I wasn't set back with the Rylai rush when I was playing cause I got soooo far ahead at that time :S We just ended up extending the game for so long that the enemy team was able to recover because their champions were late-game oriented.
Just played a game with her on solo top. The 
Wit's End rush didn't work out so good at first, but after getting three Doran's Rings with it, kinda made a big difference over their Elise who only had a Rabadon's Deathcap (with no boots BTW). But yeah, Brand AFK'd so we got screwed over.

Wouldn't DFG help out her kit as an assassin? She can't contribute much in a team fight since her only AOE is her human-form W, so why not maybe go glass cannon with a bit of survivability (
Like I said though, just a random thought.
