still a genre.

The year that FF6 released was the greatest day for humanity of all kind.

The "best" year of game releases cant be toppled by the last 5-6 ones IMO.
Cant pinpoint one exactly, but those times where games like Gothic/C&C RA came up are still best.
Lately there are only up to 1-2 decent titles which are groundbreaking not only in the promotion.
But thats just up to personal preference.

Perhaps it's because I haven't been a real gamer for more than 2-3 years. I've always played games, but never that much ^^
I really loved the old days with games as Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Croc for Playstation and Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda for Nintendo. That's why I'm really thinking about picking up Rayman Origins for the nostalgia of it.

Has it been in the old school days, where games as Super Mario, Crash Bandicoot etc. ruled, or has it been in the years, where big titles weren't constantly spat out, so no-one are able to play through all the so-called must-have games?
Personally I actually think this year, 2011, has been an insanely good gaming year. Not only because of the many major titles released, but more because it seems like a lot of the developers of these titles don't dissapoint as much as they have tended to do earlier. Since I haven't played all those games, I am mainly basing my knowledge on reviews and what friends and other people have been telling me.
These are some of the games I either have played or really want to play from 2011:
1. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - Might be my all time favourite, less might be dissapointing. That's how high my expectations are. Can't wait for the 10+ hours thrill of following Drake on another adventure. I WANT MY PS3 NAOW!!
2. Batman: Arkham City - The first one was REALLY good with a very engaging combat system and a nice storyline. Now it has gotten bigger and perhaps even better. Can't wait!
3. The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim - I so wanna explore the world in Skyrim, though I'm scared that my playing it on my PS3 might include bugs and freezes, however, if they release a patch fixing the issues, some have had, this game my be on my all-time top 5 list.
4. Rage - I'm a huge fan of games with beautiful landscapes, where you just sit in awe and want to explore more and more. I've heard that the story isn't as good as expected, but I so wanna play this game!
5. Saints Row 3 - Perhaps not a must-have for that many gamers, but I'd love to smack somebody up with a *****, which you apparently can in this game. Mainly for the laughs of it.
6. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - I have ordered this game along with my PS3, can't wait. It seems so different and cool, and I can't wait to experience this awesome looking sci-fi world.
7. FIFA 12 - In my opinion the best FIFA game in the franchise so far. Some people are complaining about the defense system, but I love it, since it is more challenging and engages the player more, when not attacking. Also love the career mode and the virtual pro part. Great sportsgame.
8. Dead Space 2 - I'm buying this when I have played through some of all the games I have higher on the list. I want to see if the developers succeed in creating a horrifying atmosphere and even more to see if they manage to make the main character seem realistic in his traumas.
9. Battlefield 3 - I'm not that huge a fan of online-based FPS games, since I'm more a fan of story-line games or stupid/funny games like Saints Row and Just Cause. x) But I bet that FPS fans are buying new pants after playing this game. This game is in the bundle with my PS3, so I will definately be playing it and see how good it is.
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 - I'm not getting this (Not a FPS fan ^^). However, it is as BF3, still a highly awaited game for tons of people. So I've put it on the list, since COD: MW games often are nominated for game of the year (the first 2 were).
These are 10 of the games, I think might make 2011 a serious contender in the "best gaming year evaaaah" contest. Though 2010 also kicked *** with God of War 3 as my personal favourite, Uncharted 3, Arkham City and all the others probably will make 2011 my personal winner!
