I have tried it on Lee Sin and Jarvan IV, the results were quite surprising.
I rushed Spirit of the Elder Lizard which got me a few early kills, then built into a Spirit of the Ancient Golem. I was quite tanky with really high damage.
The stats on both the items are so cost effective that it out ways the fact that you are effectively wasting gold by stacking the passive damage increase to minions.

In all seriousness though, a mere 4k gold for such good stats is definitely worth even if you are stacking a unique passive. The only "downside" is that Locket/Aegis won't be completed as fast, but those aren't really that much more important.

Mundo goes where he pleases.
And pleases, where he goes.
how can you use effectively and waste in one sentence? ahaha aside from that non sense i think it would work. i think that getting 1 spirit stone on warwick then rushing it into lizard then getting a belt next then into a golem would be great. strong a tough.
+rep if i helped or if you just happen to like repping ^^
